  • Recently, there has been growing interest in the oxyfuel combustion cycle since it enables high-purity CO2 capture with high efficiency. However, the oxyfuel combustion cycle has some important issues regarding to its performance such as the requirement of water recirculation to decrease a turbine inlet temperature and proper combustion pressure to enhance cycle efficiency. The purpose of the present study is to analyze performance characteristics of the oxyfuel combustion cycle with different turbine inlet temperatures and combustion pressures. It is expected that the turbine inlet temperature improves cycle efficiency, on the other hand, the combustion pressure has specific value to display highest cycle efficiency.

Experimental Study on the Performance of Refrigeration System with an Ejector

  • Experimental investigation on the performance of dual-evaporator refrigeration system with an ejector has been carried out. In this study, a hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerant R134a is chosen as a working fluid. The condenser and two-evaporators are made as concentric double pipes with counter-flow type heat exchangers. Experiments were peformed by changing the inlet and outlet temperatures of secondary fluids entering condenser, high-pressure evaporator and low-pressure evaporator at test conditions keeping a constant compressor speed. When the external conditions (inlet temperatures of secondary fluid entering condenser and one of the evaporators) are fixed, results show that coefficient of performance (COP) increases as the inlet temperature of the other evaporator rises. It is also shown that the COP decreases as the mass flow rate ratio of suction fluid to motive fluid increases. The COP of dual-evapo-rator refrigeration system with an ejector is superior to that of a single-evaporator vapor compression system by 3 to 6%.

원추 환형링이 촉매변환기내의 유동분포에 미치는 영향 (An Effect of Cone Type Circular Ring on the Flow Distribution in Catalytic Converter)

  • An experimental investigation has been performed on the steady flow in exhaust system. When individual flow coming from exhaust manifold entered UCC, the inlet conditions at entry to the diffuser in UCC were affected by the upstream pipe and manifold works. But those effects of the inlet condition on flow through monolith are negligible because the flows are concentrated on the center of monolith regardless of inlet flow distribution. To improve the flow distribution, we installed the cone type circular ring in diffuser of UCC. This led to increasement of flow uniformity, but there was minor increment of pressure drop.

  • In this study, one-way fluid structure interaction analysis(FSI) on wind turbine blade was performed. Both a quantitative fluid analysis on 3-bladed wind turbine and a structural analysis using the surface pressure data resulting from fluid analysis were carried out. Streamlines and angle of attack was easily acquired from analysis results, we showed the inlet velocity that the stall begins to occur. In the structural analysis, structural displacement and maximum stress of the two comparative models was calculated. The location that has maximum stress was found. The pressure difference between back and front part of the blade increases as the inlet velocity increase. The torque and maximum with regard to inlet velocity was also presented.

Comparing geometric parameters of a hydrodynamic cavitation process treating pesticide effluent

  • Paper focuses on comparison between two different orifice plate configurations (plate number 1 and plate number 2) used as cavitating device in the hydrodynamic cavitation reactor for improving pollutant removal efficiencies. Effect of four different parameters such as hydraulic characteristics (in terms of range of flow rates, orifice velocities, cavitation number at different inlet pressures); cavitation number (in range of 5.76-0.35 for plate number 1 and 1.20-0.35 for plate number 2); inlet pressure (2-8 bars) and reaction time (0 to 60 min) in terms of chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal and chlorpyrifos degradation has been studied and compared. Optimum inlet pressure of 5 bars exists for degradation of pollutants for both the plates. It is found that geometry of orifice plate plays important role in removal efficiencies of pollutant. Results obtained confirmed that orifice plate 1 with configuration of 1.5 mm 17 holes; cavitational number of 1.54 performed better with around 60% COD and 98% chlorpyrifos removal as compared to orifice plate 2 having configuration of 2 mm single hole; cavitational number of 0.53 with 40% COD and 96% chlorpyrifos in 2 h duration time.

  • The analysis shows that the variation of maximum pressure of the cycle, rate of hear release, rate of mass burned, and combustion delay are influenced by the inlet air humidity in the spark-ignition engine. The quantitative combustion delay can be obtained from the rate of mass burned. Also, the variation of time loss and effective compression ratio with the change of inlet air humidity are dominated by the development of rate of heat release.

  • In this paper are presented a concept of a new supersonic air inlet, which is designated a Multi-Row Disk (MRD) inlet, aiming at performance improvement under off-design conditions, and results of wind tunnel tests examined performance characteristics of the MRD inlet. The MRD inlet is frequently called ‘a skeleton inlet’ because of its appearance. The performance of a conventional axisymmetric inlet with a solid center body (spike) deteriorates under off-design Mach number conditions. It is due to the fact that total pressure recovery (TPR) governed by the throat area of inlet and mass capture ratio (MCR) governed by an incidence position of an oblique shock from the spike tip into the cowl can not be controlled independently in such air inlet. The MRD inlet has the spike that is composed of a tip cone and several disks arranged downstream of it, based on the experimental fact that several deep cavities on a conical surface have little negative effect on the boundary layer growth. The overall spike length of the MRD inlet is adjustable to the given flight speed by changing space between disks so that a spillage flow can be controlled independently from controlling the throat area. It could be made clear from the result of wind tunnel tests that the MRD inlet improves TPR by 10% compared with a conventional inlet with a solid spike under off-design conditions.

  • 본 논문에서는 매니폴드 내의 튜브 라운드 적용에 따른 고온 고압 튜브형 열교환기에서의 압력강하와 열성능을 분석하기위해 전산해석을 수행하였다. 튜브형 열교환기에서의 압력강하와 열성능은 튜브라운드의 위치에 많은 영향을 받는다. 튜브 라운드에 따른 연구는 튜브 입구, 튜브 출구, 그리고 튜브 양쪽 세 가지 위치에 따라 수행하였다. 본 연구에서, 튜브 양쪽에 라운드를 적용한 경우에는 가장 낮은 압력강하와 감소된 열전달을 보였지만 튜브 출구에 라운드를 적용한 경우에는 압력강하와 열전달 모두 기본형상에 비하여 좋은 특성을 보였다.

Numerical study of fluid behavior on protruding shapes within the inlet part of pressurized membrane module using computational fluid dynamics

  • This study analyzes the velocity and pressure incurred by protruding shapes installed within the inlet part of a pressurized membrane module during operation to determine the fluid flow distribution. In this paper, to find the flow distribution within a module, it investigates the velocity and pressure values at cross-sectional and outlet planes, and 9 sections classified on outlet plane using computational fluid dynamics. From the Reynolds number (Re), the fluid flow was estimated to be turbulent when the Re exceeded 4,000. In the vertical cross-sectional plane, shape 4 and 6 (round-type protrusion) showed the relatively high velocity of 0.535 m/s and 0.558 m/s, respectively, indicating a uniform flow distribution. From the velocity and pressure at the outlet, shape 4 also displayed a relatively uniform fluid velocity and pressure, indicating that fluid from the inlet rapidly and uniformly reached the outlet, however, from detailed data of velocity, pressure and flowrate obtained from 9 sections at the outlet, shape 6 revealed the low standard deviations for each section. Therefore, shape 6 was deemed to induce the ideal flow, since it maintained a uniform pressure, velocity and flowrate distribution.

이산화탄소의 초임계 가스냉각 과정의 열전달 및 압력강하 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Studies on Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop Characteristics during Gas Cooling Process of Carbon Dioxide in the Supercritical Region)

  • This paper presents the experimental data for the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics obtained during the gas cooling process of carbon dioxide in a horizontal tube. The tube in which carbon dioxide flows is made of copper with an inner diameter of 7.73 mm. Experiments were conducted for various mass fluxes and inlet pressures of carbon dioxide. Mass fluxes are controlled at 225, 337 and 450 kg/$m^2$s and inlet pressures are adjust-ed from 7.5 to 8.8 ㎫. The experimental results in this study are compared with the existing correlations for the supercritical heat transfer coefficient, which generally under-predict the measured data. Pressure drop data agree very well with those calculated by the Blasius' equation. Based on the experimental data, a new empirical correlation to estimate the near-critical heat transfer coefficients has been developed.
