  • Notion Compensation(MC) technique using Sub-Band Coding with the hierarchical structure is efficient to estimate real motion. In the hierarchical pyramid method, low-band MC pyramid method is popular, where the upper layer estimate the glover motion and next lower layer estimate the local motion. The low-band MC pyramid scheme has two problems. First, because the quantization errors at lower layer are accumulated when using coding and quantizing, it is impossible to search the exact Motion Vector(MV) Second, because of the top-down search problem in the hierarchical structure, MV mismatch in upper layer causes serious MV in lower layer So. we propose new hierarchical MC pyramid method based on edge classification. In this Paper, we show that the performance of proposed Pass-band motion compensation pyramid technique is better than low-band motion compensation pyramid. Also, in the pyramid motion estimation, we propose initial MV estimation scheme based on the edge-pattern classification. As a result, we find that PSNR was increased.

  • In this paper, we propose the input image selection-method to improve the reconstructed high-resolution (HR) image quality. To obtain ideal super-resolution (SR) reconstruction image, all input images are well-registered. However, the registration is not ideal in practice. Due to this reason, the selection of input images with low registration error (RE) is more important than the number of input images in order to obtain good quality of a HR image. The suitability of a candidate input image can be determined by using statistical and restricted registration properties. Therefore, we propose the proper candidate input Low Resolution(LR) image selection-method as a pre-processing for the SR reconstruction in automatic manner. In video sequences, all input images in specified region are allowed to use SR reconstruction as low-resolution input image and/or the reference image. The candidacy of an input LR image is decided by the threshold value and this threshold is calculated by using the maximum motion compensation error (MMCE) of the reference image. If the motion compensation error (MCE) of LR input image is in the range of 0 < MCE < MMCE then this LR input image is selected for SR reconstruction, else then LR input image are neglected. The optimal reference LR (ORLR) image is decided by comparing the number of the selected LR input (SLRI) images with each reference LR input (RLRI) image. Finally, we generate a HR image by using optimal reference LR image and selected LR images and by using the Hardie's interpolation method. This proposed algorithm is expected to improve the quality of SR without any user intervention.

  • When the micro-Doppler (MD) image of a ballistic missile is derived, the translational motion compensation (TMC) method is usually applied to the inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) image, but yields poor results because of the micro-motion of the ballistic missile. This paper proposes an efficient TMC method to obtain a focused MD image of a ballistic missile engaged in complicated micro-motion. During range alignment, range profiles (RPs) are coarsely aligned by using the 1D entropy cost function of RPs as a mark, then the coarsely-aligned RPs are fine-aligned by using the minimum 2D entropy of the MD image. During phase adjustment, the gradient of the phase error is appropriately weighted and added to the previous phase error to further fine-tune the aligned RPs. In simulations using the point scatterer model and the measured data from the real missile model, the proposed method provided better image focus than the existing method.

  • In this paper, we propose a do-interlacing algorithm using integral projection-based motion estimation considering Region Of Interest(ROI). The proposed motion estimation method finds the motion of the given ROI accurately with low computational cost. In order to incorporate the motion estimation in do-interlacing, an entire image is first segmented into multiple ROIs according to the temporally predicted block-wise motion types and spatial positions. Then, motion vectors of respective ROIs are obtained by the integral projection method. In this paper, totally five ROIs, one for the global motion and four for the local motions, are made, and therefore, five motion vectors are produced for each field. By using the estimated motion vectors, motion compensation is performed for increasing the vortical resolution of the converted frames. Finally, do-interlaced frames are obtained by effectively combining the results of motion compensation and stable intra-field do-interlacing according to the reliability of motion compensation. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm provides better image quality than existing algorithms in both subjective and objective measures.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel architecture, which is based on DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform), for ME (Motion Estimation) and MC (Motion Compensation). The traditional algorithms of ME and MC based on DCT did not suffer the advantage of the coarseness of the 2-dimensional DCT (2-D DCT) coefficients to reduce the operational time. Therefore, we derive a recursion equation for transform-domain ME and MC and design the structure by using highly regular, parallel, and pipeline processing elements. The main difference with others is removing the IDCT block by using to transform domain. Therefore, the performance of our algorithm is more efficient in practical image processing such as DVR (Digital Video Recorder) system. We present the simulation result which is compare with the spatial domain methods. it shows reducing the calculation cost. compression ratio. and peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR).

  • For high quality image acquisition, compensating air-vehicle motion is essential for airborne SAR system. This paper describes a timing control based motion compensation method for airborne SAR system. Efficient timing control is critical for SAR system since it maintains many timing signals and timing setting for the signals should be updated frequently. This paper proposes Timing Cluster method as an efficient means for timing control of SAR system. Moreover, this paper suggests a simple and efficient method to compensate air-vehicle motion based on the Timing Cluster method. Timing Cluster method enables SAR system to control the timing in a timing noncritical way just maintaining little amount of information.

  • A new stereoscopic codec. structure using MPEG-2 multiview profile is presented in this paper. In the suggested codec., the left image is coded with motion estimation in the base layerand the right image is coded with disparity estimation in the enhancement layer. Since it is possible to calculate rough motion of the right image sequence with disparity and motion of the left image sequence, motion compensation of the enhancement layer is performed without motion estimation. Since the proposed codec. does not perform motion estimation in the enhancement layer encoding, it is simple and reduces the encoding time. We compared the PSNR of encoded image with three different structured codec., and the experimental results show that suggested codec. has comparable with other codecs.

  • In this paper, we improved the clarity and quality of the radar imaging by applying motion compensation for time-frequency transform in B-ISAR imaging. The proposed motion compensation algorithm using UWB radar is verified. B-ISAR algorithm procedure and time-frequency transform for improved motion compensation are provided for theoretical ground. The image was created by a UWB Radar B-ISAR imaging algorithm method. Also, creating a B-ISAR imaging algorithm for motion compensation of time-frequency transformation method was used. The B-ISAR Imaging algorithm is implemented using STFT(Short-Time Fourier Transform), GWT(Gabor Wavelet Transform), and WVD(Wigner-Ville Distribution) approaches. The performance of STFT is compared with the GWT and WVD algorithms. It is found that the WVD image shows more clarity and decreased spread phenomenon than other methods.

  • We developed a software for simulations and analyses of the Image Navigation and Registration (INR) system, and compares the characteristics of Image Motion Compensation (IMC) algorithms for the INR system. According to the orbit errors and attitude errors, the capabilities of the image distortions are analyzed. The distortions of images can be compensated by GOES IMC algorithm and Modified IMC (MIMC) algorithm. The capabilities of each IMC algorithm are confirmed based on compensated images. The MIMC yields better results than GOES IMC although both the algorithms well compensate distorted images. The results of this research can be used as valuable asset to design of INR system for the Communication, Ocean, Meteorological Satellite (COMS).
