The end winding is an important part in induction motor for thermal analysis. But there is little information on the heat transfer coefficient of that surfaces because of geometrical complexity. So our experimental object is to know the heat transfer coefficient of end winding and find the optimum design parameter of rotor fan. Carbon coated papers were used for a uniform heat generating surfaces which were easy to fabricate. The experiments of some parameters were performed as varying rotation speed of rotor fan. We obtained the local and average Nusselt number of the end winding surfaces by correcting radiation and conduction losses errors. The results showed that the average Nusselt number increased with rotor fan blade number and width but decreased with end winding length. However, the increasing limits existed in the case of rotor fan width and blade number. So optimum design value were obtained for rotor fan width and blade numbers.

Gas heating, high frequency induction heating and laser heating can be used as the heat-source of line heating. Most of shipyards have been using the gas heating method for line heating. It is difficult to control the residual deformation of gas heating. High frequency induction heating is more feasible for the automation of line heating rather than the gas heating method since it is easy to control the magnitude of heat input. In this study, a numerical model of high frequency induction heating process is proposed for the application of the line heating. The simulation process of the induction heating is composed of the electromagnetic analysis, the heat transfer analysis, and the thermal deformation analysis.

Induction heating is a process that is accompanied with magnetic and thermal situation. When the high-frequency current flows in the coil, induced eddy current generates heat to conductor. To simulate an induction and induction heating process, the finite element analysis program was developed. A coupling method between the magnetic and thermal routines was developed. In the process of magnetic analysis and thermal analysis, magnetic material properties and thermal material properties depending on temperature are taken into consideration. In this paper, to predict the angular deformation, temperature difference and the shape of heat affected zone were discussed. Also appropriate coil shape and other process variables for maximum angular deformation were proposed.
Rapid mold heating has been recent issue to enable the injection molding of thin-walled parts or micro/nano structures. High-frequency induction is an efficient way to heat mold surface by electromagnetic induction in a non-contact manner, and has been recently applied to the injection molding due to its capability of rapid heating and cooling of mold surface. The present study covers a three-dimensional finite element analysis to investigate heating efficiency and structural safety of the induction heating process of an injection mold. To simulate the induction heating process, an integrated simulation method is proposed by effectively connecting an electromagnetic field analysis, a transient heat transfer analysis and a thermal stress analysis. The estimated temperature changes are compared with experimental measurements for various types of induction coil, from which heating efficiency according to the coil shape is discussed. The resulting thermal stress distributions of the mold plate for various types of induction coils are also evaluated and discussed in terms of the structural safety.
High-frequency induction is an efficient way to heat mold surface by electromagnetic induction in a noncontact procedure. It has been recently applied to the injection molding of thin-walled parts or micro/nano structures. Though the induction heating has an advantage in terms of its rapid-heating capacity on the mold surface, it still has difficulty in efficient mold temperature control due to the restriction of an induction coil design suitable for the given mold shape. The present study proposed a localized mold heating method by means of selective use of mold material. For localized induction heating, an injection mold composed of ferromagnetic material and paramagnetic material is used. The electromagnetic induction concentrates on the ferromagnetic material, from which we can selectively heat for the local mold elements. The feasibility of the proposed heating method is investigated through an experimental measurement in terms of the heating efficiency on the localized mold surface.

Rapid mold heating has been recent issue to enable the injection molding of thin-walled parts or micro/nano structures. Induction heating is an efficient way to heat material by means of an electric current that is caused to flow through the material or its container by electromagnetic induction. It has various applications such as heat treatment, brazing, welding, melting, and mold heating. The present study covers an experimental investigation of induction heating in order to rapidly raise the mold temperature. It is observed that the mold surface temperature is raised up to $200^{\circ}C$ in 2 seconds. This induction heating is applied to injection molding of a flexspline for a plastic harmonic drive, which has difficulty in cavity filling because its minimum thickness is only 0.35 mm. The induction heating is then successfully implemented on this ultra-thin wall molding by raising the mold surface temperature around the glass-transition temperature of the molding material.

In order to prevent crack in thick weld zones, the preheating process such as induction and gas torch heating needs to be applied. Among them induction heating is the most effective heat source because it has rare thermal effect and very rapid heating characteristics. In this paper, when the induction heating method is used to improve arc welding, the temperature distribution and magnetic field density of the welding zones are analyzed by simultaneously solving heat transfer and electromagnetic field equation. In particular, cone and flat type coils are designed and induction heating effects of each type are compared to identify heating characteristics on a V-groove weld joint. As a result, a cone shape coil is more efficient in the preheating process. When induction heating and arc welding system is designed for thick plate with V-groove weld joint, the results in this paper could be applied.
Recently, the electro-magnetic induction process has been utilizing to substitute the flame heating process in shipyard. However, few studies have been performed to exactly analyze the deformation mechanism of the heating process with mathematical model. This is mainly due to the difficulty of modeling the inductor travelling on plate during the process. In this study, heat flux distribution of the process is firstly numerically analysed with the assumption that the process has a quasi-stationary state and also with the consideration that the heat source itself highly depends on the temperature of base plate. With the heat flux, the thermal and deformation analyses are then performed with a commercial program for 34 combinations of heating parameters. The deformations obtained and heating parameters are synthesized with a statistical method to produce simplified formulas, which easily give the relation between the heating parameters and deformations. The formulas are well compared with results of experiment.

Recently, the application of bending products has been increased since the industries such as automobile, aerospace, ships, and plants greatly need the usage of pipes. For facility fabrication, bending process is one of key technologies for pipings. Induction heat bending process is composed of bending deformation by repeated local heat and cooling. Because of local heating and compressive strain, detrimental phases may be precipitated and microstructural change can be induced. This work focused on the effect of induction heat bending process on the properties of ASME SA312 TP316 stainless steel. Evaluation was done on the base metal and the bended areas before and after heat treatment. Microstructure analysis, intergranular corrosion test including Huey test, double loop electropotentiokinetic reactivation test, oxalic acid etch test, and anodic polarization test were performed. On the base of microstructural analysis, grain boundaries in bended extrados area were zagged by bending process, but there were no precipitates in grain and grain boundary and the intergranular corrosion rate was similar to that of base metal. However, pitting potentials of bended area were lower than that of the base metal and zagged boundaries was one of the pitting initiation sites. By re-annealing treatment, grain boundary was recovered and pitting potential was similar to that of the base metal.
