  • Due to the aging effect, older people have relatively weaker muscular performance, less range of motion in the joint articulation, and the lower sense of equilibrium than younger people. These factors attribute to their slow and clumsy ingress/egress motion. In order to analyze ingress/egress motion strategy of the elderly, healthy thirty 65 or more years old volunteers were recruited. The health condition of the each volunteer was verified by the medical checkup and also their physical capabilities were quantified by six fitness tests. Through the video analysis, older driver's ingress/egress motion strategies were classified and statistically investigated. For a comparison purpose, another thirty young volunteers also participated in the same test protocol and their ingress/egress motion strategies were also included in the statistical analysis.

  • This study attempts to develop improved ingress and egress in vehicle for disabled wheelchair people who driving is available, after investigating the ingress and egress relation demand and the inconvenient factor in the vehicle. An experiment was performed for that disabled wheelchair people to analyze the characteristics of ingress and egress relation operation through the questionnaire survey and the camera photographing. The results suggest various improvements possibilities in inside handlebar as a main factor. Through analysis of disabled wheelchair person's ingress and egress tendency, the alternative shape and position of inside handlebar are suggested. Also, this paper aimed to draw ingress and egress improvement proposal by executing a verification experiment and collecting the preferences from disabled people.

  • The objective of this paper is to study the usability of the ingress/egress of elderly people, and analyze the physiological workload electromyography (EMG). We investigated the factors of discomfort while the elderly people are using the ingress/egress. Experiments were performed using a seating buck with 22 elderly participants (over 65 years old). The results showed that different muscles are activated during ingress and egress. A system called "easy access" was found which helps to access easily when a driver gets into a car. The current easy access was compared a newly proposed one. It was found that elderly people use less muscle during in/egress in the new easy access system.

  • This paper describes a novel quantitative discomfort evaluation method based on motion data and its application to discomfort analysis of ingress/egress motions for cars. To develop the discomfort evaluation model, we introduced the discomfort regression curve and the range of motion for each degree-of-freedom of the joints of a whole human body. The maximum discomfort value for the joints at a specific time is selected to represent the discomfort value of the whole body at the time. The results of the experiments and questionnaires support the claim that our discomfort measure matches experimental subjective discomfort levels.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of seat heights for optimizing the ingress/egress performance in the elderly people. Background: Recently elderly users have been increasing in number and the ease of ingress/egress of the vehicle becomes an important issue. Method: Seven elderly subjects participated in this study(age: 71.7${\pm}$3.6yr, height: 167.7${\pm}$5.4cm, weight: 68.1${\pm}$11.5kg). Each subject performed the sitting and rising task from comfortable seated position on the chair under the following conditions: (1) with a lumbar support and (2) without a lumbar support. We measured EMG activities of seven muscles(tibialis anterior, soleus, gastrocnemius, vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, biceps femoris and erector supinae) and ranges of motion in lower limb during sitting and standing from three different heights (400mm, 500mm and 600mm from ground) of slide-up seat. Results: Muscle activities and angular movements of hip and knee joints during standing-up and sitting-down with a high seat height(600mm) were reduced mean 30.4% in extensor muscles, 57.11% in flexor muscle, 18.74% in erector muscle and 31.0% in joints compared with a low seat height(400mm). Conclusion: Muscle activities and joint movements in hip and knee were reduced when rising/sitting from a high seat height(600mm) compared with a low seat height(400mm). Application: This study can be used to design vehicle that are easy to get in and out of by older peoples with or without impairments.

  • This paper proposes a novel discomfort assessment method for truck ingress and egress motions based on the maximum-voluntary-contraction (MVC) ratios of muscles obtained by biomechanical analysis of human musculoskeletal models. In this study, a human motion to enter and exit a truck cabin with different types and heights of footsteps is first measured using an optical motion capture system and load sensors. Next, in a biomechanical analysis system, a human musculoskeletal model with contacting conditions on footsteps and handles is modeled, and then joint torques and muscles forces are calculated by inverse dynamics of the musculoskeletal model with the motion data. Finally, the MVC ratios for the muscles are calculated and their statistical values are used as the measure of discomfort. To ensure the feasibility of our method, subjective discomfort levels have been investigated through the participants' experiments and questionnaires and compared to the results of our method. Comparing to the existing methods based on joint angles or torques, our approach provide a more essential criterion for discomfort because it is based on the muscle contraction by which an active human motion is basically generated.

  • The NG-SDH system requires signal synchronization to synchronize incoming ethernet signal with GFP frame. The foreign nation research completes a chipset development until now and it secures a relation technique, but it does not secure a relation technique from domestic. Therefore, in this paper, we presented with signal synchronization method of Ethernet signal through GFP frame. We knew that the synchronized method of Ethernet signal through GFP-F must apply ingress & egress buffer and GFP Idle. We understood that the synchronized method of Ethernet signal through GFP-T must apply GFP Idle and $65B{\_}PAD$, and require maximum 3-bit addition & deletion of idle. Also we showed signal synchronization realization through simulation and obtained MTIE/TDEV characteristics and peak to peak jitter in egress output.

  • In this paper, we implemented and tested MPOA(MutiProtocol Over ATM) standardized in ATM Forum, which provides service for various layer 3 protocols as well as legacy LAN applications over ATM networks. The functions of MPCs(MPOA Clients) and MPSs(MPOA Servers) which are the components in MPOA systems are implemented. MPCs are located at the edge device and MPOA hosts and MPSs exist in routers. The implemented MPCs have the functions such as exchances of primitives between an LEC(LAN Emulation Client) and an MPC, management and maintenance of Egress/Ingress cache, default transmission through LECs and shortcut transmission. Assuming that routing, convergence and NHRP(Next Hop Resolution Protocol) functions exist in routers, the implemented MPSs have the functions such as exchanges of primitives between an LEC and an MPC, conversion and exchanges of frames between MPOA and NHRP, and management and maintenance of Egress/Ingress cache. All of the possible scenarios are made up to test whether they run correctly. The implemented system is tested by simulation according to the scenarios.
