Two-dimensional infrared (2D-IR) spectroscopy can probe the fast structural evolution of molecules under thermal equilibrium. Vibrational frequency fluctuation caused by structural evolution produced the time-dependent line shape change in 2D-IR spectrum. A variety of methods has been used to connect the evolution of 2D-IR spectrum with Frequency-Frequency Correlation Function (FFCF), which connects the experimental observables to a molecular level description. Here, a new method to extract FFCF from 2D-IR spectra is described. The experimental observable is the time-dependent frequency shift of maximum peak position in the slice spectrum of 2D-IR, which is taken along the excitation frequency axis. The direct relation between the 2D-IR peak shift and FFCF is proved analytically. Observing the 2D-IR peak shift does not need the full 2D-IR spectrum which covers 0-1 and 1-2 bands. Thus data collection time to determine FFCF can be reduced significantly, which helps the detection of transient species.
In multivariate analysis, absorbance spectrum is measured over a band of wavelengths. One does not often pay attention to the size of this wavelength band. However, it is desirable that spectrum is measured at only necessary wavelengths as long as the acceptable accuracy of prediction can be met. In this paper, the method of selecting an optimal band of wavelengths based on the loading vector analysis was proposed and applied for determining total protein in human serum using near-infrared transmission spectroscopy and PLSR. Loading vectors in the full spectrum PLSR were used as reference in selecting wavelengths, but only the first loading vector was used since it explains the spectrum best. Absorbance spectra of sera from 97 outpatients were measured at 1530∼1850 nm with an interval of 2 nm. Total protein concentrations of sera were ranged from 5.1 to 7.7 g/㎗. Spectra were measured by Cary 5E spectrophotometer (Varian, Australia). Serum in the 5 mm-pathlength cuvette was put in the sample beam and air in the reference beam. Full spectrum PLSR was applied to determine total protein from sera. Next, the wavelength region of 1672∼1754 nm was selected based on the first loading vector analysis. Standard Error of Cross Validation (SECV) of full spectrum (1530∼l850 nm) PLSR and selected wavelength PLSR (1672∼1754 nm) was respectively 0.28 and 0.27 g/㎗. The prediction accuracy between the two bands was equal. Wavelength selection based on loading vector in PLSR seemed to be simple and robust in comparison to other methods based on correlation plot, regression vector and genetic algorithm. As a reference of wavelength selection for PLSR, the loading vector has the advantage over the correlation plot since the former is based on multivariate model whereas the latter, on univariate model. Wavelength selection by the first loading vector analysis requires shorter computation time than that by genetic algorithm and needs not smoothing.
The intensive dust observation experiment has been performed at Korea Global Atmosphere Watch Center (KGAW) in Anmyeon, Korea during each spring season from 2007 to 2009. Downward and upward hyper-spectral spectrums over the dust condition were measured to understand the hyper-spectral properties of Asian dust using both ground-based Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and space-borne AIRS/Aqua. To understand the impact of the Asian dust, a Line-by-Line radiative transfer model runs to calculate the high resolution infrared spectrum over the wave number range of $500-500cm^{-1}$. Furthermore, the radiosonde, a $PM_{10}$ Sampler, a Micro Pulse Lidar (MPL), and an Aerodynamic Particle Sizer (APS) are used to understand the vertical profile of temperature and humidity and the properties of Asian dust like concentration, altitude of dust layer, and size distribution. In this study, we found the Asian dust distributed from surface up to 3-4 km and volume concentration is increased at the size range between 2 and $8{\mu}m$ The observed dust spectrums are larger than the calculated clear sky spectrums by 15~60K for downward and lower by around 2~6K for upward in the wave number range of $800-1200cm^{-1}$. For the characteristics of the spectrum during the Asian dust, the downward spectrum is revealed a positive slope for $800-1000cm^{-1}$ region and negative slope over $1100-1200cm^{-1}$ region. In the upward spectrum, slopes are opposed to the downward one. It is inferred that the difference between measured and calculated spectrum is mostly due to the contribution of emission and/or absorption of the dust particles by the aerosol amount, size distribution, altitude, and composition.

The thin film of PbTiO3 is fabricated at substrate temperature of 100-150$^{\circ}C$. The infrared spectrum of the ferroelectric thin film is measured as temperature of thermal treatment, 400 - 550$^{\circ}C$. According to infrared spectrum analysis, there are absorption bands at a nearby wave number of 1000 $\sim$ 400 cm-l and the thin film treated by temperature of 550$^{\circ}C$ has absorption bands of wave number 500 cm-l similar to infrared response property of PbTiO3 powder. The pyroelectric infrared detector is fabricated after deposition of Pt and PbTiO3 thin film on Si wafer by sputtering machine. The measured remnant polarization are 11.5-12.5$\muC/cm2$, breakdown electric field Ec is 100-120KV/cm, and voltage responsivity and detectivity is -280V/W, -108cm Hz/W.
Spectral emissivity depends on the surface conditions of the materials. The mechanisms that affect the spectral emissivity in anodic oxide films on aluminum were investigated. The aluminum specimens were anodized in a sulfuric acid solution and the thickness of the resulting oxide film formed changed with the anodizing time. FT-IR spectrum analysis identified the anodic oxide film as boehmite ($Al_2$$O_3$.$H_2$O). Both the infrared emisivity and reflectivity of the anodized aluminum were affected by the structure of the anodic oxide film because Al-OH and Al-O-Al have a pronounced absorption band in the infrared region of the spectrum. The presence of an anodic oxide film on aluminum caused a rapid drop in the infrared reflectivity. An aluminum surface in the clean state had an emissivity of approximately 0.2. However, the infrared emissivity rapidly increased to 0.91 as the thickness of the anodic oxide film increased.
The elegant early experiments of Herschel demonstrated that there is light after the visible spectrum in a region we call the near infrared (NIR). This was followed by the work which showed that the spectrum went further into what we call the mid infrared (MIR). The MIR has been used for many years as a qualitative and quantitative region to measure constituent values. The MIR region contains the fundamental vibrations which can be theoretically calculated from symmetry rules and harmonic oscillator equations. The NIR is not as straight forward because the region from 400-2500 nm does not contain any of the fundamental vibrations only combination bands and overtones. Over the past fifty years efforts to understand the NIR have largely been ignored while the quantitative aspects of the region have been utilized. This presentation will focus on the efforts to define terms for NIR, examine the calculation of combination bands and overtones and ways to interpret the spectra. The interpretation of the NIR has been aided greatly in recent years by the use of two dimensional spectroscopy which allows the correlation of bands in one spectral region with that of the NIR.
Using the net analyte signal, hybrid linear analysis was proposed to predict chemical concentration. In this paper, we select a sample from training set and apply orthogonal signal correction to obtain an improved pseudo unit spectrum for hybrid least analysis. using the mean spectrum of a calibration training set, we first show the calibration by hybrid least analysis is effective to the prediction of not only chemical concentrations but also physical property variables. Then, a pseudo unit spectrum from a training set is also tested with and without orthogonal signal correction. We use two data sets, one including five chemical concentrations and the other including ten physical property variables, to compare the performance of partial least squares and modified hybrid least analysis calibration methods. The results show that the hybrid least analysis with a selected training spectrum instead of well-measured pure spectrum still gives good performances, which is a little better than partial least squares.
In Infrared rays, which are 50% of sunlight, act as heat rays to heat buildings. Solar heat paint is widely used to protect buildings from sunlight. Solar heat coatings are used to block buildings form sunlight. Solar heat paints are classified as heat-reflective paints and heat-insulating paints according to the differential thermal mechanism. In this study, we study the thermal differential mechanism by analyzing the temperature change of the coated steel plate and the solar reflection spectrum on the surface. In this experiment, exposed steel plate, heat-reflective coated steel plate, heat-insulating coated steel plate, and general paint coated steel plate were used. As a result, when the infrared rays of 780nm ~ 1400nm were irradiated, the heat reflective paint had a temperature lower by 10 degrees than other paints. Analysis of the reflection spectrum of the paint shows that the heat paint is lower in heat than other paints because it has higher reflectance of light and absorbs much of the infrared rays.
Owing to many advantages on indirect intersubband absorption from the hole miniband to the electron miniband based on the type-II band alignment in InAs/GaSb strained-layer superlattice (SLS), InAs/GaSb SLS infrared photodetector (SLIP) has emerged as a promising system to realize high-detectivity quantum photodetector operating up to room temperature in the spectral range of mid-infrared (MIR) to far-infrared (FIR). In particular, n-barrier-n (n-B-n) structure designed for blocking the majority-carrier dark current makes it possible for MIR/FIR dual-band SLIP whose photoresponse (PR) band can be exclusively selected by the bias polarity. In this study, we present the MIR and FIR photoresponse (PR) mechanism identified by dual-band PR spectra and photoluminescence (PL) profiles taken from InAs/GaSb SLIP. In the MIR/FIR PR spectra measured by changing bias polarity, each spectrum individually shows a series of distinctive peaks related to the transitions from the hole subbands to the conduction one. The PR mechanism at each polarity is discussed in terms of diffusion current, and a superposition of MIR-PR in the FIR-PR spectrum is explained by tunnelling of electrons activated in MIR-SLS. The effective FIR-PR spectrum decomposed into three curves for HH1, LH1, and HH2 has revealed the edge energies of 120, 170, and 220 meV, respectively, and the temperature variation of the MIR-PR edge energies shows that the temperature behavior of the SLS systems can be approximately expressed by the Varshni empirical equation.

The reflection nebula NGC 7023 is a typical example of a photodissociation region (PDR), which consists of high density molecular gas that is exposed to an intense UV radiation field. The source of the UV photons in NGC 7023 is the young pre-main-sequence Be star HD 200755. We present our near-infrared high-resolution (R ~ 40,000) spectrum of NGC 7023, covering a region of $1{\times}15$ arcseconds, observed during the commissioning runs of IGRINS (Immersion GRating near-INfrared Spectrometer). The spectrum shows many strong narrow emission lines that arise from the molecular rovibrational transitions of H2. From the intensity ratios between these H2 lines, we investigate physical conditions within the PDR such as the temperature, density, and pressure. The high spectral resolution of IGRINS allows us to resolve the velocity field of the PDR. In addition, we compare the IGRINS spectrum to Cloudy PDR model.
