  • Due to the development of video and optical technology today, video equipments are being used in a variety of fields such as identification, security maintenance, and factory automation systems that generate products. In this paper, we investigate an algorithm that effectively recognizes an experimental object in an input image with a partial problem due to the mechanical problem of the input imaging device. The object recognition algorithm proposed in this paper moves and rotates the vertices constituting the outline of the experimental object to the positions of the respective vertices constituting the outline of the DB model. Then, the discordance values between the moved and rotated experimental object and the corresponding DB model are calculated, and the minimum discordance value is selected. This minimum value is the final discordance value between the experimental object and the corresponding DB model, and the DB model with the minimum discordance value is selected as the recognition result for the experimental object. The proposed object recognition method obtains satisfactory recognition results using only partial information of the experimental object.

  • The number of vehicles has increased exponentially over the past 20 years due to technological advancements. It is becoming almost impossible to manually control and manage the traffic in a city like Karachi. Without license plate recognition, traffic management is impossible. The Framework for License Plate Detection & Recognition to overcome these issues is proposed. License Plate Detection & Recognition is primarily performed in two steps. The first step is to accurately detect the license plate in the given image, and the second step is to successfully read and recognize each character of that license plate. Some of the most common algorithms used in the past are based on colour, texture, edge-detection and template matching. Nowadays, many researchers are proposing methods based on deep learning. This research proposes a framework for License Plate Detection & Recognition using a custom YOLOv5 Object Detector, image segmentation techniques, and Tesseract's optical character recognition OCR. The accuracy of this framework is 0.89.

  • Because of the mechanical problems of input camera equipment, image restoration process is performed in order to minimize recognition errors due to the noise problem generated in test data image. The image restoration method resolves the noise problem by examining the numbers and positions of the Direct neighbors and the Indirect neighbors for each pixel constituting the test data. As a result, satisfactory recognition result can be obtained by eliminating the noise problem generated in the test data through the image restoration process as much as possible and also by calculating the differences between the learning data and the test data in the area unit, thereby reducing the possibility of recognition error by the noise problem.

  • As the 4th industry has been widely distributed, there is a need for a process of real-time image recognition in various fields such as identification of company employees, security maintenance, and development of military weapons. Therefore, in this paper, we will propose an algorithm that effectively recognizes a test object by comparing it with the DB model. The proposed object recognition system first expresses the outline of the test object as a set of vertices with the distances of predefined length or more. Then, the degree of matching of the structures of the two objects is calculated by examining the distances to the outline of the DB model from the vertices constituting the test object. Because the proposed recognition algorithm uses the outline of the object, the recognition process is easy to understand, simple to implement, and a satisfactory recognition result is obtained.

  • This paper describes the algorithm that lowers the dimension, maintains the object recognition and significantly reduces the eigenspace configuration time by combining the edge orientation histogram and principle component analysis. By using the detected object region as a recognition input image, in this paper the object recognition method combined with principle component analysis and the multi-layer network which is one of the intelligent classification was suggested and its performance was evaluated. As a pre-processing algorithm of input object image, this method computes the eigenspace through principle component analysis and expresses the training images with it as a fundamental vector. Each image takes the set of weights for the fundamental vector as a feature vector and it reduces the dimension of image at the same time, and then the object recognition is performed by inputting the multi-layer neural network.

  • As augmented reality technology becomes more common and prevelant, marker-based AR contents are applied in various ways. However AR contents are still hardly utilized due to the low recognition rate of marker images. In order to increase the recognition rate of AR marker images, this paper experiment and analyzed how much the recognition rate of markers could be improved when image correction and design changes was applied. The experimental result shows that the image correction task could significantly improve the number of image characteristics and the recognition grade if the image was modified in a way its saturation value is increased. Moreover, the recognition rate was improved even more when regular pattern design was added to the original marker image. In conclusion, it was possible to make the marker well recognized through proper correction of the image and additional process of pattern design in the process of producing the marker image.

  • In this paper, we propose a technique to reconstruct the iris image from the iris code by analyzing the process of generating the iris code and calculating it inversely. Iris recognition is an authentication method for authenticating an individual's identity by using iris information of an eye having unique information of an individual. The iris recognition extracts the features of the iris from the iris image, creates the iris code, and determines whether to authenticate using the corresponding code. The iris recognition method using the iris code is a method proposed by Daugman for the first time and is widely used as a representative method of iris recognition technology currently used commercially. In this paper, we restore the iris image with only the iris code, and test whether the reconstructed image and the original image can be recognized, and analyze restoration vulnerability of Daugman's iris code.

  • The process of extracting external boundary of an object is a very important process for recognizing an object in the image. The proposed extraction method consists of two processes: External Boundary Extraction and Thinning. In the first step, external boundary extraction process separates the region representing the object in the input image. Then, only the pixels adjacent to the background are selected among the pixels constituting the object to construct an outline of the object. The second step, thinning process, simplifies the outline of an object by eliminating unnecessary pixels by examining positions and interconnection relations between the pixels constituting the outline of the object obtained in the previous extraction process. As a result, the simplified external boundary of object results in a higher recognition rate in the next step, the object recognition process.

  • Biometric authentication has become an essential part of modern-day security systems, especially in financial institutions like banks. A face recognition-based ATM is a biometric authentication system, that uses facial recognition technology to verify the identity of bank account holders during ATM transactions. This technology offers a secure and convenient alternative to traditional ATM transactions that rely on PIN numbers for verification. The proposed system captures users' pictures and compares it with the stored image in the bank's database to authenticate the transaction. The technology also offers additional benefits such as reducing the risk of fraud and theft, as well as speeding up the transaction process. However, privacy and data security concerns remain, and it is important for the banking sector to instrument solid security actions to protect customers' personal information. The proposed system consists of two stages: the first stage captures the user's facial image using a camera and performs pre-processing, including face detection and alignment. In the second stage, machine learning algorithms compare the pre-processed image with the stored image in the database. The results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of using face recognition for ATM authentication, which can enhance the security of ATMs and reduce the risk of fraud.

  • Iris recognition for biometric personnel identification has gained much interest owing to the increasing concern with security today. The image quality plays a major role in the performance of iris recognition systems. When capturing an iris image under uncontrolled conditions and dealing with non-cooperative people, the chance of getting non-ideal images is very high owing to poor focus, off-angle, noise, motion blur, occlusion of eyelashes and eyelids, and wearing glasses. In order to improve the accuracy of iris recognition while dealing with non-ideal iris images, we propose a novel algorithm that improves the quality of degraded iris images. First, the iris image is localized properly to obtain accurate iris boundary detection, and then the iris image is normalized to obtain a fixed size. Second, the valid region (iris region) is extracted from the segmented iris image to obtain only the iris region. Third, to get a well-distributed texture image, bilinear interpolation is used on the segmented valid iris gray image. Using contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) enhances the low contrast of the resulting interpolated image. The results of CLAHE are further improved by stretching the maximum and minimum values to 0-255 by using histogram-stretching technique. The gray texture information is extracted by 1D Gabor filters while the Hamming distance technique is chosen as a metric for recognition. The NICE-II training dataset taken from UBRIS.v2 was used for the experiment. Results of the proposed method outperformed other methods in terms of equal error rate (EER).
