  • Individuals with problematic hypersexual behavior (PHB) evince the inability to control sexual impulses and arousal. Previous studies have identified that these characteristics are related to structural and functional changes in the brain region responsible for inhibitory functions. However, very little research has been conducted on the functional connectivity of these brain areas during the resting state in individuals with PHB. Therefore, this study used functional magnetic resonance imaging devices with the intention of identifying the deficit of the functional connectivity in the executive control network in individuals with PHB during the resting state. Magnetic resonance imaging data were obtained for 16 individuals with PHB and 19 normal controls with similar demographic characteristics. The areas related to the executive control network (LECN, RECN) were selected as the region of interest, and the correlation coefficient with time series signals between these areas was measured to identify the functional connectivity. Between groups analysis was also used. The results revealed a significant difference in the strength of the functional connectivity of the executive control network between the two groups. In other words, decreased functional connectivity was found between the superior/middle frontal gyrus and the caudate, and between the superior/middle frontal gyrus and the superior parietal gyrus/angular gyrus in individuals with PHB. In addition, these functional Connectivities related to the severity of hypersexual behavior. The findings of this study suggest that the inability to control sexual impulses and arousal in individuals with PHB might be related to the reduced functional connectivity of executive control circuits.

  • ECG widely used in cardiac function test is a graph that is recorded by measuring the electrical impulses occurred in the heart. Normal ECG has the form of similar sections that are repeated, and each section has the information occurred in a heart beat. Thus, In order to make the correct diagnosis, correct grasp of the sections and formed analysis must be done. In this research, a system that detects the sections of ECG is proposed. The system is based on ECG stored in the form of files. The ECG can easily have a noise caused by an outside factor. The noise of ECG is easily caused by external factors. Through a band-pass filter, it can be removed. and then, to get this ECG without a noise, interval detection algorithm using R-peak is applied. The clean, intuitive interface will help the above functions to be used without any difficulties.

  • Last blades of LP turbine in nuclear power plant are the highly damaged part and suffered from nozzle steam impulses during the turbine operation. Nozzle impulse is known as a common cause of damage or failure in the turbine blade and results from steam flow distortions due to uneven steam flow patterns between the stationary blade vanes. If impulse force was continuously acting on the blade for a long time, crack or wear will occur in weak parts such as root. So, it is important to know variation of nozzle impulse during the blade moving. But there is no way to measure and estimate the magnitude and direction of nozzle impulse. Therefore, this study was performed to know the variation of nozzle impulse force according to the positions of the blade and to obtain blade equivalent force and torque. This results can be used for blade stress estimation.

  • This paper examines the crisis of the protagonist's Jewish identity in Philip Roth's Portnoy's Complaint. Jewish values are centered on the philosophy of Judaism and Jewish history. Judaism is based on an ethical monotheism which is Bible-centered. It is characterized by its covenant with God, its humanism, and its emphasis on moral action. It provides essential reasons for man's existence and stresses human confidence and sufficiency. Jewish values can be found in words such as "good," "humanity," "dignity," "responsibility," and "sense of community." These positive Jewish values pervade Philip Roth's fiction paradoxically. Throughout especially Portnoy's Complaint, the protagonist fails to embrace Jewish values in contrast to Bellow or Malamud's heroes and repeat the same mistakes eliciting fits of laughter from readers. The protagonist suffers from his strongly-felt ethical and altruistic impulses perpetually warring with his extreme sexual longings against which he struggles. His desperation grows as he finds himself unable to channel his dissatisfaction and change his situations. His dominating mother and his confusion over Jewishness and Americanism are the main obstacles to his establishment of self-identity. He attempts to build up his gender identity and Jewish identity through his ego-centric sexual relationship with shikses(female gentiles). His inability to embody Jewish values leads to the failure to fulfill his identity. Roth paradoxically shows that the protagonist's realization of Jewishness is essential to the cure for his fragmented self.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of Gam-ki (double-arm winding) depending on the emotion being expressed. Gam-ki is one of the basic movements of Korean traditional dance. Method : We selected three Korean traditional dancers who belong to National Dance Company of Korea. They were asked to express four different emotions (anger, joy, sadness, and neutral) while performing Gam-ki. We analyzed elapsed time and time ratio, size of movement, ground reaction forces and ground impulses. Results : During Gam-ki the elapsed time for each phase as well as for one cycle was longest when "sadness" was expressed then followed by "neutral" and then "angry" and "joy." Except for the ankle in/eversion, the ROMs of the lower limb joints seem not to be an emotion-characteristic factor. The ROMs of the upper limb joints were largest when "anger" was expressed. Neck rotation is associated with expressing negative emotions ("angry" and "sadness"). For medial-lateral GRF "angry"> "joy" > "neutral" > "sadness" was in order. Therefore, it can be regarded as a factor indicating the activity of the emotion.

  • The hypo-salinity effects on fertilized eggs, embryos and larvae were investigated in olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) obtained from hatcheries in Cheju-Island, Yeosu and Chungnam. Those were treated to eight concentration; 0, 3.4, 6.7, 10.1, 13.4, 20.2, 27.4 and 33.6 ‰. It was not discrepancy in the survival rate and hatching success rate of fertilized embryos obtained from different regions. Also, in the larvae, the regional difference was not appeared. The survival rate and hatching ability of embryos significantly diminished in the lower groups than 13.4 ‰ compared to 33.6 ‰. After fertilization, namely embryos are tolerant of a wide range of salinity (13.4 - 33.6 ‰). Reduced salinity induced an increase of the malformed embryo and larvae including various deformities; irregular embryos membrane (or yolk sac depression), fin erosion and swim bladder inflation in the flounder embryo. The hatching success of embryos was significantly reduced in lower salinity than 13.4 ‰. Notably, the reduction of larval survival rate significantly was observed in ≤10.1 ‰ treated groups with the same manner of survival rates of the embryos. Additionally, olive flounder was found to be adequate model for measuring external impulses because there are no the regional differences.

  • Sulphur-hexafluoride has extensively been used as an insulating gas of electric power equipment in substation for its high dielectric strength, non-toixity and non-flammable properties. But it is very expensive and is liquidizable under the condition of low temperature and high pressure. And it is very sensible to the locally high electric field strength. To resolve these problems, we studied 50% FOV and V-t characteristics of $SF_6-N_2$ mixtures under positive and negative lightning impulses using a 25mm rod-plane gap. 50% FOV of $SF_6-N_2$ 50% mixture was about 85% of pure $SF_6$ and it was known that $SF_6-N_2$ mixtures can be used as an economic substitution insulating gas for $SF_6$.

  • Effects of blasting vibrations on curing concrete have not been well studied. As a result, unreasonable and strong blasting vibration constraints have been placed on blasting when it occur in the vicinity of curing concrete. To study the effects of blasting on curing concrete blocks of $33.3{\times}27.7{\times}16.2cm$ were molded and placed on the quarry. Several sets of concrete blocks were subjected separately to peak vibrations of 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 5.0 and 10cm/sec. The impulses of blasting vibrations were applied with thirty-minute intervals. Along with unvibrated concrete blocks, the vibrated concrete samples cored with 60.3mm in diameter were measured for elastic moduli, sonic velocity and uniaxial compressive strength. Test results can be summarized as follows; 1. The blasting vibrations between 6 and 8 hours after pour generally lowered on the uniaxial compressive strength of the concrete. 2. A low blasting vibration of 0.25cm/sec did not affect the uniaxial compressive strength. As the magnitude of the blasting vibration increases, compressive strength of concrete is decreased. 3. Physical properties of the P-wave velocity, Young’s modulus, and Poisson's ratio showed a weakly decreasing trend in the concrete blocks vibrated between 6 and 8 hours after pour.

  • A dolescence can be defined as the period between pubescence and physical maturity, and the passage through adolescence(age of 12-19) forms a critical period. Major developmental tasks of adolescence are construction of an emancipated identity, realistic ambitions, and reasonable ideals, and the further development of sexual and social identities. In early adolescence one struggles to adjust psychologically to the spurt in growth and tensions filled with sexual and aggressive impulses. There are reshuffling of peer groups due to differing rates of maturation, early adolescence crushes, sublimation of sexuality, and the resurgence of oedipal feelings. One reaches so-called period of formal operations in cognitive development. In mid-adolescence one struggles to overcome family attachments and controls, and it is a time marked by revolt and conformity. One has to overcome sexual repression while caught in reactivation of oedipal attachment. Peer groups gains in importance, and the peer group changes into a youth group that carries the youth culture. Late adolescence is a period of achieving an ego identity and capacities for intimacy. One has to prevent premature closure : Identity foreclosure limits both opportunity and the ability to guide one's own life. Gradually adolescent begins to have a loss self-centered and narcissistic orientation to one's sexual and affectional needs, and becomes involved in love relationship.
