Warp phenomenon seems to be ubiquitous among spiral galaxies, and a a number of mechanisms have been suggested as the origin including cosmic infall and tidal interactions. In this work, we compare warp characteristics of cluster spirals and the ones in the field in order to investigate the influence of environment on warping, in particular of gas disks. We make use of a tilted-ring modeling (TRM) method to VLA HI (21cm) data cubes of carefully selected 20 spiral galaxies in the Virgo cluster. The TRM allows us to probe kinematics, e.g., inclination, position angle, and velocity dispersion of HI disks. We compare the properties of each tilted-ring component to mean properties based on optical images. In this contribution, we present preliminary yet important findings on the warp characteristics of spiral galaxies in dense environment, and discuss possible origins of those kinematical structures.
PURPOSE. The study was conducted to compare the radiographic and clinical methods of measuring the horizontal condylar guidance (HCG) values. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The condylar guidance was measured using the radiographic (CT scan) and three clinical methods i.e. the wax protrusive records, Lucia jig record and intraoral central bearing device in 12 patients aged between 20-40 years irrespective of sex. The records were taken and transferred on the semi-adjustable articulator to record the HCG values. The CT scan was taken for 3D reconstruction of the mid facial region. Frankfort horizontal plane (FHP) and a line extending from the superior anterior most point on the glenoid fossa to the most convex point on the apex of articular eminence (AE) was marked on the CT scan. An angle between these two lines was measured on both right and left sides to obtain condylar inclination angle. Three interocclusal protrusive wax and jig records were taken and transferred to the semi adjustable articulator. Three readings were recorded on each side. Similarly the records were taken and transferred to the same articulator using the intra oral central bearing device to record the readings. RESULTS. The statistical analysis showed insignificant differences in the HCG values between the right and left sides [(P=.589 (CT), P=.928 (wax), P=.625 (jig), P=.886 (tracer)]. The clinical methods provided low Pearsons correlation values [(R = 0.423 (wax), R = 0.354 (jig), R = 0.265 (tracer)] for the right as well as the left sides when compared with the CT values. Among the clinical methods, jig and wax method showed strong level of association which is statistically significant while the intra-oral tracer showed weak association with the other two methods. CONCLUSION. The right and left HCG values were almost similar. The CT scan showed higher HCG values than the clinical methods and among the clinical methods, values obtained from all the methods were comparable.

This study was performed to establish the cephalometric standards and to compare measurement of Korean children in the Field I, II, III, IV, V, VI to Japanese and Caucasians by the Ricketts' analysis. Lateral cephalograms of 24 males and 27 females with normal occlusion and acceptable profile 9 years of age were obtained and statistically analyzed. 1. Norms of Korean males, females and both sexes at 9 years old were established. 2. Significant differences between male and female exist in incisor overjet, maxillary incisor protrusion, mandibular incisor inclination, cranial deflection, corpus length. Maxillary incisor of male was more protrude and overjet was larger than female 3. Korean was similar to Japanese but different from Caucasian. Compare with facial axis and facial depth, chin was retruded dolichofacial pattern and due to large mandibular plane angle and small corpus length, mandibular plane was inclined and mandible body was short. Compare with porion location, ramus position and posterior facial height, ramus was long and located posterior. Compare with maxillary depth and maxillary height, maxilla was located posterior and inferior. The distance between the upper molar and PTV was short, the amount of distalization is limited. Maxillary and mandibular incisor were more protruded and also lower lip was more protruded to esthetic line 4. In comparison between 9 and 11 years old, growth changes of facial depth, mandibular plane angle, corpus length and upper molar position were larger than that of Japanese and Caucasians.

Concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) system consists of high-quality complex optical elements, mechanical devices, and electronics components and can have the advantages of high integration and high-efficiency energy sources. III-V compound semiconductor cells have proven performance based on high reliability in the aerospace field, but have characteristics that require absolute support of the balance of systems (BOS) such as solar position trackers, receivers with heat sinks, and housing instruments. To determine the optimum parameters of secondary optical elements (SOEs) design for CPV systems, we designed three types of CPV modules, classified as non-SOEs type, reflective mirror type, and CPC lens type. We measured the I-V and P-V characteristics of the prototype CPV modules with the angle of inclination varying from 0° to 12° and with a 500-magnification Fresnel lens. The experimental results assumed misalignment of the solar position tracker or module design of pinpoint accuracy. As a result, at the 0° tilt angle, the CPC lens produced lower power due to the quartz transmittance ratio compared to that by other SOEs. However, for tilt angles greater than 3°, the CPC lens type module achieved high efficiency and stability. This study is expected to help design high-performance CPV systems.
When the revegetation of the slopes is required, it is more desirable to consider it from the ecological view point rather than from the disaster-preventive one because the environment is critical for the introduction of pioneer plants to the denuded slopes. The ecological point of view adheres to the maintenance of the present, original ecosystem of the construction area. The new revegetation technology is presented using native microorganisms and its effective usuage was discussed based on the data in the research field. Direct seeding is recommended and explained in detail than planting seedlings. The importance of inclination angle of slope face is shown for the successful revegetation from its relationship with the thickness of soil. It is indicated that the introduction of pilot plants to the slopes should include their ability to ease the acid rain effects as much as possible. Finally every construction may not be desirable for the maintenance and improvement of the global ecosystem without the consideration of the opinions mentioned above.
In clinical prosthetic dentistry the occlusal planes were represented to the dental arch form sagittally and composed of the occlusion morphologically. From now on the determinations of the occlusal planes were done through the facebow transfer and the cephalometric radiography, but they were not exact method for the diagnosis of the stomagnathic function. The purpose of this study is to examine the sagittal characteristics of occlusal planes using panoramic view between the normal subjects and the subjects with stomatognathic dysfunction. 60 normal subjects and 16 subjects with stomatognathic dysfunction were slectec for this investigation. We measured the inclination of occlusal planes to Frankfurt Horizontal plane. The occlusal planes were divided into 4 groups : 1) The plane between the midpoint of upper central incisor and the mesiobuccal cusp of upper 1st molar, 2) The plane between the midpoint of upper central incisor and the mesiobuccal cusp of upper 2nd molar, 3) The plane between the midpoint of upper central incisor and the distobuccal cusp of upper 2nd molar, 4) The plane between the mesiobuccal cusp of 1st molar and the distobuccal cusp of 2nd molar. The results were as follows : 1) The occlusal planes could be determined very easy by using panoramic view, 2) Among the angles between the occlusal planes and the FH plane, the angles related with the 2nd molar were more steep than those of the 1st molar. The angle between the 1st molar and the 2nd molar is the most steep in the other angles. 3) In the angles between occlusal planes and FH plane, the subjects with stomatognathic dysfunction were more significant steep(p<0.05) than the normal subjects.

This study was performed to compare the pattern of dentoalveolar characteristics in different vertical and anteroposterior skeletal types in skeletal Class III malocclusion. The samples selected for this study were consisted of 60 subjects(29 males and 31 females, mean age; 19.7 years) in Class III group, 43 subjects(14males and 29 females, mean age : 20.5 years) in normal group. The findings of this study were as follows : 1. The IMPA of the Class III group was smaller than that of the Class I group(p<0.01). 2. In the Class III groups, SNB and NtoPog had negative correlation with IMPA(p<0.01). The SNB and NtoPog had correlations with SNU1, FHU1 and PalU1(p<0.01) in the male samples, and in the female samples, the SNB and NtoPog had correlations with SNU1(p<0.01). 3. In the Class III male samples, SNMP, FMA, PalMP had negative correlation with IMPA(p<0.01). SNMP, FMA, PalMP had not significant correlation with SNU1, FHU1, PalU1. In the Class III female samples, FMA, PalMP had negative correlation with IMPA(p<0.01). 4. In the high angle group of Class III samples, SNU1, IMPA is smaller than that of low angle group of Class III samples(p<0.05).
The aim of this study was development of the Straight-Wire Appliance(SWA) suitable lot the treatment or Korean. To accomplish the object of this study, Korean adult with normal occlusion were selected with following criteria : 1) no functional abnormality in the craniofacial area, 2) good dental arch form and posterior occlusal relationship, 3) Angle Class I occlusal relationship, 4) no experience of orthodontic, nor prosthodontic treatment, especially, no dental treatment on labial and buccal surfaces of teeth, 5) good racial profile. Impression were taken for upper and lower dental arches or the selected normal occlusion samples and the orthodontic dental stone models were fabricated. 5 well-trained orthodontists had examined the acquired dental stone models to select study samples which satisfy the Six keys to optimal occlusion of Andrews. 155 pairs of dental stone models (92 pairs of Male, 63 of Female) were finally selected. 3 dimensional digitization were performed with the Coordinate Measuring Machine(CMM, MPC802, WEGU-Messtechnik, Germany) and measuring of Angulation, Inclination, In-and-Out, Molar offset angle and Arch form were accomplished with a measuring software to achieve data for the development of SWA. Before the measurement, error study was performed on the 3 dimensional digitization with CMM, and the analysis of reliability of computerized measuring method adapted in this study and conventional manual method Presented by Andrews was performed. Results of this study were as to)lows : 1. Equi-distance digitization with mesh size 0.25 mm, 0.5 mm and 1.0 mm were acceptable in 3 dimensional digitization of dental stone model with the CMM, and the digitization with 1.0 mm mesh size was recommendable in terms of efficiency. 2. Computerized measuring method with 3 dimensional digitization was more reliable than manual measuring method of Andrews. 3. Data were collected for the development of SWA suitable for the morphological characteristics of Korean with the computerized measuring method with 3 dimensional digitization.
This study was focused on the distribution of different facial types of the Class II division I malocclusion groups and skeletal characteristics of the each group and those that anteropsterior relationship of the maxilla and mandible calculated from the analysis of ANB angle and Wits appraisal was quite different from each other, as well. Cephalometric headplates of 140 persons of Class II division 1 malocclusion whose mean age was 11.2 years and 69 persons of normal occlusion whose mean age was 12.2 years were utilize as materials. Measurements were recorded, tabulated and statistically analyzed employing the tracings of the lateral cephalograms, then Class II division 1 malocclusion group was divided into 9 Types according to the angle of SNA and SNB for the anteroposterior relationship of the maxilla and mandible, another 9 Types according to the FH-NPog and SN-MP for the horisontal and vertical relationship, and the other 9 Types according to the ANB and Wits appraisal for intermaxillary relationship as well, with which was based on $Mean{\pm}$ 1SD of those of normal occlusion. The result allowed the following conclusion: 1. $37.1\%$ of population demonstrated maxilla within nounal range and retrognathic mandible to the cranial base, $30\%$ for both maxilla and mandible within normal range, $20\%$ for retrognathic maxilla and mandible and $12.9\%$ of the rest were ananged in Class II division 1 maloccusion groups. 2. Retrognathic mandible and hyperdivergent face accounted for $30.7\%$, mesognathic mandible and neutrodivergent face for $29.3\%$, mesognathic mandible and hyperdivergent face for $16.4\%$, retrognathic mandible and neutrodivergent face for $13.6\%$, mesognathic mandible and hypodivergent face for $10\%$ of population were computed in Class II division 1 malocclusion groups. 3. It was suggested that skeletal Class II malocclusion might be due to anomaly in size and shape of cranial base, underdevelopment of mandible, retropositioning of mandible, underdevelopment of posterior face against anterior face, or any combination of these factors. 4. Population with underdevelopment and / or retropositioning of the mandible showed hyperdivergent tendency of facia profile. 5. The ANB angle and Wits appraisal did not coincide the severity of anteroposterior dysplasia in $35.7\%$ of Class II division 1 malocclusion group each other, and this inconsistency was suggested to be related with mandibular rotation, inclination of cranial base, and anteroposterior position of the maxilla.
Objective: Treating Class II subdivision malocclusion with asymmetry has been a challenge for orthodontists because of the complicated characteristics of asymmetry. This study aimed to explore the characteristics of dental and skeletal asymmetry in Class II subdivision malocclusion, and to assess the relationship between the condyle-glenoid fossa and first molar. Methods: Cone-beam computed tomographic images of 32 patients with Class II subdivision malocclusion were three-dimensionally reconstructed using the Mimics software. Forty-five anatomic landmarks on the reconstructed structures were selected and 27 linear and angular measurements were performed. Paired-samples t-tests were used to compare the average differences between the Class I and Class II sides; Pearson correlation coefficient (r) was used for analyzing the linear association. Results: The faciolingual crown angulation of the mandibular first molar (p < 0.05), sagittal position of the maxillary and mandibular first molars (p < 0.01), condylar head height (p < 0.01), condylar process height (p < 0.05), and angle of the posterior wall of the articular tubercle and coronal position of the glenoid fossa (p < 0.01) were significantly different between the two sides. The morphology and position of the condyle-glenoid fossa significantly correlated with the three-dimensional changes in the first molar. Conclusions: Asymmetry in the sagittal position of the maxillary and mandibular first molars between the two sides and significant lingual inclination of the mandibular first molar on the Class II side were the dental characteristics of Class II subdivision malocclusion. Condylar morphology and glenoid fossa position asymmetries were the major components of skeletal asymmetry and were well correlated with the three-dimensional position of the first molar.
