  • In this paper we propose a new method that can be estimation the spectral power distribution of the light source from three-band images. the light source is estimated by dividing the reflected spectral power distribution of the maximum achromatic region(L(λ)) by the corresponding surface reflectance(Ο(λ)). In order to obtain reflected spectral power distribution of the maximum achromatic region from three-bend images, a modified gray world assumption algorithm is adapted. And the maximum surface reflectance is estimated using the principal component analysis method along with achromatic population. The achromatic population is created from a set of given Munsell color chips whose chroma vector is less than threshold. Cumulative contribution ratio of principal components from the first to the third for classified achromatic population was about 99.75%. The reconstruction of illumination spectral power distribution by using achromatic population and three-band digital images captured under various light source was examined, and evaluated by RMSE between the original and reconstructed illumination spectral power distribution. • In this paper, we present an effective viewpoint estimation algorithm for the Moving parallax barrier method of 3D display mobile device. Moving parallax barrier is designed to overcome the biggest problem, the limited view angle. To accomplish it, the position of the viewer's eyes or face should be estimated with strong stability and no latency. We focus on these requirements in the poor performance of mobile processors. We used a pre-processing algorithm in order to overcome the various illumination changes. And, we combined the conventional Viola-Jones face detection method and Optical-flow algorithm for robust and stable viewpoint estimation. Various computer simulations prove the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we propose Two-Dimensional Robust Face Recognition System Realized with the Aid of Facial Symmetry with Illumination Variation. Preprocessing process is carried out to obtain mirror image which means new image rearranged by using difference between light and shade of right and left face based on a vertical axis of original face image. After image preprocessing, high dimensional image data is transformed to low-dimensional feature data through 2-directional and 2-dimensional Principal Component Analysis (2D)2PCA, which is one of dimensional reduction techniques. Polynomial-based Radial Basis Function Neural Network pattern classifier is used for face recognition. While FCM clustering is applied in the hidden layer, connection weights are defined as a linear polynomial function. In addition, the coefficients of linear function are learned through Weighted Least Square Estimation(WLSE). The Structural as well as parametric factors of the proposed classifier are optimized by using Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO). In the experiment, Yale B data is employed in order to confirm the advantage of the proposed methodology designed in the diverse illumination variation

  • Lane detection algorithms became a key factor of advance driver assistance system (ADAS), since the rapidly increasing of high-technology in vehicles. However, one common problem of these algorithms is their performance's instability under various illumination conditions. We recognize a feasible complementation between image processing and color science to address the problem of lane marks detection on the road with different lighting conditions. We proposed a novel lane detection algorithm using the attributes of a uniform color space such as $CIEL^*C^*h$ with the implementation of image processing techniques, that lead to positive results. We applied at the final stage Clustering to make more accurate our lane mark estimation. The experimental results show the effectiveness of our method with detection rate of 91.80%. Moreover, the algorithm performs satisfactory with changes in illumination due to our process with lightness ($L^*$) and the color's property on $CIEL^*C^*h$.

  • Critical cell density (CCD), the maximum cell concentration without mutual shading in algal cultures, can be used as a new operating parameter for high-density algal cultures and for the application of the flashing light effect on illuminated algal cultures. CCD is a function of average cell volume and light illumination area. The CCD is thus proposed as an index of estimation of mutual shading in algal cultures. Where cell densities are below the CCD, all the cells in photobioreactors can undergo photosysnthesis at their maximum rate. At cell densities over CCD, mutual shading will occur and some cells in the illumination chamber cannot grow photoautotrophically. When the cell concentration is higher than the CCD, specific oxygen production rates under flashing light were higher than those under continuous light. The CCD was found to be a useful engineering parameter for the application of flashing light, particularly in high-density algal cultures.

  • Recently, orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) was applied to VLC systems owing to its high rate capability. On the other hand, a real-valued unipolar OFDM signal for VLC significantly reduces bandwidth efficiency. For practical implementation, channel estimation is required for data demodulation, which causes a further decrease in spectral efficiency. In addition, the large fluctuation of an OFDM signal results in poor illumination quality, such as chromaticity changes. This paper proposes a spectrally efficient method based on a hidden-pilot-aided precoding technology for VLC with less flickering than a conventional OFDM-based method. This approach can obtain channel information without any loss of bandwidth efficiency while ensuring illumination quality by reducing the flickering effect of an OFDM-based VLC. The simulation results show that the proposed method provides a 6.4% gain in bandwidth efficiency with a 4% reduction in flicker compared to a conventional OFDM-based method.

  • One of the fundamental elements in developing mixed reality applications is to effectively analyze and apply the environmental lighting information to image synthesis. In particular, interactive applications require to process dynamically varying lighting sources in real-time, reflecting them properly in rendering results. Previous related works are not often appropriate for this because they are usually designed to synthesize photorealistic images, generating too many, often exponentially increasing, light sources or having too heavy a computational complexity. In this paper, we present a fast light source estimation technique that aims to search for primary light sources on the fly from a sequence of video images taken by a camera equipped with a fisheye lens. In contrast to previous methods, our technique can adust the number of found light sources approximately to the size that a user specifies. Thus, it can be effectively used in Phong-illumination-model-based direct illumination or soft shadow generation through light sampling over area lights.

  • In this paper, an illuminant estimation algorithm of a chromatic digital images proposed. The proposed illumination estimation method has two phases. First, the surface spectral reflectances are recovered. In this case, the surface spectral reflectances recovered are limited to the maximum highlight region (MHR) which is the most achromatic and highly bright region of an image after applying intermediate color constancy process using a modified gray world algorithm. Next, the surface reflectances of the maximum highlight region are estimated using the principal component analysis method along with a set of given Munsell samples. Second, the spectral distribution of reflected lights of MHR is selected from the spectral database. That is a color difference is compared between the reflected lights of the MHR and the spectral database that is the set of reflected lights built by the given Munsell samples and a set of illuminants. Then the closest colors from the spectral database are selected. Finally, the illuminant of an image can be calculated dividing the average spectral distributions of reflected lights of MHR by the average surface reflectances of the MHR. In order to evaluate the proposed algorithm, experiments with artificial and real captured color-biased scenes were performed and numerical comparison examined. The proposed method was effective in estimating the spectral of the given illuminant sunder various illuminants.

  • The aim of the estimation of disparity map is to find the corresponding pixels from similar two or more images. However, it is a difficult problem to get precise and consistent disparity under a variety of real world situations. In other words, the color values of stereo images are easily influenced by radiometric properties such as illumination direction, illumination color, and camera exposure. Therefore, conventional stereo matching methods can have low performances under radiometric conditions. In this paper, we propose an approaching of disparity map estimation that is reliable in controlling various radiometric variations close to the real environment. This method is motivated by following constancy. Even though each other has different radiometric property in stereo images, intensity of pixels of object have general constancy in specific block. Experimental results show that the proposed method has better performances compared to the comparison group under different radiometric conditions between stereo images. Consequentially, the proposed method is able to estimate the disparity map in stable under various radiometric variations.
