  • Effects of liquid crystal (LC) alignment using an in-situ photo-alignment method by linearly polarized UV exposure during imidization of polyirnide (PI) on the two kinds of PI surfaces with side chain were investigated. The generated pretilt angle in nematic (N) LC using an in-situ photo-alignment method was smaller than that of a conventional photo-alignment method for short UV exposure time. Also, the pretilt angle of the NLC using an in-situ photo-alignment method increases with increasing UV exposure time on the two kinds of the PI surfaces. Finally, the pretilt angle of NLC can be improved by annealing treatment.

  • Effects of liquid crystal (LC) alignment using a in-situ photoalignment method by polarized UV exposure on a polyimide (PI) surface with medium side chain were studied. The generated pretilt angle in nematic(N) LC using a in-situ photoalignment method was smaller than that of a conventional photoalignment method for short UV exposure time. Also, the pretilt angle of NLC using a in-situ photoalignment method increases with increasing UV exposure time on the PI surfaces. • The sound transmission loss is a key index to evaluate the acoustic performance of a car-body structure at the high frequency range. From this paper, a new validation method for in-situ sound transmission loss is proposed. First, in-situ sound transmission loss is measured by using PU intensity probe on the condition of complete vehicle. Second, validation test, which is consisted of internal, external and total frequency response function test, is performed by using volume acceleration source and microphones. Then, these test results are compared to validate the accuracy of in-situ sound transmission loss. Finally, the test result of in-site method is compared with results of two reverberant room test method and SEA analytical method. The reliability of in-situ method is confirmed by these procedures.

  • Alignment effects for nematic liquid crystal (NLC) using an in-situ photo-alignment method with obliquely polarized UV exposure on a polyirnide (PI) surface for homeotropic alignment were studied. The high pretilt angle in NLC can be measured by obliquely W exposure of $30^{\circ}$ on the PI surface for 10~20 min. The pretilt angle of NLC generated using the in-situ photo-alignment was higher than that of a conventional photo-alignment method.

  • Background: In situ gamma spectrometry has been used to measure environmental radiation, assumptions are usually made about the depth distribution of the radionuclides of interest in the soil. The main limitation of in situ gamma spectrometry lies in determining the depth distribution of radionuclides. The objective of this study is to develop a method for subsurface characterization by in situ measurement. Materials and Methods: The peak to valley method based on the ratio of counting rate between the photoelectric peak and Compton region was applied to identify the depth distribution. The peak to valley method could be applied to establish the relation between the spectrally derived coefficients (Q) with relaxation mass per unit area (${\beta}$) for various depth distribution in soil. The in situ measurement results were verified by MCNP simulation and calculated correlation equation. In order to compare the depth distributions and contamination levels in decommissioning KRR site, in situ measurement and sampling results were compared. Results and Discussion: The in situ measurement results and MCNP simulation results show a good correlation for laboratory measurement. The simulation relationship between Q and source burial for the source layers have exponential relationship for a variety depth distributions. We applied the peak to valley method to contaminated decommissioning KRR site to determine a depth distribution and initial activity without sampling. The observed results has a good correlation, relative error between in situ measurement with sampling result is around 7% for depth distribution and 4% for initial activity. Conclusion: In this study, the vertical activity distribution and initial activity of $^{137}Cs$ could be identifying directly through in situ measurement. Therefore, the peak to valley method demonstrated good potential for assessment of the residual radioactivity for site remediation in decommissioning and contaminated site.

  • The survival of Escherichia coli in river water was comparatively studied by laboratory and in sity study methods. The survival by two methods was evaluated as a function of E. coli strain, indigeneous predator, level of water pollution, and water temperature in different season. The survival rate of E. coli examined by laboratory method was lower than that by in situ method. That was found to be due to the fact that higher number of predator was maintained in labortory study than in in situ study. The survival rates of E. coli in gradually polluted river waters could be differentiated by in situ study, but not by laboratory study. Therefore, an in situ method rather than labortory method was thought to be a choice of study method for the survival of E. coli in river waters.

  • Genetic amniocenteses were performed in a series of 127 patients as a routine study. Samples from the patients were cultured by in situ method, flask method or both according to the state of amniotic fluid. The overall success rate of culture was 97.6% and no culture failure was observed in the flask method. It took 5 days first of all and 8.15 days average from set-up to harvest and there were 7.2 colonies per dish in in situ method. Therefore, it is suggested that in situ method which decreased the mean culture days and made clonal analyses possible, is a clinically available and even more reliable method in parallel with flask method in prenatal diagnosis.

  • We investigated the aligning capabilities for nematic liquid crystal (NLC) using a in-situ photodimerization method on various photopolymer surfaces. High Pretilt angle of the NLC can be measured by obliquely polarized UV exposure of 30$^{\circ}$on a photo-crosslinkable polyimide (PI) based polymer surface for 3 min. The pretilt angle of the NLC generated on the photopolymer surface using the in-situ photodimerization method was higher than that of a blending photopolymers (PI and cinnamate materials).

  • Aligning capabilities for nematic liquid crystal (NLC) using a in-situ photodimerization method on various photo-crosslinkable polyimide (PI) based polymer and blending photopolymer surfaces were stuided. High pretilt angle of the NLC can be measured by obliquely polarized UV exposure on a photo-crosslinkable polyirnide based polymer surface containing biphenyl (BP), decyl (de), and cholesteryl (chol) group, respectively, However, the low pretilt angle of the NLC was measured by obliquely polarized UV exposure on the blending photopolymer (PI and cinnamate materials) surfaces. Consequently, the pretilt angle of the NLC generated on the photo-crosslinkable polyimide based polymer surfaces using the in-situ photodimerization method was higher than that of the blending photopolymers.
