Demand for developing artificial green pearl that meets the needs of modern people has been increasing. In this paper, eco-friendly inorganic pearlescent pigment was used instead of organic pigment and urethane resin was substituted for nitrocellulose which has been used as main materials in previous preparation method, increasing gloss from 73.4% to 86.7%. Urethane was coated on substrate before finishing with CVD, resulting high gloss of 96%. Colorimeteric analysis shows that a* and b* of CIE value was changed from +37.7 and +24.5 to +31.9 and +14.2 respectively because of CVD finishing, obtaining colorful, high gloss and durable artificial pearl. Quality and toxicity of samples was established by chemical resistance, glossiness, colorimeter, surface roughness, wear resistance, content of heavy-metal, and salt water test.

Spiropyran-doped organic-inorganic hybrid coatings were prepared starting from glycidoxypropyl triethoxysilane and vinyltriethoxysilane by a sol-gel method. They were applied as a thin layer to polycarbonate sheets and their photochromic properties were investigated. The effect of polarity of solvents dissolving the spiropyran was investigated on the photochromic properties. The decoloration rate of the spiropyran decreased with increasing the polarity of solvents dissolving the spiropyran because the open form of the spiropyran was easily stabilized in the polar gel matrix.

Ceramic membrane consisting of an ${\alpha}-Al_{2}O_{3}$ support and Fe doped $TiO_{2}$ top layer was prepared by the sol-gel method. The supported Fe doped $TiO_{2}$ top layer was made by dip coating the support in a mixed sol. The microstructure of the composite membranes was studied by SEM after calcination at $550~850^{\circ}C$. After sintering at $650^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr., the average particle diameter of the Fe doped $TiO_{2}$ top layer was ~40 nm. The supported Fe doped $TiO_{2}$ composite membranes exhibited much higher heat resistance than the $TiO_{2}$ membrane. The Fe doped $TiO_{2}$ composite membrane retained a crack-free microstructure and narrow particle size distribution even after calcination up to $650^{\circ}C$.

Paper sludges collected from three different paper mills were physico-chemically analyzed in order to use them as raw materials for making bed soils and seedling pots. The sludge from a fine paper mill contained lots of inorganic pigment particles used for coating, as those from a newsprint mill and a tissue mill had not. It was clearly through XRD analysis confirmed that all sludges included calcium carbonate. The paper sludge from the tissue mill contained the greatest amount of particles, which would contribute to water absorption and nutrient storage. The sludge from the fine paper mill had the highest density due to many inorganic elements. While the ash content and the total nitrogen content were the highest in the sludge from the fine paper mill, the C/N ratio was the lowest in the fine paper mill sludge. All sludges seemed to have insufficient contents of potassium. The sludges from the newsprint mill and the tissue mill showed more silicon contents than that from the fine paper mill. It was concluded that the sludge from the fine paper mill would be able to be the most efficient raw materials for making bed soils and seedling pots and the other two sludges would be more efficient for intensive culture for crops such as rice and grain with additional supplement of nitrogen and other nutrients.
Chitin and its derivatives have been introduced to tomato seedlings by direct mixing of chitin, chitosan, or chitooligosaccharides (CO) with soils, watering of chitosan or CO solutions to soils, or chitosan-coating of tomato seeds as a biomodulator of plant growth, and the growth of tomato plants was measured 30- and 45-day after seeding in the pots. The treatment of chitin and its derivatives promoted the growth of tomato plants in plant heights, shoot weight, maximum leaf length and number of leaves. By comparison in the contents of cellular inorganic nutrients in the plants, it was found out that chitin or chitosan treatments accelerated nitrogen and potassium uptake but inhibit calcium uptake, suggesting that chitin and its derivatives modulate absorption of inorganic nutrients through plant roots from environment.

Laccase enzymes from Cerrena unicolor and Trametes versicolor were immobilized on the activated glass beads (CPG), silica gel (SG) and soil (SL). The heterogeneous matrices were activated by ${\gamma}$-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) and glutaraldehyde (GA), and their surfaces were coated by keratin (KER) on activated or non-activated CPG, SG and SL. The laccase activities were tested in the aqueous solution for the native and immobilized preparations using different pH and temperature conditions. By keratin coating on supports, in the cases of CPG-KER and SL-KER, the immobilization yield was increased from about 80% to 90%. Moreover, much less protein was immobilized in keratin coated matrices than in inorganic ones alone (e.g. on CPG-KER 57.6%, whereas on CPG alone 80.6%). Laccase immobilization on keratin coated inorganic matrices was generally more effective than that of non-coated matrices. Concerned to pH dependency, the optima pH for immobilized laccases generally shifted towards to higher values, 5.5-5.8 and even 5.9 in the case of keratin for C. unicolor and from 5.3 to 5.7 for T. versicolor, respectively, and decreased less gradually both in acidic and alkaline regions. The immobilized laccase was more stable against thermal denaturation. This seems particularly true at $75^{\circ}C$ in the case of C. unicolor, where the activity of immobilized enzyme is > 50% higher than that of the free enzyme. For T. versicolor the respective values were $65^{\circ}C$, and 50%.

The constituents of deposits on paper machine and holes/spots in paper have been studied by consequently a combination of analytical techniques, such as FTIR, Py-GC-MS, and. EDS. FTIR spectroscopy was used prior to Py-GC-MS and EDS analysis, as preliminary analysis technique. The analysis of organic components were carried out with the use of a pyrolysis unit connected to a GC-MS, and inorganic components in ash were analysed by SEM equipped with an EDS analyzer after pyrolysis at 59$0^{\circ}C$. The deposits on the dryer section were complex pitch, which was the mixture of the organic contents of fatty acid ester and starch, and the inorganic contents of talc, clay, and calcium carbonate. The complex pitch was estimated to come from the coated broke. We knew the deposits on the metering rod of sym-sizer were associated with the interaction of unstable AKD and CaCO$_3$. The compositions of holes or spots varied considerably and were associated with chemical interaction within the system. The holes, spots, and blotches in the finished paper were PE and PP that were streamed out from pulp sources, complex pitch that were caused by the interaction of the different additives in the system, polymer such as flexible PVC that used for the prop of palette, and hot melt as adhesives that came from the inadequate handling of broke. In addition, we identified that poly(caprolactam) which is used for forming fabrics or press felts, could be mixed with the raw materials by accident and results in streak on coating.
Inorganic-organic composite thin-film-transistors (TFTs) of ZnO nanowire/Poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) were investigated by changing the nanowire densities inside the composites. Crystalline ZnO nanowires were synthesized via an aqueous solution method at a low temperature, and the nanowire densities inside the composites were controlled by changing the ultrasonifiaction time. The channel layers were prepared with composites by spin-coating at 2000 rpm, which was followed by annealing in a vacuum at $100^{\circ}C$ for 10 hours. Au/inorganic-organic composite layer/$SiO_2$ structures were fabricated and the mobility, $I_{on}/I_{off}$ ratio, and threshold voltage were then measured to analyze the electrical characteristics of the channel layer. Compared with a P3HT TFT, the electrical properties of TFT were found to be improved after increasing the nanowire density inside the composites. The mobility of the P3HT TFT was approximately $10^{-4}cm^2/V{\cdot}s$. However, the mobility of the ZnO nanowire/P3HT composite TFT was increased by two orders compared to that of the P3HT TFT. In terms of the $I_{on}/I_{off}$ ratio, the composite device showed a two-fold increase compared to that of the P3HT TFT.

In this study, water glass was applied as a coating material to a rigid polyurethane foam to improve the flame-retardant properties of the foam. The heat release rate of the cone calorimeter of the urethane foam, in which the inorganic water-glass coating layer was applied, decreased rapidly. The water glass coated on the polyurethane surface formed a glassy foam by foaming with water, which did not escape during the vitrification reaction when the foam or glass was heated. The glassy foam formed on the polyurethane foam became a fire-resistant insulation layer that inhibited the combustion of the polyurethane foam for more than 10 min. Water glass was found to improve the flame-retardant properties of the rigid polyurethane foam.

Optical amplificator have been used to compensate the losses in the optical signal transmission and processing. Today, there has been increasing demand for the very low cost optical amplifier. Sol-gel offers considerable potential both low cost manufacture, and for great flexibility in materials composition and structure. In addition, the sol-gel process is a very attractive method for producing porous materials with controlled structure. In this work, we present the potoluminescence properties of Er doped A1$_2$O$_3$/SiO$_2$ films. Erbium doped alumina nano sol was prepared by Al(NO$_3$)$_3$.9$H_2O$ and Er(NO$_3$)$_3$.5$H_2O$ through hydrolysis and peptization, and then GPS (3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane) was added into Er doped alumina nano sol for organic- inorganic hybridization. Er doped A1$_2$O$_3$/SiO$_2$ film was obtained by spin coating, dip coating and thermal treatment from 30$0^{\circ}C$~120$0^{\circ}C$, and there were crack-free after thermal treatment. The thickness of film was measured SEM, and the porosity of film was characterized by BET and TGA. The crystal phase of Er doped A1$_2$O$_3$/SiO$_2$ were determined by XRD. Finally, the photoluminescence properties of Er doped A1$_2$O$_3$/SiO$_2$ films will be discuss with the consideration of porosity and crystallity.
