  • A high-impulse, low-power, digital microthruster has been developed using low-boiling-temperature liquid propellant with high-viscosity fluid plug. The viscous fiction force of the fluid plug increases the blast pressure and the low-boiling-temperature liquid propellant is intended to reduce input power consumption. The three-layer microthruster has been fabricated by surface micromachining as well as bulk micromachining in the size of 7$\times$13$\times$1.5㎣. A digital output impulse bit of 6.4$\times$10$^{-8}$ Nsec has been obtained from the fabricated microthruster using perfluoro normal hexane (FC72) propellant and oil plug, resulting in about ten times increase of the impulse bit using one hundredth electrical input energy compared to the conventional multiple-shot microthruster.

  • A high-impulse, low-power, continuous-shot microthruster has been developed using low boiling temperature liquid-propellant with high viscous fluid-plug. The viscous friction force of the fluid-plug increases the blast pressure and the low boiling temperature liquid-propellant is intended to reduce input power consumption. The three-layer microthruster has been fabricated by surface micromachining as well as bulk micromachining in the size of $7{\times}13{\times}1.5mm^{3}$. • Performance of Secondary Injection Thrust Vector Control system is investigated under various secondary injection operating conditions. 3-dimensional converging-diverging nozzle having 8 secondary injection nozzles is used in this numerical study. Total pressure of flow inside the nozzle is about 70bars, and total temperature set to 300K for cold flow simulation. Effect of secondary injection flow rate and injection nozzle configuration is considered in this research. Simulation is conducted with commercial CFD code Ansys Fluent v13. Spalart-Allmaras(1-equation)model is used for turbulence modeling with AUSM+ scheme. Various performance factors as Axial thrust, side force, system specific impulse ratio are considered and explained for system performance evaluation.

  • Usual human gait can be modeled as continual impact phenomenon that happens due to the topological change of the kinematic structure of the two feet. The human being adapts his own control algorithm to minimize the ill effect due to the collision with the environment. In order to operate a Humanoid robot like the human being, it is necessary to understand the physics of the impact and to derive an analytical model of the impact. In this paper, specially, we focus on impact analysis of the kicking motion in playing soccer. At the instant of impact, the external impulse exerted on the ball by the foot is an important property. Initially, we introduce the complete external impulse model of the lower-extremity of the human body and analyze the external impulses for several kicking postures of the lower-extremity. Secondly, a trajectory-planning algorithm of a ball, in which the initial velocity and the launch angle of the ball are calculated for a desired trajectory of the ball, will be introduced. The aerodynamic effect such as drag force and lift force is also considered. We carry out numerical simulation and experimentation to verify the effectiveness of the proposed analytical methodology.

  • The aim of the study was a quantitative analysis of elite athlete's $540^{\circ}$ Dwihuryeochagi and effects of ground movements to the jumping height and kicking velocity. Eleven elite players(Taekwondo demonstration team) participated in this study. In order to get the kinetic and kinematic variables, ten Vicon cameras and a force plate were used. Foot segment velocity(FSV), vertical ground reaction force(GRF), impulse, ground time(GT) in phase 1, trunk angular velocity(TAV), vertical center of gravity(COG), flight time(FT) in phase 2 and kicking leg segment velocity(KSV) in phase 3 were measured and analyzed. Results indicated that there were similar patterns of variables among phases between subjects. Non-significant correlation(r=.145) between flight time(FT) and impulse was found. Also non-significant correlation(r=.119) between center of gravity(COG) and impulse was found. In conclusions, there were similar strategies in phase 1, phase 2, and phase 3 between subjects.

  • The dynamic simulation of slider in hard disk drive is performed using Factored Implicit Finite Difference method. The modified Reynolds equation with Fukui and Kaneko model is employed as a governing equation. Equations of motion for the slider of three degrees of freedom are solved simultaneously with the modified Reynolds equation. The transient responses of the slider for disk step bumps and slider impulse forces are shown for various cases and are compared for the iteration algorithm and new algorithm.

  • In this study, the optimal dynamic isolation system for gas operated combat weapon has been investigated. For this purpose, firstly, the dynamic behavior of human induced by firing operations has been analyzed through a series of experimental works using the devised test setup. The characteristics of linear impulse has been compared under some conditions of support system. In order to design the optimal dynamic isolation system, parameter optimization process has been performed based on the simplified isolation system under constraints of moving displacement and transmitted force. Finally, the performance of the designed dynamic absorbing system has been evaluated by simulation.

  • A low-recoil direct gun is useful in reducing the fire impulse generated by using a traditional shell. To apply a control equation to an AMESim Model, we have formulated a control equation for a recoil mechanism from the free object diagram. By modeling this equation, we have been able to compare the recoil distance and recoil force of a low-recoil direct gun. Here, we can analyze the recoil characteristics between traditional direct guns and low-recoil direct guns with perforated muzzle brakes. It is possible to mount a low-recoil direct gun with a perforated muzzle brake on a lightweight tracked vehicle by reducing its fire impulse.

  • A numerical dynamic simulation is necessary to investigate the capacity of the HDD. The slider surface become more and more complicated to make the magnetized area smaller and readback signal stronger. So a numerical dynamic simulation must be preceded to develop a new slider in HDD. The dynamic simulations of air-lubricated slider bearing have been peformed using FIFD(Factored Implicit Finite Difference) method. The governing equation, Reynolds equation Is modified with Fukui and Kaneko model(FK model) which includes the first and the second-order slip. The equations of motion for the slider bearing are solved simultaneously with the modified Reynolds equation for the case of three degrees of freedom. The slider transient response for disk step bump and slider impulse force is given for various case and for iteration algorithm and new algorithm.

  • In this study, the experiment was conducted on a fire door(W × H = 0.98 m × 2.19 m) installed on the vestibule. The effective leakage area for each opening angles and closing forces derived from the impulse-momentum equation was compared and analyzed with the experimental results. As a result of the experiment, the major factors affecting the door closing forces were the pressure difference and the area of the door. The difference of door closing forces between measured and calculated values by the impulse-momentum equation showed a deviation of less than ±15% at the opening angles of 5°to 10°. At the door opening angle of 2.5°, the dynamic pressure was much higher than the measured static pressure, and this pressure difference is estimated to be air resistance acting to prevent the door from being completely closed.
