Our understanding of how barriers to access systematically varies with the compositional and contextual characteristics of users is incomplete. Using a public university library in Ghana, this study assessed the heterogeneous barriers or constraints students encounter in accessing electronic resources based on their demographic and contextual attributes. A descriptive survey design was adopted and structured questionnaires were administered randomly to 558 students in the four constituent colleges of the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. Data were collected and analysed using SPSS and descriptive statistics were generated. The results revealed that students faced six key challenges in accessing electronic information resources in the library namely delays in download of information, poor internet connectivity, and limited accessibility of university portal, inadequate computers in the library, poor lighting and limited ancillary services (on the spot printing facilities), with differences based on gender, academic level, and college affiliation. Only 24% males and 26% females had no challenges or problems with delays in download of electronic information. About three-fourth of all users had poor internet connectivity and complained about inadequate computers associated with accessing electronic resources. 40% percent of undergraduate students in the Colleges of Education Studies, Agriculture and Natural Sciences, and Humanities and Legal Studies each encountered four to six simultaneous challenges. Irrespective of gender, first year undergraduate students in all the four colleges were the least likely to report multiple challenges. This suggests the need for targeted and context-specific interventions to address the identified challenges.
Fingerprint-based biometric identification is one of the most interesting automatic systems for identifying individuals. Owing to the poor sensing environment and poor quality of skin, biometrics remains a challenging problem. The main contribution of this paper is to propose a new approach to recognizing a person's fingerprint using the fingerprint's local characteristics. The proposed approach introduces the barycenter notion applied to triangles formed by the Delaunay triangulation once the extraction of minutiae is achieved. This ensures the exact location of similar triangles generated by the Delaunay triangulation in the recognition process. The results of an experiment conducted on a challenging public database (i.e., FVC2004) show significant improvement with regard to fingerprint identification compared to simple Delaunay triangulation, and the obtained results are very encouraging.
The peformance and quality of Web sites are often being estimated by the frequency that the users approach its site. This paper suggest how a link-editing method can automatically fix a poor organization by calculating each page's relative popularity, and how improve fix poor pages. Page's relative popularity depended on only cases where the objective Is to make it easier for a user to find the requested data; the faster the access, the better the organization of the Web sites according to tree depth.

This paper investigates the restoration schemes which are applied to the MPLS domain upon a network failure. We define the following three restoration service models by combining the various restoration schemes: "FIS-based protection service" (FIS: failure indication signal), "inversion traffic protection service" and "1+1 protection service". After a qualitative analysis of the performance in them, we have analyzed it on quantitative basis by the simulation. According to the simulation results, "1+1 protection service" guarantees the fastest and most lossless restoration service among them; however, it results in consuming considerable bandwidth and producing an amount of control traffic, which means poor network utilization. On the other hand, "FIS-based protection service" spends less bandwidth and generates less control traffic, which means better network utilization, but produces poor restoration service. "Inversion traffic protection service" provides the medium restoration service and utilization between "1+1 protection service" and "FIS-based protection service."
Purpose - The study aimed to evaluate the market opportunities and constraints confronting resource-poor pig farmers in South Africa. Research design, data, and methodology - Information was collected from 292 households in three municipalities through interviews with key informants. The data collected included socio-economic characteristics, major market channels, prices for different pig classes, average weight of the pigs on sale, number of pigs sold annually, and preferred meat quality attributes. Results - In Ngqushwa, 96% of respondents sold pigs as compared to Elundini (81%) and Ntabankulu (65%). Less resource-poor households and those with market-oriented production had large herdsizes (P < 0.05) when compared to more resource-poor farmers. The probability of selling pigs was high for the backyard production system and educated farmers. For all farmers, opportunities included high pork demand, good prices, employment creation, and a niche market for organically produced indigenous pork. Constraints include disease, feed shortages for large herds, distances to formal markets, lack of training, and drugs. Conclusions - Constraints outnumbered opportunities for the resource-poor pig farmers.
A functional ability and adequate nutritional status are the major determinants of health status, Self-rated health (SRH) is a worldwide method to assess health status and it is recognized as a predictor of morbidity and mortality in the elderly, This study was designed to evaluate the functional ability and nutritional risk according to SRH in the elderly. Four hundred nine free-living elderly people (118 male, 291 female), aged $\geq$ 65 years were interviewed by trained interviewers using structured questionnaires including demographic information, SRH, anthropometric measurements, functional ability, general health status, and nutritional risk. SRH was divided into three status such as “Good”, “Moderate” and “Poor” status. And all the data were analyzed by oneway ANOVA, spearman correlation, and x$^2$ analysis using SPSS 9.0 version at p 〈 0.05. Of all the subjects, 48.9% perceived their health status as “poor”, and their functional abilities (activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living) were more impaired than their counterparts (“good” and “moderate”). Poor self-rated health was also related to: a higher prevalence of illnesses (p 〈 0,001) especially in hypertension, arthritis. Self-rated health was significantly related to food security (p 〈 0.001), food enjoyment (p 〈 0.001) ,and nutritional knowledge (p = 0.0 13). Also NSI checklist total score was the highest in “poor” health status (p 〈 0.001). Better self-rated health was related to better food security, and better food enjoyment. However, smoking, alcoholic intake, exercise, eating behaviors, and demographic characteristics were not significantly different among the three SRH status. SRH was closely related to chronic diseases, functional ability, and nutritional risk in the elderly. Therefore, public health strategies for the elderly should be focused on the elderly who are “poor” in SRH, to improve nutritional status and functional ability, and to reduce risk factors of chronic diseases.
Traversable region detection is an essential step for advanced driver assistance systems and self-driving car systems, and it has been conducted by detecting lanes from input images. The performance can be unreliable, however, when the light condition is poor or there exist no lanes on the roads. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an algorithm which utilizes the information about the number of lanes and texture analysis. The proposed algorithm first specifies road region candidates by utilizing the number of lanes information. Among road region candidates, the road region is determined as the region in which texture is homogeneous and texture discontinuities occur around its boundaries. Traversable region is finally detected by dividing the estimated road region with the number of lanes information. This paper combines the proposed algorithm with a lane detection-based method to construct a system, and simulation results show that the system detects traversable region even on the road with poor light conditions or no lanes.
Purpose - This paper shows an unexplored area related to involuntary delisting. Specifically, this research investigates the effect of target firm information asymmetry on the likelihood that the acquirer or newly merged firm will be forcibly delisted post-merger. Design/methodology/approach - The research uses a sample gathered on local US mergers and acquisitions from the Thomson Reuters Securities Data Company (SDC) Platinum Mergers and Acquisitions database. It applies the logistic regression with industry and year effects and corrects the error term using clustering at the industry level. The research also matches the forced delisted firms to control firms based on industry, acquisition completion year, and firm size and then employs a matched sample analysis. Findings - Findings show that M&As between firms where the target firm is opaque and burdened with high information asymmetry issues are likely to be paid for using majority stock and that M&As involving such opaque targets also have a higher likelihood of getting delisted post-merger. Research implications or Originality - Our results are relevant given the very nature of M&As which involve two players: the acquirer and target who both may have different incentives. Acquirers especially have the tendency to suffer losses and even get delisted if they over-pay for or get merged to a poor target which conceals its poor performance evidenced by higher accruals quality.

We introduce a hybrid scheduling in a multi-path poor scattering full-duplex (FD) system, which consists of one multi-antenna FD base station and a large number of single-antenna half-duplex mobile stations. Our hybrid scheduling utilizes partial channel state information at the transmitter. In particular, unlike the conventional scheduling method using opportunistic transmission for both uplink and downlink, the proposed scheme combines a random transmit beamforming for downlink and a zero forcing beamforming for uplink. As our main result, via computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed scheme has a superior sum-rate performance than that of the conventional scheduling method beyond a certain signal-to-noise ratio regime.
This study was carried out to investigate the utilization status of internet dietary information by gender(boys: 363, girls: 366) in adolescent(middle & high school students). The results were summarized as follows. The internet using frequency of 6-7times per week had 45.0% of subjects and the using time of internet per a time was shown mainly'<2hours(68.5%)'. The main place for internet use was home(79.0%) and favorite search engine was 'Yahoo'(45.7%) and 'Daum'(19.3%). As main purpose using internet were mentioned 'social intercourse'(45.0%) and data search'(24.8%). The organization that offer to reliable internet information was educational institution'(49.4%). The problems in using information site were 'poor information'(26.4%), 'slow connection speed'(22.6%), and 'don't arouse interest'(18.8%). The search experience about dietary information had only 27.9% of subjects and search purpose was 'for homework'(33.3%) and 'for health'(32.0). The satisfaction degree of dietary information was not high. The connection motive to dietary information was mainly 'by site navigation casualty'(55.7%). Only 7.7% of subjects had experience of nutrition counseling using internet, and the motive of nutrition counseling was also 'by site navigation causally'(55.8%). The purpose of counseling was 'for diet'(41.5%) and 'for health problem'(30.2%), and the satisfaction degree of counseling result was very low. As the ask of improvement for counseling site were pointed out 'poor in answer content'(44.8%) and 'lazy answer'(31.0%). The subjects wanted to get the dietary information about 'growth in status'(41.4%), 'diet related skin beauty'(14.6%), the update period less 1 month, and the way of 'free board'(32.3%), 'game'(21.1%) and 'animation'(19.3%) as offer tool. The results of this study showed that although the internet using percent and frequency of subjects was high, they used dietary information very seldom and they are dissatisfied with internet nutritional information. Therefore, the information donor should consider which dietary information was needed and what is the optimal tool for adolescent.
