  • The Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrometer (IGRINS) is an unprecedentedly minimized infrared cross-dispersed echelle spectrograph with a high-resolution and high-sensitivity optical performance. A silicon immersion grating features the instrument for the first time in this field. IGRINS will cover the entire portion of the wavelength range between 1.45 and $2.45{\mu}m$ accessible from the ground in a single exposure with spectral resolution of 40,000. Individual volume phase holographic (VPH) gratings serve as cross-dispersing elements for separate spectrograph arms covering the H and K bands. On the 2.7m Harlan J. Smith telescope at the McDonald Observatory, the slit size is $1^{\prime\prime}{\times}15^{\prime\prime}$. IGRINS has a $0.27^{\prime\prime}$ pixel-1 plate scale on a $2048{\times}2048$ pixel Teledyne Scientific & Imaging HAWAII-2RG detector with SIDECAR ASIC cryogenic controller. The instrument includes four subsystems; a calibration unit, an input relay optics module, a slit-viewing camera, and nearly identical H and K spectrograph modules. The use of a silicon immersion grating and a compact white pupil design allows the spectrograph collimated beam size to be 25mm, which permits the entire cryogenic system to be contained in a moderately sized rectangular vacuum chamber. The fabrication and assembly of the optical and mechanical hardware components were completed in 2013. In this presentation, we describe the major design characteristics of the instrument and the early performance estimated from the first light commissioning at the McDonald Observatory.

  • In order to minimize the deterioration of osmotic dried apple quality, the characteristics of mass transfer during osmotic dehydration such as solid gain(SG), weight reduction(WR) and moisture loss(ML) were investigated. Moisture and solid transfer were analyzed by Fick's law. The highest (equation omitted)E value was observed with severe browning at $60^{\circ}C.$ The concentration effect on (equation omitted)E were higher at high temperatures than at low temperatures. SG, WR and ML increased as immersion temperature, sugar concentration and immersion time increased. Higher concentration of sucrose led to more sucrose absorption resulting increase in SG. Diffusion coefficients of moisture increased with immersion temperature and sugar concentration. As concentration increased, diffusion coefficients of solids increased at $20^{\circ}C$ while it decreased at $40^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C.$ Arrhenius equation was appropriately explain the effect of temperature on diffusion coefficients. Moisture and solid diffusion showed high activation energy in 20 。Brix solution, compared with in 40 and 60 。Brix.

  • Sex steroids are generally considered as natural sex inducers in fish, and aromatase (cytochrome P450 aromatase) that catalyzes androgens into estrogens in the steroidogenic pathway is also known to be involved in sex differentiation. The timing of aromatase action is, thus, of central importance in the study of fish sex differentiation. We treated sexually undifferentiated tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) larvae with $Fadrozole^{TM}$, a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor (AI), by immersing the fish in a solution containing AI during the sex differentiation period to narrow down the critical period of aromatase action. Fish were treated once at 11 or 13 days post fertilization (dpf), or twice at 11 and 13 dpf. The concentrations of AI at each time of the treatment were 0 mg/L (control), 50 mg/L or 100 mg/L. Survival rate was not statistically associated with AI immersion treatment (p>0.25). However, sex ratio was significantly altered by the treatment, with higher concentration and double immersion being more effective in masculinizing genetic females (p<0.05). These results suggest that aromatase action for sex differentiation in this fish species would begin at least from 11 dpf which is much earlier than previously expected, and that only 3 hours of brief immersion in AI solution is powerful enough to alter genetically programed sex.

  • As an experimental study on the corrosion behavior of steel materials to which ATMS method using EIS was applied in concrete, immersion of Ca(OH)2 saturated aqueous solution and NaCl aqueous solution simulating the environment inside concrete The corrosion behavior was tested. The equivalent circuit was derived through the analysis of the Nyquist plot, and the interfacial resistance and the polarization resistance of the Ca(OH)2 aqueous solution were compared, and Al ATMS was the best interfacial resistance and Zn ATMS was the best polarization resistance. After burying ATMS steel material of cement mortar, the initial immersion impedance measurement value was the highest in the Zn ATMS test body in the impedance measurement by the immersion time by immersing it in the NaCl aqueous solution. Al ATMS test piece has the highest impedance and is highly reliable. This is because Al, which has a high ionization tendency, is continuously oxidized in a strong alkaline environment to form a film and protect the steel from permeation of chlorine ions.

  • Effects of $17{\alpha}$-methyltestosterone ($17{\alpha}-MT$) in rearing water on sex reversal of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) were investigated and optimum conditions as initial treatment time, concentrations and treatment durations of hormone were evaluated in this study. For the study of the optimum initial treatment time, 0 to 20-day-old fry were treated by immersion in a 500 ppb solution of $17{\alpha}-MT$. Desirable results were obtained at 12-day-old fish as $86.4\%$ of male induction rates and this frequency was obviously higher than the other age groups. Twelve-day-old fry were immersed in $17{\alpha}-MT$ solutions at concentrations of $0\~2,000$ ppb for 24 hours for the study of dose dependent relationship between sex ratios and concentrations of $17{\alpha}-MT$, Male induction rates of all treated groups were higher than $80\%$, $X^2$ values against the sex ratio of control group indicate that sex reversal has taken place effectively in all experimental groups (P<0.001). Futhermore, 500 ppb treated groups showed highest male incidence of $86.4\%$. Effects of 5 different durations (0, 12, 18, 24 and 30 hours) treated with 1,000 ppb of $17{\alpha}-MT$ were also evaluated. Male induction rate from 0 to 24 hours treated group was increased with treatment durations. However, male incidence of 30-hour treated group ($84.0\%$) was sligthly decreased compare to the 24-hour treated group ($85.2\%$). It is concluded that immersion treatment using $17{\alpha}-MT$ on O. niloticus is possible on sex reversal at low concentration of 500 ppb and short treatment durations within 24 hours with 12-old-day fry.

  • This study was focused on the feasibility of ultrasonic bonding of Au stud flip chip bumps on the flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) with three different surface finishes: organic solderability preservative (OSP), electroplated Au and electroless Ni/immersion Au (ENIG). The Au stud flip chip bumps were successfully bonded to the bonding pads of the FPCBs, irrespective of surface finish. The bonding time strongly affected the joint integrity. The shear force increased with increasing bonding time, but the 'bridge' problem between bumps occurred at a bonding time over 2 s. The optimum condition was the ultrasonic bonding on the OSP-finished FPCB for 0.5 s.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the shaping time of two shaping methods and the leakage of three different obturation techniques. Ninty three canaled human molar teeth were used, which were randomly divided into two groups of forty teeth each and ten control teeth. After working length determination, the one group was prepared crown-down technique using rotary root canal instruments of GT rotary files .12/20, .10/20, .08/20 and .06/20 taper(Maillefer Instrument SA. Switzerland). The other group was instrumented with Gates Glidden burs(#1, #2, and #3) to coronal preparation and GT rotary files .08/20 and .06/30 taper to apical preparation. Shaping time was measured. After root canals were instrumented, they were divided to three subgroups and obturated as follows : Subgroup 1, obturated with single cone method Subgroup 2, obturated with lateral condensation : Subgroup 3, obturated with continuous wave technique. Three subgroups were obturated using non-standardized gutta-percha cone(Diadent, Korea, .06 or .08 taper) and AH-26(Dentsply DeTrey, Germany) as a root canal cement. Ten unobturated teeth served as positive and negative controls. After immersion in 2% methylene blue solution for 1 month, the teeth were washed during 24h. The teeth were demineralized in 10% nitric acid and dehydrated by immersion in 80, 90 and 100% ethyl alcohol. The teeth were finally cleared and stored in 100% methylsalicylate, and apical dye penetration was evaluated under stereomicroscope(Leica M420, LC, U.S.A)at $\times$8.75 magnification. Liner measurement of dye penetration was assessed with the use of digitalized image analysing system (analySIS, GmbH, Germany) The data were analysed statistically using independent T-test and Two-way ANOVA and Tukey test. The result were as follows 1. In canal prepared with GT$^{TM}$ rotary file, shaphing time taked more than the group of using Gates Glidden drill to coronal preparation without statistical significance (p>0.05) 2. The group of single cone obturation using canal preparation of GT$^{TM}$ rotary files showed significantly more apical leakage than those of lateral condensation and continuous wave technique regardless of shaping method (p<0.05). 3 The group of single cone obturation using canal preparation of GT$^{TM}$ rotary files and Gates Glidden drill showed significantly more apical leakage than those of continuous wave technique regardless of shaping method (p<0.05). 4. Regardless of shaping method, The group of continuous wave obturation showed less apical leakage than those of lateral condensation without statistical significance (p>0.05). 5. The group of single cone obturation using canal preparation of GT$^{TM}$ rotary files and Gates Glidden drill showed more apical leakage than the group of lateral condensation using same shaping method with-out statistical significance (p>0.05).

  • The shade of restorative materials is very important for successful restoration esthetically harmonized with the natural tooth. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the color stability and the opacity change of conventional chemical setting and visible light curing glass-ionomer cements for restorative esthetic filling. Specimens of each brand (GC Fuji II and Fuji II LC) were uniformly prepared and divided into three groups: In group l(control group), the specimens received no surface treatment; in group 2, the specimens were coated with varnish and the excess gently blown off; and in group 3. the specimens were coated with light-cured bonding resin and irradiated by a visible light curing unit for 20 seconds on both sides. All specimens were stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ and checked after for 24 hours. 2 months. 4 months, 6 months. and 8 months. The color characteristics($L^*,\;a^*,\;b^*$) and the opacity(Y%) of all the samples were measured by a spectrocolorimeter and the total color differences(${\Delta}E^*$) and opacity changes(${\Delta}Y%$) were computed. The following results were obtained : 1. The total tolor differences in all groups increased with time. 2. The total color differences of the LC groups after immersion for 8 months in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ were lower than those of GC groups(p<0.01), and the total color differences of the varnish or the light-cured bonding resin coated groups were lower than those of the control group with glass-ionomer cements which had no surface treatment(p<0.01). 3. In all groups the translucency decreased with time. 4. In the control group and the varnish coating group. the opacity changes of the GC groups were lower than those of the LC groups(p<0.01) and in the light-cured bonding resin coated group, there was no significant difference between the GC group and the LC group. 5. The opacity changes of the varnish or the light-cured bonding resin coated groups were lower than those of the control group(p<0.01). These results suggest that color change and opacity of conventional chemical setting and light cured glass-ionomer cement were increased with time, and the color changes and the opacity changes of a control group after immersion for 8 months in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ were greater than those of the varnish or the light-cured bonding resin coated groups.

  • Freezing is becoming incressingly important in the food industry as a means of food preservation since the turn of the century. For quality, processing and economic reasons, it is important to predict the freezing time for foods. A number of models have been proposed to predict freezing time. However, most analytical freezing time prediction techniques apply only to specific freezing conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an improved analytical method for freezing time prediction under various conditions. The objectives of this study, by reviewing previous experimental data obtained by uncertain freezing condition and thermo-physical data, were to develop simple and accurate analytical method for prediction freezing time, and to obtain the freezing time of various foodstuffs by still air freezing and immersion freezing method. The result of this study showed that the proposed method offered better results than the other complex method compared.

  • PLA/PEG blend fibers composed of poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) were prepared via melt blending and spinning for bioabsorbable filament sutures. The blend fibers hydrolyzed with the immersion in a phosphate buffer solution at pH 7.4 and $37\;^{\circ}C$ for 1~8 weeks. The effects of blending time, blend composition, and hydrolysis time on the weight loss and tensile strength of the hydrolyzed blend fibers were investigated. After hydrolysis, the weight loss of the blend fibers increased with increasing PEG content, blending time, and hydrolysis time. The tensile strength and tensile modulus of the blend fibers decreased with increasing PEG content, blending time, and hydrolysis time. Therefore, it can be concluded that the weight loss of the PLA/PEG blend fibers was less than 0.9% even at hydrolysis time of 2 weeks and their strength retentions were over 90%.
