  • The part-of-speech determination is necessary for resolving the part-of-speech ambiguity in English-Korean machine translation. The part-of-speech ambiguity causes high parsing complexity and makes the accurate translation difficult. In order to solve the problem, the resolution of the part-of-speech ambiguity must be performed after the lexical analysis and before the parsing. This paper proposes the CatAmRes model, which resolves the part-of-speech ambiguity, and compares the performance with that of other part-of-speech tagging methods. CatAmRes model determines the part-of-speech using the probability distribution from Bayesian network training and the statistical information, which are based on the Penn Treebank corpus. The proposed CatAmRes model consists of Calculator and POSDeterminer. Calculator calculates the degree of appropriateness of the partof-speech, and POSDeterminer determines the part-of-speech of the word based on the calculated values. In the experiment, we measure the performance using sentences from WSJ, Brown, IBM corpus.

  • Korean language has different structural properties which are controlled by semantic constraints of verbs. Also, most of Korean sentences are complex sentences which consisted of main clause and embedded clause. Therefore it is difficult to describe appropriate syntactic grammar or constraint for the Korean language and the Korean parsing causes various syntactic ambiguities. In this paper, we suggest how to describe CFG-based grammar using sentence patterns as syntactic constraint and solve syntactic ambiguities. To solve this, we classified 44 sentence patterns including complex sentences which have subordinate clause in Korean sentences and used it to reduce syntactic ambiguity. However, it is difficult to solve every syntactic ambiguity using the information of sentence patterns. So, we used semantic markers with semantic constraint. Semantic markers can be used to solve ambiguity by auxiliary particle or comitative case particle.

  • In this study, we develope a revised model as well as application of decision problem under ambiguity based on the subjectively weighted linear utility medel. Bayes'rule is used when there are ambiguous probabilities on a decision problem and test information is available. A procedure for assessing the ambiguity aversion function is also presented. Decision problem of chemical corporation is used for an illustration of the application of the subjectively weighted linear utility model using Bayesian approach. We present the optimal decisiond using newly developed model. We also perform the sensitivity analysis to assure ourselves about the conclusion we obtianed on degree of ambiguity aversion due to characterize parameter of subjectively weighted linear utility model.

  • The accuracy rate of P2G (Phoneme-to-Grapheme) is one of the important factors determining the quality of unlimited voice recognition (VR) systems. Few studies were, however, conducted to reduce ambiguities of a phoneme string which can be segmented into a variety of different linguistic units (i.e. morphemes, words, eo-jeols), thus be transformed into more than one grapheme string. This paper is a preliminary research for building a large knowledge base of those homonymic & heterographic units(HHUs), which will provide unlimited Korean VR systems with more accurate P2G information. This paper analyzes 2 main factors generating HHUs: (1) boundary determination of the prosodic unit; (2) its segmentation into linguistic units. In this paper, linguistic characteristics determining variable boundaries of a prosodic unit are investigated, and the ambiguity types of HHUs are classified in accordance with their morphological and syntactic structures as well as with the phonological rules governing them.

  • As one of validation tool for attitude determination system, we have used various constraints using priori information which is known through base vector set up. However these conventional constraints cannot guarantee validity in terms of final solutions such as Euler angle. So we suggest attitude boundary concept to verify the final attitude solution on the flying airplane, it is based on the combination of velocity based attitude estimation technique and ambiguity resolution. we can say it can check invalid solution effectively at just one epoch without repeatability test of resolved cycle ambiguity. In this paper we show that the suggested constraint can effectively reject incorrectly resolved cycle ambiguity the conventional constraints have missed.

  • A design of CPS attitude determination system is described in this paper. The designed system is a low cost high precision 24 channel single frequency GPS(Global Positioning System) receiver which provides a precise absolute heading and pitch (or roll) as well as a position. It uses commercial chip-set and consists of two RF parts, two signal-tracking parts, a processor, memory parts and I/Os. In order to determine precise attitude, accurate carrier phase measurements and an efficient integer ambiguity resolution method are required. To meet these requirements, a PLL (Phase Locked Loops) is designed, and an algorithm called ARCE (Ambiguity Resolution with Constraint Equation) is adopted. The hardware and software structure of the system will be described, and the performance evaluated under various conditions will be presented. The test results will promise that more reliable navigation system be possible because the system provides all navigational information such as position, velocity, time and attitude.

  • This paper describes a design of simple and precision direction finder that can be adapted to shipboard or mobile vehicles used for Electronic support measure, ELINT and radio signal monitoring systems. The direction finding technology has improved with monolithic integrated circuit, linear array antennas, and interferometer. Interferometer uses the phase-comparison principle and has a good direction finding accuracy but it has an ambiguity problem. We suggest a simple ambiguity solver using phase-comparison technology with amplitude-comparison principle. The direction finding device that has been designed by the suggested method has 0.7 degree RMS error in azimuth angle and 0.6 degree RMS error in elevation angle in 0.5 - 2.0 GHz.

  • A method of on-line recognition of Korean characters (Hangeul) by augmented conterxt free grammar is described in this paper. Syntactic analysis with context free grammar oftern has ambiguity. Insufficient description of relations among Hangrul sub-patterns causes this ambiguity can be determined through repetition of experiments. Flexible syntactic analysis is executed by adapting the condition to the (advice)part of augmented context free grammar. The ratio of correct recognition of this method is more than 99%.

  • Purpose - Previous research has shown that a very high level and a very low level of job scope can both be more stressful than intermediate levels of job scope. This study investigates the potential positive and negative effects of the number of accounts handled by sales personnel. The primary objective of this paper is to examine how the number of accounts salespeople handle affects their stress and performance. Research design, data, and methodology - This research conducted the data collection using a survey of salespeople in the pharmaceutical industry. I sent the survey to 420 salespeople, and received 318 usable responses. To assess measurement reliability and validity, I ran an exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. I also employed structural equation modeling (SEM) to test all hypothesized effects in AMOS and also measured the interaction variable using Ping's (1996) approach. Results - These results show that there are linear and non-linear effects of the number of accounts handled by the salesperson on both role ambiguity and role conflict. First, the number of accounts handled by a salesperson is positively related to role ambiguity and role conflict. Second, the effect of the number of accounts handled on role ambiguity and role conflict decreases as the number of accounts handled by the salesperson increases. Third, as accounts increase from a low level, role stress increases; when the number of accounts reaches an optimal level, role stress decreases; and when the number of accounts increases to a high level, it can be detrimental to the salesperson's role stress. Fourth, while product complexity is positively related to role ambiguity, brand strength is negatively related to both role ambiguity and role conflict. Fifth, the greater the brand strength, the weaker the relationship will be between the number of accounts handled and salesperson role ambiguity. Finally, role ambiguity is positively related to salesperson performance. Conclusion - Too much and too little accounts increase the role ambiguity and role conflict of salespersons. Managers should identify the complex effect of the number of accounts handled by salespeople. Also, when products are complex, managers should provide training to eliminate any complex processes and complex information. These results suggest ways to decrease salespersons' role stress by ensuring an optimal level of the number of accounts and brand strength.
