  • Recently, sparse coding has achieved remarkable success in image representation tasks. In practice, the performance of clustering can be significantly improved if limited label information is incorporated into sparse coding. To this end, in this paper, a novel semi-supervised algorithm, called constrained sparse concept coding (CSCC), is proposed for image representation. CSCC considers limited label information into graph embedding as additional hard constraints, and hence obtains embedding results that are consistent with label information and manifold structure information of the original data. Therefore, CSCC can provide a sparse representation which explicitly utilizes the prior knowledge of the data to improve the discriminative power in clustering. Besides, a kernelized version of our proposed CSCC, namely kernel constrained sparse concept coding (KCSCC), is developed to deal with nonlinear data, which leads to more effective clustering performance. The experimental evaluations on the MNIST, PIE and Yale image sets show the effectiveness of our proposed algorithms.

  • SAM(Spectral Angle Mapper) is the method using the similarly of the angle between pairs of signatures instead of the spectral distance(MDC, MLC etc.) for classification or clustering. In this paper, we applied unsupervised techniques(Unsupervised SAM and ISODATA) to the Hyperspectral Image(Hyperion) which has innumerable, narrow and contiguous spectral bands and Multispectral Image(ETM$\^$+/) for the clustering of signatures. The overall measured accuracies of the USAM and ISODATA of multispectral image were 76.52%, 53.91% and the USAM and ISODATA of hyperspectral image were 63.04%, 53.91%. From the results of our test, we report that the Unsupervised SAM is better classfication technique than ISODATA. Also we believe that the "Spectral Angle" can potentially be one of the most accurate classifier not only multispectral images but hyperspectral images.

  • Non-local similarity of natural images is one of highly exploited features in various applications dealing with images. Unique edges, texture, and pattern of the images are frequently repeated over the entire image. Once the similar image blocks are classified into a cluster, representative features of the image blocks can be extracted from the cluster. The bigger the size of the cluster is the better the additive white noise can be separated. Denoising is one of major research topics in the image processing field suppressing the additive noise. In this paper, a denoising algorithm is proposed which first clusters the noisy image blocks based on similarity, extracts the feature of the cluster, and finally recovers the original image. Performance experiments with several images under various noise strengths show that the proposed algorithm recovers the details of the image such as edges, texture, and patterns while outperforming the previous methods in terms of PSNR in removing the additive Gaussian noise.

  • In this paper, we propose an image retrieval algorithm for real-time processing and design it as hardware. The proposed method is based on the classification of BoWs(Bag of Words) algorithm and proposes an image search algorithm using bit stream. K-fold cross validation is used for the verification of the algorithm. Data is classified into seven classes, each class has seven images and a total of 49 images are tested. The test has two kinds of accuracy measurement and speed measurement. The accuracy of the image classification was 86.2% for the BoWs algorithm and 83.7% the proposed hardware-accelerated software implementation algorithm, and the BoWs algorithm was 2.5% higher. The image retrieval processing speed of BoWs is 7.89s and our algorithm is 1.55s. Our algorithm is 5.09 times faster than BoWs algorithm. The algorithm is largely divided into software and hardware parts. In the software structure, C-language is used. The Scale Invariant Feature Transform algorithm is used to extract feature points that are invariant to size and rotation from the image. Bit streams are generated from the extracted feature point. In the hardware architecture, the proposed image retrieval algorithm is written in Verilog HDL and designed and verified by FPGA and Design Compiler. The generated bit streams are stored, the clustering step is performed, and a searcher image databases or an input image databases are generated and matched. Using the proposed algorithm, we can improve convenience and satisfaction of the user in terms of speed if we search using database matching method which represents each object.

  • Cluster analysis has been widely used in many applications, such that pattern analysis or recognition, data analysis, image processing, market research on on-line or off-line and so on. Clustering can identify dense and sparse regions among data attributes or object attributes. But it requires many hours to get clusters that we want, because of clustering is more primitive, explorative and we make many data an object of cluster analysis. In this paper we propose a new method of clustering using sample based on grid. It is more fast than any traditional clustering method and maintains its accuracy. It reduces running time by using grid-based sample. And other clustering applications can be more effective by using this methods with its original methods.

  • Conventional fuzzy c-means (FCM) algorithms have achieved a good clustering performance. However, they do not fully utilize the spatial information in the image and this results in lower clustering performance for images that have low contrast, vague boundaries, and noises. To overcome this issue, we propose an enhanced spatial fuzzy c-means (ESFCM) algorithm that takes into account the influence of neighboring pixels on the center pixel by assigning weights to the neighbors in a $3{\times}3$ square window. To evaluate between the proposed ESFCM and various FCM based segmentation algorithms, we utilized clustering validity functions such as partition coefficient ($V_{pc}$), partition entropy ($V_{pe}$), and Xie-Bdni function ($V_{xb}$). Experimental results show that the proposed ESFCM outperforms other FCM based algorithms in terms of clustering validity functions.

  • This paper is a study on an object extraction method which using color features of an object and background in the image. A human recognizes an object through the color difference of object and background in the image. So we must to emphasize the color's difference that apply to extraction result in this image. Therefore, we have converted to HSV color images which similar to human visual system from original RGB images, and have created two each other images that applied Median Filter and we merged two Median filtered images. And we have applied the Mean Shift algorithm which a data clustering method for clustering color features. Finally, we have normalized 3 image channels to 1 image channel for binarization process. And we have created object map through the binarization which using average value of whole pixels as a threshold. Then, have extracted major object from original image use that object map.
