In this study, the regeneration investigation for waste reverse osmosis membrane filters which were discarded after use for the household water purifiers has been carried out. Sodium hydroxide, sodium bisulfate, and ethylenediamine tetra acetic acid(EDTA). as the chemical cleaning agents were used. And they were in-situ cleaned with the micro-bubble generator as well. The best result was obtained when both 0.1% EDTA and micro-bubbles were used for 30 min cleaning. Thus, when the performance of the brand new RO membrane and restorated RO membrane were compared, the flux, 19.9%, the recovery ratio 45% were enhanced while the salt rejection was reduced for NaCl 100 mg/L solution, in other words, it has been recovered to the original brand new RO membrane filter. Also the removal of pollutants on membrane surface was confirmed in a naked eye through the scanning electron microscopy. Finally, this research has provided the possibility of the re-use of the waste RO membrane filters of household water purifier which were reclaimed or incinerated after use.

Permeability and its change due to a fluid injection in jointed rock mass is an important factor to be well identified for a safe and successful implementation of Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS), Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) projects which may accompany injection-induced hydromechanical deformation of the rock mass. In this technical report, we first reviewed important issues in evaluating initial permeability using borehole hydraulic tests and numierical approaches for understanding coupled hydromechanical properties of rock mass. Recent SIMFIP testing device to measure these hydromechanical properties directly through in-situ borehole experiments was also reviewed. The technical significance and usefulness of the device for further applications was discussed as well.

Recovery from potentially lethal damage (PLDR) after irradiation was studied in plateau-phase culture of Vero cells in vitro. Unfed plateau-phase cells were irradiated with dose of 1 to 9Gy using Cs-137 irradiator. Cells then were incubated again and left in situ for 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 24 hours and then were trypsinized explanted, and subcultured in fresh RPMI-1640 media containing $0.33\%$ agar. Cell survival was measured by colony forming ability. An adequate number of heavily irradiated Vero cells were added as feeder cells to make the total cell number constant in every culture dish. As the postirradiation in situ incubation time increased, surviving fraction increased by PLDR. The rate of PLDR was so rapid that increased surviving fraction reached saturation level at 2 to 4 hours after in situ incubation. As the radiation dose increased, the rate of PLDR fastened and the magnitude of increased surviving fraction at saturation level by PLOR also increased. In analysis of cell survival curve fitted to the linear-quadratic model, the linear inactivation coefficient $(\alpha)$ decreased largely and reached nearly to zero but the quadratic inactivation coefficient $(\beta)$ increased minimally by increment of postirradiation in situ incubation time. So PLDR mainly affected the damage expressed as $\alpha$, In the multitarget model, significant change was not obtained in $D_0\;but\;in D_q$. Therefore, shoulder region in cell survival curve was mainly affected by PLDR and terminal slope was not influenced at all. And dose-modifying factor by PLDR was relatively higher in shoulder region, that is, in low dose area below 3 Gy.

Conducting PPy/PVA composite and pure PPy gas sensors were prepared by in-situ vaporstate polymerization method in a vaporization chamber under N2 condition, by exposing the pre-coated electrode with PVA/FeC13 to distilled pyrrole monomer. The various electrical sensing behaviors of both types of sensors were systematically investigated by a flow measuring system including mass flow controller (MFC) and bubbling bottle. The FT-Raman spectroscopy of vapor state polymerized PPy was identical to that of chemically polymerized PPy, confirming the same chemical structure. Both types of sensors had positive sensitivity when exposed to methanol gas. The sensitivity varied linearly with gas concentration in the range of 50ppm to 1059ppm. The detection limit of PPy/PVA sensor was believed to be as low as 10ppm. The sensitivity of PPy/PVA composite sensor was higher than that of pure PPy sensor. Both the response time and recovery time of PPy/PVA composite sensors were longer than those of pure PPy sensors. The thickness of the sensing film affected the sensitivity this way that the sensor having thinner film had higher sensitivity, indicating that the resistance of polymer film involved in the sensing behavior was bulk resistance rather than surface resistance. The reproducibility of PPy/PVA composite sensor was excellent during eight on-off cycles by switching between N2 and 3000ppm methanol gas. The sensitivity of PPy/PVA composite sensor was only maintained for two weeks, while the sensitivity of pure PPy sensor was maintained over two months.
Purpose: Human adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells(hATSCs) can be differentiated into multiple mesenchymal lineages, including bone, cartilage, and muscle. And growth hormone play important roles in the normal growth and development of the CNS. In this study, we explored whether the transplanted hATSCs and growth hormones could improve functional recoveries from rats with contusive spinal cord injury. Methods: We divided 30 female rats, which were subjected to a weight driven implant spinal cord injury, into 3 groups with 10 rats each; Group A as a control group, group B with hATSCs transplantation on injured region, and group C with hATSCs transplantation and GH administration for 7 days. Then, we researched their neurologic functional recoveries before and 2, 4, and 8 weeks after transplantation using Basso-Beattie-Bresnahan (BBB) locomotor rating scale. And we checked Y-chromosome positive cells by FISH(Fluorescent in situ hybridization) to identify the survival of transplanted mesenchymal stem cells. Results: After 4 weeks of transplantation, the group B and group C showed significant improvement of neurologic function on BBB locomotor rating scale in comparison with the group A(Group A: $13.1{\pm}0.58$, Group B: $14.6{\pm}0.69$, Group C: $14.9{\pm}0.56$). Moreover, the group C displayed meaningful recovery of neurologic function after 8 weeks in comparison with group B (Group B: $15.7{\pm}0.63$, Group C: $16.5{\pm}1.14$). The group A, the control one, improved for 5 weeks after injury, and had no more recovery. On the other hand, Group B and C showed the improvement of neurologic function continuously for 9 weeks after injury. Conclusion: In this study, we found out that hATSCs transplantation have an effect on neurologic functional recovery of spinal cord injured rat and GH injection seems to bring the synergistic results on this good tendency.
In this study, a series of batch-scale tests were conducted to optimize the design parameters for the application of soil washing techniques to the hydrophobic organic compounds(HOCs)-contaminated soil and to find the effective methods for the recovery of surfactants from washing effluent by using solvent. Several nonionic surfactants (polyoxyethylene oleyl ester) and sophorolipid were applied to the artificially contaminated soil (4,000 mg n-dodecane/kg dry soil). The effects of washing time, concentration of surfactant solution, dilution ratio, and temperature on washing efficiencies were examined. Hydrophile-liphophile balance (HLB) number was proven to be one of the important parameters for soil washing. The HLB numbers of OA-5 and sophorolipid are too low to form a stable soil-water emulsion. They showed very low washing efficiencies less than 10e1o. If HLB number is in the proper range to form a stable soil-water emulsion, surfactant having higher solubility for HOCs shows higher washing efficiency. OA-14 having higher HLB number than OA-9 formed more stable soil-water emulsion. But its washing efficiency was about 20% due to a lower molar solubility ratio (MSR) than OA-9. OA-9, which forms a stable soil-water emulsion and has comparatively high sotubility for HOCs, showed about 60% washing efficiency by itself. To recover anthracene effectively from OA-9 washing effluent by using benzene as an organic solvent, desirable temperature and pH were $30^{\circ}C$ and 2, respectively.
It is difficult to accurately predict each flow rate of landfill gas and leachate extracted from many of wells, which have been completed into a waste landfill containing gas and water. However it may be approximately predicted if we can define only relative fluid permeability of gas and leachate flowing through landfill porous media. Therefore numerical simulation using multi-phase flow equations makes use of ei s input data of the relative permeability which is measured and calculated in laboratory environment like in-situ, and consequently we can quantitatively obtain each flow rate of gas and leachate from collection wells. These series of technologies can provide with the important informations to determine the success or failure of landfill gas energy and landfill stabilization. This paper analyses the characteristics of landfill gas collection by six classes of case studies for none described landfill.
Every day a huge amount of paper is being used, most of them are thrown after using. This directly impacts on the environment. Therefore, waste paper management is necessity to protect the environment from its annihilation and pollution. Paper recycling products consist of printing paper, newspaper, corrugated containers, magazine paper and so on. Reuse waste paper will reduce the consumption of wood and virgin pulp as recycling one ton of newsprint can save approximately 1 ton of wood, meanwhile recycling 1 ton of printing paper can save more than 2 tons of wood. With increasing recycling rates, lower quality paper fractions may be included. Thus the selection of a paper recycling technology is a crucial first design consideration. The paper recycling must be accompanied by appropriate technology to manage a huge volume of wastepaper. The specific objectives of this study were as follows: (1) comprehensive literature reviews of paper production and consumption, (2) figure out about paper recovery and utilization, (3) investigate the paper recycling in the sustainable times, (4) introduce eco-friendly recycling technology to paper industry.

Enantiopure styrene oxide derivatives are versatile building blocks for the synthesis of enantiopure pharmaceuticals. Styrene monooxygenase (SMO) catalyzes an asymmetric addition of an oxygen atom into a double bond of vinylaromatic compounds. SMO is a commercially potential biocatalyst to synthesize a variety of enantiopure epoxides with high enantiopurity and recovery yield. In this paper development of SMO biocatalyst and commercial feasibility of SMO-catalyzed asymmetric synthesis of enantiopure stylers oxide derivatives are reviewed.
