Variation in Chemical Components of Korean Green Tea (Camellia sinensis L.) Resulted from Developing Stages and Processing Recipe (한국산 녹차의 채엽시기 및 제조법에 따른 화학성분 변이)

  • In this study physicochemical characteristics such as crude lipid, crude protein and total sugar contents have been analyzed with samples taken at different developing stages and growing sites, Bongsan-ri(steam-roasted green tea) and Buchun-ri(roasted green tea) area. Leaf area of new leaf was larger in Buchun-ri(7.23cm$^2$) than in Bongsan-ri(6.93cm$^2$). Variation of leaf area by the developing stages was the largest at between stage II (May 5) and stage III(May 18). Dry matters ratio of tea leaf were 26.3% in Bongsan-ri and 26.6% in Buchun-ri. Water content, ash, water-soluble matters, total sugar content of green tea sampled in Bongsan-ri and Buchun-ri were 5.6, 6.1, 33.1, 4.6 and 6.2, 5.8, 35.2, 2.8%, respectivley. Crude lipid, total nitrogen and water-soluble protein, inorganic matters content of green tea sampled in Bongsan-ri and Buchun-ri were 2.8, 5.1, 1.1, 2.56 and 2.2, 5.7, 1.0, 2.34%, respectively. At the later developing stages crude lipid, total sugar contents were increased, whereas total nitrogen had low content. Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Vitamin A content of green tea produced in Bongsan-ri and Buchun-ri area were 413mg%, 71.8mg%, 32.15IU and 311mg%, 52.3mg%, 25.68IU, respectively. Vitamin C and Vitamin E content were increased toward the later sampling stages. Water-soluble matters and water-soluble protein content of green tea prepared by the steam-roasted method and the roasted method were increased by 0.11, 0.13 and 0.09, 0.08%, respectively, compared to unroasted check. Crude lipid content of green tea prepared by the steam-roasted method and the roasted method were decreased by 0.13 and 0.24%, respectively. Total nitrogen content of green tea prepared by the steam-roasted method and the roasted method was changed 0.019 and 0.036%, respectively and total nitrogen content showed minute different between two methods.

Physicochemical Characteristics of Ethanol Extracts from Each Part of the Pleurotus eryngii (새송이버섯(Pleurotus eryngii) 부위별 추출물의 이화학적 특성)

  • This study has examined the physicochemical properties of the Pleurotus eryngii, including their proximate components, amount mineral content, total dietary fiber, total sugar, reducing sugar and free sugar. Additionally, it measured the P. egii ethanol extracts and the total amounts of polyphenol compounds as well as its electron donating ability (EDA) of the substance fraction (SF). The P. eryngii powder's moisture content was 9.0% and each of the other element content such as carbohydrate, crude protein, crude ash and crude fat was found to be 63.06%, 20.70%, 5.20% and 2.0% respectively. Potassium (K) was shown to be the greatest inorganic content and manganese (Mn) was the lowest. Furthermore fructose, galactose, glucose lactose and maltose free sugar content was found in this order. 387 mg% of the total amounts of polyphenol was found in the P. eryngii whole body ethanol extract, 158 mg% in the stipe extract, 593 mg% in the pileus extract and 607 mg% in the substance fraction (SF). Electron donating ability (EDA) was highest at 91.12% in the whole body extract and lowest at 62.90% in the stipe extract. Additionally, the EDA for substance fraction (SF) 0.02%-0.1% was found to be 57.78-77.33%, which was lower than the 0.02%-tocopherol (93.92%) and BHT (96.72%). From these results, it can be assumed that P. eryngii offers superior antioxidative effects with its high content of fiber, inorganic materials and total amounts of polyphenol as well as high electron donating ability (EDA), thereby making it ideal for use in functional foods and industrial materials.

Development of Light-weight Fire Protection Materials Using Fly Ash and Light-weight Aggregate (플라이애시 및 경량골재를 활용한 경량 내화성 마감재료 개발)

  • The serious issue of tall building is to ensure the fire resistance of high strength concrete. Therefore, Solving methods are required to control the explosive spalling. The fire resistant finishing method is installed by applying a fire resistant material as a light-weight material to structural steel and concrete surface. This method can reduce the temperature increase of the reinforcement embedded in structural steel and concrete at high temperature due to the installation thickness control. This study is interested in identifying the effectiveness of light-weight fire protection material compounds including the inorganic admixture such as fly ash, meta-kaolin and light-weight aggregate as the fire resistant finishing materials through the analysis of fire resistance and components properties at high temperature. Also, this paper is concerned with change in microstructure and dehydration of the light-weight fire protection materials at high temperatures. The testing methods of fire protection materials in high temperature properties are make use of SEM and XRD. The study results show that the light-weight fire resistant finishing material composed of fly ash, meta-kaolin and light-weight aggregate has the thermal stability of the slight decrease of compressive strength at high temperature. These thermal stability is caused by the ceramic binding capacity induced by alkali activation reaction by the reason of the thermal analysis result not showing the decomposition of calcium hydrate. Developed light-weight fire protection materials showed good stability in high Temperatures. Thus, the results indicate that it is possible to fireproof panels, fire protection of materials.

Physicochemical Properties of Organic Liquid Fertilizer with Oil Cake and Rice Bran as Affected by Microorganism and the Ratio of Molasses

  • The study was conducted to investigate changes in the characteristics of inorganic components during fermenting process of organic liquid fertilizers according to the type and ratio of microorganism and the amount of molasses when producing organic liquid fertilizers using sesame oil cake and rice bran. To select appropriate microorganisms, liquid fertilizers were produced through a 90-day fermentation process by adding mag-ggeo-li, yogurt, dried yeast, and leaf mold. The pH in liquid fertilizer was decreased, and then increased in all microorganism samples except the mag-ggeo-li sample. The EC was rapidly increased in all samples until the $10^{th}$ days after production, and showed no changes after the $60^{th}$ days in dried yeast and after the $30^{th}$ days in the other samples. The concentration of $NH_4$-N was generally increased with time. The concentration of $P_2O_5$ was rapidly increased until the $10^{th}$ days after production and was maintained at about 1% regardless of the type of microorganism. In terms of the characteristics of liquid fertilizers according to the ratio of selected dried yeast, the pH was decreased until the $30^{th}$ days after producing the liquid fertilizers, and then was increased regardless of the ratio of dried yeast. The EC was increased with time and showed no differences depending on the amount of dried yeast. The concentration of $NH_4$-N was increased with time and in proportion to the amount of dried yeast. In terms of the characteristics of liquid fertilizers according to the ratio of molasses, the pH was decreased with increasing the molasses. The EC and concentration of $P_2O_5$ were no differences according to the amount of molasses. When 3% molasses was added, the content of $NH_4$-N was 2.6 mg $L^{-1}$ at the beginning and was at 3,025 mg $L^{-1}$ on the $90^{th}$ days.

Effect of dietary supplement with fermentation feed on the physicochemical properties of pork (발효 사료 첨가가 돼지고기의 이화학적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The results on the chemical characteristics of the pork fed with fermented feeds are summarized as follows; 1) The pork treated with fermented feeds had lower fat and higher protein content than control pork in proximate compositions. It is considered to be the improvement of the quality. 2) It was not recognized to the difference of oxidation level among the sample porks. 3) Oleic acid was the highest concentration in the components of fatty acid of pork. The rate of the saturated and unsaturated fatty acids is 38.8 % : 59.9 % in the ordinary meat, 40.8 % : 57.8 % in the a high-grade meat, and 36.3 % : 62.0 % in the pork treated with fermented feeds. In addition, the essential fatty acid content of them is 14 %, 11.2 %, and 16.7%, respectively. 4) Glutamic acid was the highest composition in total amino acids and the essential amino acid content was 39% in both an ordinary meat and the pork treated with fermented feeds, and 14 % in high-grade meat. 5) It was no difference in the inorganic content among the samples. The water holding capacity by extraction meat juice was higher to 92 % in the pork treated with fermented feeds and 15.6 % in a loss in quantity by heating than others. Thus, the pork bred with fermented feeds was evaluated to be good in terms of processing and cooking.

Atmospheric Aerosol Optical Properties in the Korean Peninsula

  • The radiative properties of atmospheric aerosol are determined by the mass and chemical characteristics, and optical properties such as aerosol optical depth (AOD), ngstr m parameter ( $\alpha$) and single scattering albedo (SSA). In particular these aerosol optical properties also determine surface temperature perturbation that may give some information in understanding the regional atmospheric radiative forcing. For understanding the radiative forcing and regional surce of aerosol, this paper summarizes and compares the aerosol optical properties results from and compares the atmospheric aerosol optical properties results from two different experiments: Anmyeon 2000 and Jeju 2001. Korea Global Atmosphere Watch Observatory (KGAWO) at Anmyeon island and ACE-Asia super-site at Gosan Jeju island have measured the radiations and aerosols since the year of 2000. The sites are located in the mid-west and south of Korea peninsula where it is strongly affected by the Asian dust coming from China region in every spring. Aerosol optical properties over both sites were measured through the ground-based sun and sky radiometers were analyzed for understanding the radiation and climate properties. Number concentration and chemical components of aerosol were additionally analyzed for the source estimation in the transportation. The frequency distributions of aerosol optical depth are rather narrow with a modal vaiue of 0.38 at both sites. However, the distributions of show one peak (1.13) at Jeju but two peaks (0.63 and 1.13) at Anmyeon. In the cases of Anmyeon, one peak around 0.63 corresponds to relatively dust-free cases, and the second peak around 1.13 characterizes the situation when Asian dust is presented. The correlation between AOD and resulted high correlation on the wide range with high values of optical depth at Anmyeon, otherwise a narrow range of with moderate to low AOD at Jeju. In dust free condition SSA decrease with waveleneth while in the presence of Asian dust SSA either stays neutral or increases slightly with wavelength. The change of surface temperature shows the stronger positive correlations with aerosol optical depth increase at Anmyeon than Jeju. In the chemical properties the aerosol are related to high concentrations in inorganic matters, SO$^4$, NO$_3$, CA2+ in fine and coarse.

  • The effect of shading on mineral elements, free amino acids, and fatty acids content of tea shoot was examined under different shading periods. The results are summarized as follows. The con­tent of $NH_4^+$, $K^+$. $Mg^{++}$, $PO_4^{--}, was increased, but that of $Na^+$, $Ca^{++}$, $F^-$, $Cl^-$, $No_3^-$, $So_4^{--}$ was de­creased with the passage of shade treatment periods. The content of Total- Nitrogen of tea shoot was the highest in the 55% 10days+95% 5days shading as 6.07%. The content to Total Free Amino Acid was hagher ranged from 20mg/100g to 80mg/100g in shading treatment compered with the un shading treat­ment. The content of Theanine was the highest in 55% 10days+95% 5days shading as 1834mg/100g,while that of unshading was the lowest as 1247mg/100g. The content of Theanine was decreased with the passage of shading periods. The content of Fatty Acid was the highest in the 55% 15days+95% 15days shading as 3164mg/100g, while the unshading treatment had the lowest in the 55% 5days+95% 5days as 2435mg/100g.

A Study on the Sorption Characteristics of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydro-carbons(PAHs) and Cadmium by Organoclays (유기점토에 의한 다환방향족 탄화수소와 카드뮴의 흡착특성 연구)

  • The fate and behavior of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) and heavy metals in the environment are mainly controlled by their interactions with various components of soils and sediments. Due to their large surface area and abundance in many soils, smectites may greatly influence the fate and transport of the contaminants. In our experiment, PAH sorption by hexadecyltimethylammonium(HDTMA)-modified smectite linearly increased in proportion to the amount of HDTMA added on the clay. However, trimethylammonium(TMA)-modified smectite did not show superiority in its sorption of PAH compared with the HDTMA-smectite or dodecyltrimethylammonium(DTMA)- smectite. Meanwhile, the smectites modified with the same cationic surfactants adsorbed Cd$^{2+}$(heavy metal) significantly from water at low surfactant loading level, but the Cd$^{2+}$ adsorption linearly decreased as the loading of surfactant increased. The result shows that the sorption tendency of organoclays for organic or inorganic contaminants was significantly influenced by the amount and size of the surfactants added on the clay. This reveals that the stabilization and configuration of cationic surfactant formed on the clay interlayer of different sizes may be an important factor in controlling the sorptive capacity of each pollutant in the environment.

The Effect of Cd and Zn Elements Applied to Soil on the Growth and their Uptake of Corn Plant (토양중(土壤中) 중금속(重金屬)(Cd, Zn)의 처리(處理)가 옥수수의 생육(生育) 및 흡수(吸收)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • A pot experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of Cd and Zn added to soil on the growth, peroxidase activity, chlorophyll content, inorganic components, and interaction between Cd and Zn in corn plant. The results obtained are as follows. Both Cd and Zn reduced dry weight and height of corn plant. Peroxidase activity of leaves increased in higher Cd content of shoot but adverse trend was shown with increasing Zn content of shoots. Chlorophyll contents were significantly decreased with increase of both Cd and Zn content of shoots. Higher soil Cd levels increased N content but decreased P, K, Ca, Mg and $SiO_2$ content in plant. Wherease higher Zn levels in soil increased P and $SiO_2$ content but decreased N, Ca, Mg content in plant. The total Cd and Zn uptake of shoot increased with time but the Cd and Zn content of shoot showed no tendency. Cadmium uptake by Zn application was reduced in higher Zn levels with time while Zn uptake by Cd application showed adverse trend.

Polyamine Biosynthesis in Red Pepper and Chinese Cabbage by the Application of Liquid Pig Manure (돈분뇨 액비시용에 의한 고추 및 배추의 polyamine 생합성)

  • To investigate the availability of nitrogen decomposed and released from liquid pig manure (LPM), this experiment was performed with red pepper (Capsicum annuum L., cv. Hanbando), and Chinese cabbage (Brassioa campestris L., cv. Konaenggiyeureumbaechoo) in 2001. Based on the total nitrogen of chemical fertilizer, both red pepper and chinese cabbage were treated with three and four applications of LPM, respectively. Yield of red fruits in the red pepper was increased by an enhancement of LPM application. However, that of chinese cabbage was enhanced with a reducing supply of LPM. Biosynthesis of polyamine in both crops such as red pepper and chinese cabbage was large in the early growth stage and was not increased by LPM application. The high biosynthesis of bound polyamine, monoamine and diamine, in the early growth stage was changed in an increase of conjugated polyamine and polyamine with a process of crop growth. Inorganic components in the leaf of red pepper by LPM application were equal or slightly lower than in chemical fertilizer, however, from the middle growth stage, contents of phosphate and potassium were increased. Those of chinese cabbage were slightly decreased from the early growth stage to the late. Considering this experiment, the thoughtless supply of LPM has not resulted in certain crop damages, and an application of LPM to increase a yield was different from crop species at some extent.
