  • Statement of problem : The Cement as well as restoration required esthetics for making natural color restoration. Purpose : The purpose of this research is to evaluate color stability of restoration intermediated by resin cement which is used for cementation of all ceramic crown. Material and method : After making Empress 2 ingot into the size of $10mm{\times}10mm{\times}1mm$ according to indication, it glazed and made 48 Empress 2 blocks. Three kinds of resin cement(Rely-X, Variolink 2, Choice) having same shade cemented between Empress 2 blocks and Ivory shade tiles and made 48 specimens in the thickness of $30{\mu}m$ and $80{\mu}m$. After measureing color difference using spectorphotomenter, the result of this study were as follows. Results : The color difference of resin cement used in experiment increased in the order Rely-X, Variolink 2. As the thickness of cement increases, the color difference of all kinds of cement found statistically sifnificant difference but, this result is clinically acceptable. Conclusion : More resarch would have to be done in order to decrease the color difference as cement's thickness.

  • A quartz glass crucible is the essential material for manufacturing silicon ingots such as semiconductors and solar cells. Quartz glass crucibles for semiconductors and solar cells are made similar, but differ in surface purity, structure and durability. Recently, ultra high purity synthetic glass crucibles for semiconductors have become more important due to foreign problems. In Korea, it has succeeded in producing 28-inch quartz glass crucibles through the past 10 years. However, 32-inch synthetic quartz glass for the production of silicon ingots for semiconductors is not up to the level of advanced technology, and the technology gap is expected to be 2 to 3 years. In order to overcome these technological gaps and localize synthetic quartz glass ware, close cooperation between production companies and demand companies and localization of synthetic quartz glass powder must also be made. In addition, if government support can be added, faster results can be expected.

  • One of the most critical aspects of the modern semiconductor industry is the quality of wafer surface, the roughness of which is mostly caused by the ingot slicing. And the grinding is supposed to be the main process to reduce the surface roughness. The vibrations of the disc surface grinder are the major problem to effectively achieve the required surface quality. In this study, the structure of a disc surface grinder was analyzed through the experiment and the computer simulation to investigate the dynamic characteristics of the machine, and further to alter the design for the improved stability. The result of the study shows that simple design alterations without alternating main body can effectively suppress the vibrations of the machine.

  • Effects of casting Processes and lubricant addition were studied to improve remanence of 31RE-68TM-lB based sintered magnet by using axial pressing process. Strip casting was effective to get the fine and homogeneous microstructure without ${\alpha}$-Fe segregation. The strip cast flake resulted in narrower particle size distribution after jet milling with respect to the conventional cast ingot. During pressing step with a magnetic field, the particle alignment was increased by appropriate addition of liquid lubricant. In this study, it was revealed that narrow particle size distribution and appropriate addition of liquid lubricant were essential to improve the grain alignment and thus the remanence of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnet.

  • A solid-HDDR characteristics of the Nd-Fe-B-type alloys magnetic properties of the solid-HDDR treated materials have been investigated using three types of alloys; $Nd_{15}Fe_{77}B_8 (alloy A), Nd_{16}Fe_{75.9}B_8Zr_{0.1}(alloy B), and Nd_{12.6}Fe_{68.7}Co_{11.6}B_8Ga_{1.0}Zr_{0.1} $(alloy C). It has been found that the four-components alloy B and six-components alloy C have showed higher hydrogenation temperatures than the ternary alloy A. The alloys A and B appeared to absorb more hydrogen gas more rapidly as well compared to the alloy C. The disproportionation temperature of hydrogenated materials was exhibited no significant difference among the alloys. The thermal stability of the hydrided materials of the three types of alloys was found to become more stable in order of number of components. The disproportionation and the recombination kinetics were significantly sluggish in the solid-HDDR manner with respect to the conventional manner. Some degree of anisotropic nature was found to exist in the ingot and this anisotropic nature was retained even after the solid-HDDR treatment. It was suggested the solid-HDDR treatment may possibly be used for a preparation of an isotropic or anisotropic Nd-Fe-B-type cast magnets.

  • Nanoparticles of PbTe are prepared via chemical reaction of the equimolar aqueous solutions of $Pb(CH_3COO)_2$ and Te at $120^{\circ}C$. The size of the obtained particles is 100 nm after calcination in a hydrogen atmosphere. Dense specimens for the thermoelectric characterization are produced by spark plasma sintering of prepared powders at $400^{\circ}C$ to $500^{\circ}C$ under 80 MPa for 5 min. The relative densities of the prepared specimens reach approximately 97% and are identified as cubic based on X-ray diffraction analyses. The thermoelectric properties are evaluated between $100^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$ via electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient, and thermal conductivity. Compared with PbTe ingot, the reduction of the thermal conductivities by more than 30% is verified via phonon scattering at the grain boundaries, which thus contributes to the increase in the figure of merit.

  • The formation of brittle intermetallic compound such as $VAl_3$ tends tp lower the toughness of V-Al alloys. Also, due to the high melting point of vanadium, it is difficult to make that alloy by previous ingot metallurgy method. To depress the technique has been adopted. The effect of particle size and milling time on the phase has been thoroughly studied. For mechanical alloying, SPEX mixed/mill has been used. The milling time and the composition of V and Al are varied to find the optimum condition of forming amorphous phase. The X-Ray Diffrection pattern, microstructure detection, microhandess test, experiments are carried out to analyze MA product. When the final step is reached, no lamellar-structure is detected. The steady state condition is observed after 8 hours and 10 hours milling for 15wt.%Al and 30wt.%Al alloy, respectively. The microhardness continuously increases up to 10 hours after then it remains constant.

  • So far, the study on semi-solid process has been carried out to develop and research new advanced materials without some casting defects. In this study, A356 billets consisted of various dendritic shapes were prepared using electro-magnetic stirring process continuously. As-cast respectively has liquidus temperature of $625.6^{\circ}C$ and solidus temperature of $573.55^{\circ}C$ A356 slugs were reheated homogeneously at different temperatures of 580, 590 and $605^{\circ}C$, followed by squeezing in a mold insulated with applied pressures(0, 25, 50 and 70 MPa). In order to investigate on aging responce for casts, 50 MPa squeezed specimen among all specimens was prepared in aging treatments, which conditions are aging temperature of $160^{\circ}C$ and holding times of 0, 45, 90, 270, 360, 720, 1440 and 2880 min after solution treatment ($540^{\circ}C$ for 10 hr). SSM ingot with the output velocity of 150mm/min appeared more spheroidal shape and fine structure than that with the output velocity of 250 mm/min. According to increasing in reheating temperature, numbers of fatigue cycles, U.T.S and elongation increased at same time.

  • Metallurgical-grade polycrystalline silicon was directionally solidified at growth rates of $0.2{\sim}1.0mm/min$ by using split type, reusable graphite molds which were coated with $Si_3N_4$ powder. The resultant grain sizes of the silicon ingots and the shapes of the solid/liquid(S/L) interfaces were investigated. X-ray diffraction was used to determine the preferred orientation in each of the silicon ingots. The impurity content of the silicon was analyzed and the resistivities of the ingots were measured. During the growth of an ingot, the shape of the S/L interface was concave to the silicon melt, and the resistivity decreased. The presence of Al which can be acting as a carrier, is thought to be the main factor causing such a decrease in resistivity. When a growth rate of 0.2㎜/min was used, the preferred orientation was found to be (111).
