  • We model that separation is a rational decision to resolve the inherent uncertainty about quality form the matching process. In health insurance markets, quality of services is revealed to consumers only after enrollment. Discrepancies between the expected and realizeed quality lead utility-maximizing enrollees to disenroll if they find a better alternative. Accordingly, factors that reduce this discrepancy will decrease disenrollment. The firm-level empirical analysis shows that disenrollment is relatively small in markets where the reputation effect works efficiently becuse consumers can predict the expected quality accurately.

  • International construction projects are exposed to various and complicated risk factors stemming from different political, economical, social, and cultural backgrounds, which make contractors entering into international construction to experience severe losses. It implies that overseas markets do not necessarily secure the high return, which is typically expected to in the high risky attempts. Accordingly, contractors need to evaluate various risk factors faced with overseas construction projects that can possibly aggravate the profitability. This paper aims at establishing a valid groundwork for further research on developing the integrated risk management model. For this end, it analyzes the long-term trend of profitability on total of 3,487 projects performed by Korean global contractors in world-wide construction markets during the last four decades. Then, it investigates the possible factors/causes of bad profit that have affected the profitability significantly through the structured surveys of 90 real overseas projects based on the project-specific information and experiences of Korean contractors in overseas markets. Furthermore, it analyzes relative importance of these factors/causes and identifies the important features expected for the risk management of international construction projects. Finally, vital distinctions between success and failure projects and lessons learned to improve profitability are then distilled.

  • In the user-centered design paradigm, information systems are created entirely tailored to the users who will use them. When the functions of a complex system meet a simple user interface, users can use the system conveniently. While web personalization services are emerging as a major trend in portal services, portal companies are competing for a second service, such as introducing 'integrated communication platforms'. Until now, the role of the portal has been content and search, but this time, the goal is to create and provide the personalized services that users want through a single platform. Personalization service is a login-based cloud computing service. It has the characteristic of being able to enjoy the same experience at any time in any space with internet access. Personalized web services like this have the advantage of attracting highly loyal users, making them a new service trend that portal companies are paying attention to. Researchers spend a lot of time collecting research-related information by accessing multiple information sources. There is a need to automatically build interest information profiles for each researcher based on personal presentation materials (papers, research projects, patents). There is a need to provide an advanced customized information service that regularly provides the latest information matched with various information sources. Continuous modification and supplementation of each researcher's information profile of interest is the most important factor in increasing suitability when searching for information. As researchers' interest in unstructured information such as technology markets and research trends is gradually increasing from standardized academic information such as patents, it is necessary to expand information sources such as cutting-edge technology markets and research trends. Through this, it is possible to shorten the time required to search and obtain the latest information for research purposes. The interest information profile for each researcher that has already been established can be used in the future to determine the degree of relationship between researchers and to build a database. If this customized information service continues to be provided, it will be useful for research activities.

  • Many markets are forecast to see significant changes due to the growth of electronic commerce made possible by the internet. The way of doing business with internet affects the market mechanism. It is now over 10 years since Malone et al(1987) set out their hypothesis on electronic markets, and electronic hierarchies. An electronic market is an interorganizational information system through which multiple buyers and sellers interact to accomplish one or more of the following market-making activities. And they predicted that markets evolve toward electronic markets, by reducing search cost, which may result in significantly. higher price competition among sellers and therefore lower prices for buyers. And the degree of two factors; asset specificity and uncertainty, affect the market mechanism. Products with low asset specificity and low uncertainty are compatible with a market relationship while the greater the asset specificity and uncertainty, the more likely it is to favour a hierarchical structure. Based on the these researches, we observed and analyzed a case study of market mechanism in Internet business. We found the fact that even though Internet could make the business environment in which lots of buyers and suppliers participate, electronic market will evolve market mechanism. 1 analyzed two factors, which affected market evolution. First, When Asset specificity is low in electronic commerce, market structure should be preferred to hierarchical structure. Second, When transaction uncertainty is low in electronic commerce, market structure should be preferred In hierarchical structure. This research covers conceptual and empirical aspects on electronic market structure. Future research should be variously done about the influential factors of electronic market mechanism.

  • Warranty cost of automobile parts varies depending on the parts failure rate in a warranty region of individual markets. Parts failure rate is significantly affected by usage-rate given that other stressors of individual markets are similar. Accordingly, warranty cost can be predicted by failure modeling which reflects usage-rate and using a stochastic process. In this paper, one-dimensional approach is used by applying accelerated failure time model on the assumption that the usage-rate is linear. Such model can explain changes in parts failure rate depending on the changes in usage-rate since it can be expressed as a function of usage-rate. Therefore, acquisition of usage-rate in a new market will automatically lead to estimate of failure rate even without warranty data and warranty cost of parts can be predicted through a renewal process in replacement cases. A case study using warranty data of two real markets is presented in the application part of this paper.

  • Due to the decline of a rural community, traditional periodic markets regarded as a center of an agricultural village have been gradually downsized. While researchers have made a counterproposal to revitalize the traditional periodic markets, there has limit in examining how space structure of the traditional periodic markets affect visitors. Thus this study aims to analyze space structure and visitor circulation using a space syntax, a quantitative analysis focusing on PyeongChang Daehwa market. The finding revealed high degree of unification and clearness which means overall space structure was efficient for visitors to recognize and move across the space. However, there is required to build strategies encouraging consumption. The result of analyzing visitor circulation showed the degree of unification is the highest in visitor circulation where center of the market or main facilities is located. In sum, in order to revitalize deserted traditional periodic markets, rural communities need to work out strategies to encourage consumption and expand both information desk and convenience facilities.

  • The era of globalization provides us with both opportunities and threats. The success of a multinational corporation depends largely on its ability to adapt itself to new market environment. We believe that understanding and implementing multicultural PR strategy can be a key to the multinational corporations' success in foreign markets. We argue in this paper that even a global iconic company such as Google needs to focus on how to understand local consumers' needs and preferences before formulating and implementing PR strategy. Having a global hit product or service is not sufficient enough to be successful in some foreign markets. It is especially more evident in the industries where companies deal with individual consumers, and perceptions and sentiments play a large role in their purchase decisions. The objective of this research is to find out the relationship between multicultural PR strategy and business performance. Therefore, our main hypothesis is; better implementation of multicultural PR strategy by a multinational corporation will result in higher performance in the foreign markets. To prove the relationship between multicultural PR strategy and performance, we designed a framework that uses Rudan's (2004) five rules for multicultural PR strategy. It is a contribution to the business academics as there are very few studies that directly focus on and analyze the multicultural aspects of a multinational company's PR strategy. Through our research, we found strong evidence that there is a positive relationship between the level and effectiveness of a company's multicultural PR strategy and its performance in the foreign markets. This offers some meaningful implications to the managers of the multinational corporations and those who are considering going into a foreign market for the first time. We also suggested a way of measuring the implementation of multicultural PR strategy. By applying five rules for multicultural PR strategy to Google's PR activities, it allowed us to convert qualitative information into quantitative data. This kind of tool can be helpful for multinational corporations that want to evaluate their own PR activities.

  • The relationship about corporations' dividend policy and foreigners' share have been studied on the various views. However, there have barely been the studies about the relationships between the two variables according to hot and cold markets in Korea. In this point, this study attempts to find the differences of the tendency of foreigners' investment with financial variables and the relationship between foreigners' share and corporations' dividend policy according to hot and cold markets. For the analysis, it selected the 318 manufacturing corporations, which paid dividends in 2008 (cold market) and 2010(hot market). The results are classified into two types. 1) There are the difference, and 2) There are no differences of the relationships among the variables according to the two markets. First of all, The relationships between 1) foreigners' share and dividend 2) between foreigners' share and market value (Tobin's Q) and corporations' debt (Debt Ratio) were statistically significant in the both (hot and cold) markets. As showing the differences according to hot and cold markets, cash flow and foreigners' share showed the statistically significant relationships in 2010 (hot market), not in 2008 (cold market). One of the remarkable results is that most of relationships among variables, except the relationship between foreigners' share and dividend, are more strong in hot market than in cold market.

  • After the launch of PCS in 1997, the mobile telephone industry has achieved a remarkable growth in market share and sales, and substituted for long-distance wire communication market. This study investigates the interrelationships between the two markets in transition and attempts to perform the statistical tests if the diffusion of mobile telephone was the direct factor for the reduction in sales of long-distance communication industry. The evidence of the direct substitution effect between the two markets is not likely to be found. Unlike the general expectations, the test result seems to prove the sustained initial complementary relation for awhile.

  • An index fund is a collective investment scheme that aims to replicate the movements of an index of a specific financial market regardless of market conditions. An index fund is a popular investment alternative because it is much cheaper to run than an active fund and it performs better than actively managed funds. This paper illustrates the usefulness of wavelet analysis in constructing an index fund. The wavelet analysis can decompose the time series data in frequency domain as well as in time domain. The major findings of this paper are as follows. First, the beta coefficient that represents the systematic risk has the scale dependent property. This result can provide important information to the investors with various investment time frequency. Investors can use the betas corresponding to their investment frequencies among the various scale betas estimated by wavelet analysis. Second, we can find the usefulness of wavelet analysis in constructing index fund because the wavelet technique gives less tracking error(difference between the index performance and the index fund performance) than the traditional constructing techniques. The result of this study implies that the wavelet techniques can be an important analytic method to the other financial markets such as option market, futures market, bond markets and currency market.
