  • While it is known that the weld toe grinding method may give 3.4 times of fatigue strength improvement, this improvement may significantly vary according to weld bead shapes and loading modes. Although tremendous interest have been given in improving fatigue strength improvement for ship structures, quantitative results are yet in need. In this context, a series of fatigue tests is carried out for a type of test specimen that are typically found in ship structures. Weld burr grinding is carried out using a electric grinder in order to remove surface defects and improve the weld bead profile. The test results are compared with the same type of test specimen without applying the fatigue improvement technique in order to obtain a quantitative measure of the fatigue strength improvement. On the other hand, both hot spot stress and structural stress methods are employed to compare the effectiveness of the two methods in evaluating the fatigue strength improvement of welded structures.

  • Many of the current successful commercial recommender systems utilize collaborative filtering techniques. This technique recommends products to the active user based on product preference history of the neighbor users. Those users with similar preferences to the active user are typically named his/her neighbors. Hence, finding neighbors is critical to performance of the system. Although much effort for developing similarity measures has been devoted in the literature, there leaves a lot to be improved, especially in the aspect of handling subjectivity or vagueness in user preference ratings. This paper addresses this problem and presents a novel similarity measure using fuzzy logic for selecting neighbors. Experimental studies are conducted to reveal that the proposed measure achieved significant performance improvement.

  • The objective of this study is to select reward measure of improved business results. Grain sharing is defined as a compensation system that is designed to provide for variable compensation and to support an employee involvement process by rewarding the members of a group or organization for improvements in organizational performance. Gains, as measured by a predetermined formula, are shared with all eligible employees, typically through the payment of cash bonuses. Generally sales, profit, value-added, cost reduction portion and otherthings have been used as gains, otherwise improved business results, without any proof which is correlated to productivity improvement. This paper suggests which business result is fit reward measure for each business types and sizes.

  • The shielding enclosure is very essential device to test the electromagnetic wave power generated by various RF equipments. Some standards for the shielding enclosures were established to test them in right method. Generally, There are IEEE-STD-299 and MIL-STD-285 and NSA-65-6 of the method for measuring the effectiveness of shielding enclosures, the IEEE-STD-299 combined MIL-STD-285 and NSA-65-6 about the method for measuring shielding effectiveness(SE) about 1969 years, but, the measurement point of 299 proposal is many points(including shielding wall, seam, coner beat, shielding door, etc) and demand long time of measurement. To improve SE test method for shielding enclosures was studied and suggested to develop a proper test procedure. First, we measure reference level as frequency range and H/V polarization, secondly, measure leakage point, and finally, measure shield effect and calculate SE. Our method has a merit of the less measurement point than IEEE-STD-299, and shorten time than 299, and define representation SE of shielding enclosure effectively.

  • A measure for service quality of university dormitory is developed to gain a better understanding of the quality issues that impact on students' experiences and to improve service quality. Literature survey, thorough discussion with staff members and a pilot test are utilized to elicit attributes of service quality. Factor analysis is used to group the service quality attributes into dimensions. The resulting measure is consisted of 6 dimensions; competence, attitude, facility, amenity, security and discipline. Importance-performance analysis is utilized to verify which factors to be focused on with high Priority to improve dormitory service.

  • The imputation of monetary value of women's contribution to the informal economy for inclusion in satellite accounts to the formal System of National Accounts has been attempted along many methods. This is bases on official laborforce statistics and time-use survey. In this statistical system, household work is not an economic activity(or productive labor). Also, the clssification of activities involved in household work is different from that of sampling survey relating evaluation. The measurement of women's unpaid work is one of the important tasks for the improvement of women's status and the establishment of a development policy. To measure unpaid work in the economic terms, we should take following measures; 1) develop satellite or other official accouts to measure unpaid work outside national accounts. 2) conduct a nation-wide time-use survey to measure the unpaid work. 3) develp a proper classificaition of activities for time-use statistics. 4) reexamine the minimum time criterion. 5) determine a proper method of valuing along the law system.

  • A roughing process is the one of most important shoe manufacturing processes. Especially, it is indispensable to manufacture the leather shoes such as dress shoes, safety shoes, golf shoes, etc. The roughing process relies greatly on the operator's skill and experience. Therefore, the automation of roughing process is necessary to establish the improvement of productivity. We are trying to develop the Automatic Roughing Machine controlled by NC. As pre-study to do this, we need to measure the roughing path for NC, because there is no study on this pan and no reference about this. In this study, we proposed the 3-Dimensional Scanner System to measure the roughing path with new concept. The developed 3-D scanner System generates the roughing path using the 3 images obtained from 3 CCD cameras. The experimental results show that the proposed system can measure accurately the roughing path.

  • Spectral clustering has become a typical and efficient clustering method used in a variety of applications. The critical step of spectral clustering is the similarity measurement, which largely determines the performance of the spectral clustering method. In this paper, we propose a novel spectral clustering algorithm based on the local similarity measure of shared neighbors. This similarity measurement exploits the local density information between data points based on the weight of the shared neighbors in a directed k-nearest neighbor graph with only one parameter k, that is, the number of nearest neighbors. Numerical experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate that our proposed algorithm outperforms other existing spectral clustering algorithms in terms of the clustering performance measured via the normalized mutual information, clustering accuracy, and F-measure. As an example, the proposed method can provide an improvement of 15.82% in the clustering performance for the Soybean dataset.

  • In this paper, we proposed ACM (Anti-filler confidence measure) to compensate shortcoming of conventional RLJ-CM (RLJ-CM) and NCM (normalized CM), and integrated proposed ACM and conventional NCM using HCM (hybrid CM). Proposed ACM analyzes that FA (false acceptance) happens by the construction method of anti-phone model, and presumed phoneme sequence in actuality using phoneme recognizer to compensate this. We defined this as anti-phone model and used in confidence measure calculation. Analyzing feature of two confidences measure, conventional NCM shows good performance to FR (false rejection) and proposed ACM shows good performance in FA. This shows that feature of each other are complementary. Use these feature, we integrated two confidence measures using weighting vector α And defined this as HCM. In MDR (missed detection rate) 10% neighborhood, HCM is 0.219 FA/KW/HR (false alarm/keyword/hour). This is that Performance improves 22% than used conventional NCM individually.
