  • The main target of this research is investigating the relations between mechanical properties and injection conditions, like injection pressure, packing pressure and packing time for various contents ratio of glass fiber and resin. In general idea, high injection pressure produces high strength of molded parts as a monotonic function. but it was revealed that high pressure does not make high strength directly through various experiments of injection molding. In this experiments, PA66 was selected as resin and Glass Fiber was selected as reinforcing fiber Fiber reinforcement was controlled, as 14%, 25%, 33%, 44% of total volume and packing pressure was divided 55%, 65%, 75%, 85% of reference pressure, i.e. 100% equal to 1400kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. Finally, tensile testing was executed for injected test specimen. Optimum results based on authors' experiments have been obtained under conditions of 25% and 33% of glass fiber contents. Tensile strength rather depends on the packing pressure and packing time than injection pressure. Especially almost equal value of tensile strength was obtained for various percentage of packing and injection pressure as 65%, 75% and 85% of reference pressure.

  • The quality of product depends on a lots of injection molding conditions at each operation stage and mainly was effected by pressure and temperature. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between the product quality and the distribution of pressure in a cavity with operation condition change. Specimen having some ribs was designed and the mold was prepared and temperature and pressure sensors were installed in the mold. PP was used and pressure distribution was measured with operation condition change. The relationship between the sink mark and the pressure in a cavity was investigated by measurement of the level of sink mark. The level of sink mark was decreased at the cross of plane and rib by increasing of pressure in a cavity, so the pressure should be controlled properly in order to get the required quality.

  • The major parts of a vacuum cleaner are molded. The vacuum cleaner works in multi-load conditions. Therefore, the designer needs to optimize the structure and injection molding conditions simultaneously. Here, the main factor of design is the rib shape and thickness. The greater the rib thickness, the greater the stiffness of the structure. However, it causes an increase in weight. On the other hand, the lower the rib thickness, the greater the increase in the injection pressure. However, the weight will be reduced. Therefore, the designer needs to optimize the rib shape and thickness for structure stiffness and injection molding. In order to solve this problem, we propose an optimization method using D.O.E and a response surface model, which is a multi-objective optimization method using the multi-objective genetic algorithm.

  • Precision injection molding is an important technology for improving productivity and lowering costs in the fields of medical components, lenses and electrical connectors. The quality of injection molded parts is affected by various processing conditions such as filling time and packing pressure profile. It is difficult to consider all the variables at the same time for prediction of the quality. In this study, the genetic algorithm was used to obtain the optimal processing conditions for minimizing the volumetric shrinkage of molded parts. For a higher convergence rate, the method of design of experiments was used to analyze the relationship between processing conditions and volumetric shrinkage of molded parts, which served as analysis tool for the capability of searching optimal processing conditions but also greatly reduces the calculation time by utilizing the information of searching area. As a practical example, compact disks that require micron-level precision were chosen for the study.

  • A computer code was developed to simulate the filling stage of an injection/compression molding process using a finite element method. The constitutive equation was the compressible Leonov model and the PVT relationship was assumed to follow the Tait equation. The flow-induced birefringence was related to the calculated flow stresses through the linear stress-optical law. Simulations of a disk under different processing conditions, including variations of the compression stroke and compression speed, were performed to determine their effects on the flow-induced birefringence. Simulated pressure traces were also compared to those obtained in conventional injection molding and with experimental data from the literature.

  • A vertebral cage is a hollow medical device which is used in spine forgery. By implanting the cage into the spine column, it is possible to restore disc and relieve pressure on the nerve roots. Most cages have been made of titanium alloys but they detract the biocompatibility. Currently PEEK (polyether ether ketone) if applied to various implants because it has good properties like heat resistance, chemical resistance, strength, and especially biocompatibility. A new shape of vertebral cage is designed and injection molding of PEEK is considered for production. Before injection molding of the cage, it is needed to evaluate process conditions and properties of the final product. Variables affecting the shrinkage of the cage are considered, e.g., injection time, packing pressure, mold temperature, and melt temperature. By using the numerical simula-tion program, MOLDFLOW, several cases are studied. Data files obtained by MOLDFLOW analysis are used for stress anal-ysis with ABAQUS, and shrinkage and residual stress fields are predicted. With these results, optimum process conditions are determined.

  • Injection molding is a method for manufacturing many products, wherein a plasticized resin is injected into a mold at high pressure and hardened. According to the method, the product can be manufactured into various forms, and the mass production of up to tens of thousands of products is possible. The purpose of this study was to determine the process conditions for manufacturing a door latch for automobiles, through an analysis of the injection molding method. To calculate an appropriate injection flow for injection molding, a primary analysis for comparing the injection time, pressure, flow pattern, consolidation range, shear stress, shear rate, and weld line, as well as a secondary analysis for determining the conditions for stabilizing the molding temperature, holding pressure, and cooling process, were conducted. The characteristics of injection molding, and their influence on the product quality are discussed. No weld line and pores were observed on the products that had been manufactured based on the process conditions determined above. In addition, there were no flaws regarding the deformation compared to the prototype. Therefore, the manufacture of a product under the conditions determined in this study can reduce the defect rate compared to the existing production, and the process is also more competitive due to reduced production time.

The contributing factors for the final cycle time could be enumerated as follows; the thickness of hot spot, main nominal part thickness, coolant inlet temperature, melt temperature and cooling line layout, etc.. As a first step, all the critical factors of design process applied to the current monitor housing were investigated through 6 sigma process. Thereafter, the optimal and better critical factors found in the first step were applied to new product design to prove that our process was correct. The Moldflow was used for injection molding simulation, and Minitab software for the statistical analysis, respectively. Finally, the productivity of new design was increased about 33 percents for our specific case.

  • In injection molding, many kinds of defects have occurred because of a characteristic of plastics injection molding. Weld line is one of the defects is formed when separated melt fronts recombine together during the mold filling stage. That is one of problems in injection molding. Weld lines in the appearance of plastics parts can deteriorate visible quality. And most importantly, the local mechanical strength in the weld line area can be significantly weaker. It could be one of the most problems for structural applications. In this study, the mold available two-shot-molding of same polymers have been designed, and a series of experiment about tensile strength in weld line area has been conducted using Taguchi's design of experiment to optimize injection molding conditions decreasing of weld strength and find out a factors affected weld strength in two-shot- molding.
