  • Various computer-based learning programs have been developed in recent year. However, their quality has not been improved significantly. One major reason for little improvement on the quality is that most programs did not use an evaluation method to improve the quality of a programs. This paper is to introduce various evaluation methods such as evaluating a program by one expert, by a team of several experts, by a learner, by a small group of learners, by several learners and experts, by a focus group, and etc... These methods could improve the quality as well as increase the effectiveness of a programs. The effectiveness of each program will be increased by applying an appropriate evaluation method according to various factors such as time, cost. or learners.

  • South Korea's rapid ageing and the fast increase of nuclear families have led to the social isolation of the elderly and generational conflicts. In order to solve these social problems, this study explores the ways in which different generations can communicate and interact more actively. We surveyed 110 social workers who run generation-integrated programs at community centers in Gyeonggi province, and also examined the spatial design of the four age-integrated community centers and analysed its effect on the intergenerational exchange. We propose several suggestions for intergenerational exchange programs and effective space planning to facilitate intergenerational interactions in multi-generational community centers. To develop intergenerational interactions and keep their constant relationship, the users of community centers should be the core of generation-integrated programs which can facilitate the intergenerational exchange and interactions.

  • Korea owns vast amount of apartment houses no less than those of world prominent countries, but did not pay enough efforts to maintain existing apartment houses and develop policies to reuse them due to growth driven policy of housing supply like construction of new houses. Korea constructed tremendous amount of houses in short period through government led forced house supplying policy, and resulted in excess houses such that present house supply rate happened to be reaching 110%. However, recently there are growing demand of change in housing policy due to social environmental changes like low birth rate and aging of society etc and nationals' demand for improvement of residential quality. When such social changes are demanded and 80% of apartment houses in Korea are less than 20 years old, renovations and remodeling of apartment houses are anticipated to emerge as important matter. In particular, the apartment houses in Seoul and the 1st generation new cities like Bundang and Ilsan etc have passed considerable period of time after construction and require safety measure, it is quite impending to loan programs for the maintenance of existing apartment houses. The objective of this study is to compare and analyze the system of loan programs about apartment houses of Japan, and then to propose to accelerate loan programs about maintenance for apartment houses in korea.

  • This paper analyzes the current state of operation and the effect of introduction of the single accreditation system, which was fully introduced in 2016 by the Accreditation Board of Engineering Education Korea(ABEEK). Because Engineering Education Accreditation are program-based certification, and department operates accreditation programs and non-accreditation programs, if a student under the accreditation program fails to graduate from the accreditation program, he or she must complete the transfer to a non-accreditation program at least one year before graduation. Since 2016, when the single accreditation system was introduced, freshmen of department have allowed non-accreditation graduation only for reasons prescribed separately by the program's regulations or guidelines. In order to identify and reflect the operational status and effectiveness of the single accreditation system in the 2020 accreditation review, ABEEK conducted a complete survey on the current status of graduates in February 2020 among 157 programs at 26 universities receiving the 2020 accreditation review. The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data for the improvement of the single accreditation system in the future by examining the effects of the single accreditation system implemented after 2016 and considering the problems at the site due to the introduction of the single accreditation system of programs that ABEEK had not previously expected.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for developing an educational program that can be practically applied in the field of survival swimming education. Research design, data, and methodology: This study reviewed prior literature including governmental reports, journal articles related to survival swimming programs at home and abroad. Based on the basic data collected through literature, domestic and foreign educational institutions and national educational programs were cataloged and analyzed. Results: The study found that among the goals of swimming education, the prevention of water accidents and the cultivation of water safety skills along with improving swimming ability are very important educational goals. Currently, domestic survival swimming education programs are divided into classes and training sessions, so it is necessary to develop an educational program according to each individual's swimming ability and a unified and systematic program through education for each level of survival swimming learners. Conclusions: It is thought that the reinforcement of the leader's capacity for quality improvement will have a positive effect for the development of survival swimming. Further implications were discussed.

  • Rural life improvement has remained a key policy concern for the governments of most developing countries. However, developing countries mostly focused on agricultural productivity and technology development while implementing rural development policies. This paper was aimed at constructing the trends and identify the major tasks implemented through the rural life improvement programs in Korea and describing rural development efforts in Ethiopia after the Second World War. The data was generated through an intensive review of literature and focus group interview in Korea. The two countries in general and their rural areas in particular, were poor and almost similar initially. While the condition of rural Korea rapidly transformed since 1960s, rural Ethiopia has not yet experienced major improvement. Although different rural development efforts have been made in Ethiopia, erratic policies implemented by the different political regimes across time emerge to be one of the main factors behind the poor performance of the of the rural sector. Further, while the Korean government's rural development policy gave equal emphasis to improvement of agricultural production base as well as rural life improvement right from its inception, the Ethiopian rural development policy has rather neglected the rural life improvement aspect. Diversification of rural economy was also another priority area in Korea's rural development policy through agro-processing, rural tourism, and non-farm employment opportunities whereas this has not been the case in Ethiopia's rural development policy. We suggest some lessons that Ethiopia might adapt for its rural life improvement endeavors.

  • This study examined the qualities of an effective teacher needed to accomplish educational reform successfully and prepare for a rapidly changing knowledge-based society. To achieve the purpose of the study, the following specific questions were looked into; (1) knowledge, skills, attitude of an effective teacher. (2) a proposal for staff development programs to improve the effectiveness of teachers. (3) a proposal to support teachers' efforts to improve their effectiveness. (4) the factors inhibiting the improvement of teachers' effectiveness. In this study, 'in-depth interview' was used for data collection because the study deals with the "subjective consciousness" of teachers, and qualitative research methods are useful to such a case. The research was done on teachers from secondary schools in Pusan City. According to the teachers interviewed, an effective teacher needed in the new age has such knowledge, skills, and attitude as; (1) knowledge in their major, general culture and common sense, psychology of educational counselling, social science, and knowledge and information related to curriculum. (2) effective instruction skills, skills to guide student behavior, skills related to administrative clerical work, using the computers, extra curriculum activities, educational evaluation, using teaching materials, developing educational programs, and good communication skills. (3) attitude relevant to willingness to understand and converse with students at their cognitive level, positive expectations and concern toward students, democratic problem solving, continuous self-study and development, thoroughgoing mission and professionalism, will for educational reform and innovation, neat appearance and refined language, and successful interpersonal relationships. The teachers also said that the current staff development system, as a program to provide necessary qualities for teachers, has improved in the last 3 years through diverse curriculum and systematic programs. However, due to the problematic promotion system, the staff development program has turned into just a 'point collecting' game from the role of in-service training program; teachers take training courses as the means just collecting points for promotion purpose. Factors inhibiting the improvement of teachers are (1) overload of formal paperwork over emphasizing outcome, (2) mannerism of teachers not perceiving their lack of professionalism, (3) the general attitude in the teaching profession resisting change and reform, (4) supervisory activities lacking rigid regulation, (5) research just as the means of point-collection only for promotion, and (6) staff development programs lacking efficiency. These factors, interacting each other, inhibited the improvement of teachers.
