The emergence of Web 2.0 technologies, such as blogs and wiki, enable even naive users to easily create and share content on the Web using freely available content sharing tools. Wide availability of almost free data and promiscuous sharing of content through social networking platforms created a content borrowing phenomenon, where the same content appears (in many cases in the form of extensive quotations) in different outlets. An immediate side effect of this phenomenon is that identifying which content is re-used by whom is becoming a critical tool in social network analysis, including expert identification and analysis of information flow. Internet-scale reuse detection, however, poses extremely challenging scalability issues: considering the large size of user created data on the web, it is essential that the techniques developed for content-reuse detection should be fast and scalable. Thus, in this paper, we propose a $qSign_{lsh}$ algorithm, a mechanism for identifying multi-sentence content reuse among documents by efficiently combining sentence-level evidences. The experiment results show that $qSign_{lsh}$ significantly improves the reuse detection speed and provides high recall.
System identification of structures is one of the important aspects of structural health monitoring. The accuracy and efficiency of identification results is affected severely by measurement noises, especially when the structure system is large, such as bridge structures, and when online system identification is required. In this paper, the least square estimation (LSE) method is used combined with the substructure approach for identifying structural parameters of a cable-stay bridge with large degree of freedoms online. Numerical analysis is carried out by first dividing the bridge structure into smaller substructures and then estimates the parameters of each substructure online using LSE method. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach is capable of identifying structural parameters, however, the accuracy and efficiency of identification results depend highly on the noise sensitivities of loading region, loading pattern as well as element size.

Pre-retrieval query formulation is an important step for identifying local text reuse. Local reuse with high obfuscation, paraphrasing, and translation poses a challenge of finding the reused text in a document. In this paper, three pre-retrieval query formulation strategies for heuristic retrieval in case of low obfuscated, high obfuscated, and translated text are studied. The strategies used are (a) Query formulation using proper nouns; (b) Query formulation using unique words (Hapax); and (c) Query formulation using most frequent words. Whereas in case of low and high obfuscation and simulated paraphrasing, keywords with Hapax proved to be slightly more efficient, initial results indicate that the simple strategy of query formulation using proper nouns gives promising results and may prove better in reducing the size of the corpus for post processing, for identifying local text reuse in case of obfuscated and translated text reuse.
We report progress on identifying cosmic voids using cluster halos as the antipode. According to the standard scenario of structure formation, clusters are expected to form at peaks of the initial density field, whereas cosmic voids form at troughs. Then, a cluster would be a void if the sign of the initial density fluctuation of the universe were inverted. To study the relevance of anti-structures of clusters to cosmic voids, we use a pair of simulations whose initial density fields are sign inverted versions to each other. By examining the spatial distribution and environment of the particles in inverted simulation, which are the member particles of clusters in the other simulation, we discuss the characteristics of the antipode structures of clusters including their size, density, internal structure, and redshift evolution as well.
Accurately identifying brain tumors is crucial for medical imaging's precise diagnosis and treatment planning. This study presents a novel approach that uses cutting-edge image processing techniques to automatically segment brain tumors. with the use of the Pyramid Network algorithm. This technique accurately and robustly delineates tumor borders in MRI images. Our strategy incorporates special algorithms that efficiently address problems such as tumor heterogeneity and size and shape fluctuations. An assessment using the RESECT Dataset confirms the validity and reliability of the method and yields promising results in terms of accuracy and computing efficiency. This method has a great deal of promise to help physicians accurately identify tumors and assess the efficacy of treatments, which could lead to higher standards of care in the field of neuro-oncology.
In the microsurgical era, replantation with microvascular anastomosis is considered as the most superior method in aspects of texture, color, shape in case of nose amputation. There are some reported cases of replantation in nose amputation historically, but most of them are composite graft cases rather than microvascular anastomosis. Only a few cases of successful nasal replantation with microvascular anastomosis have been reported due to the reason that the size of vessels is usually very small and identifying suitable vessels for anastomosis is difficult. Microanastomosis of artery and microanastomosis of vein are ideal in replantation, but identifying suitable veins is often difficult. Without venous anastomosis, resolving the venous congestion remains to be a problem. We can carry out arteriovenous shunt if we can find two arteries in amputee. However, the smaller the size of amputee is, the more difficult it is to find two arteries. Instead of arteriovenous shunt, we can try external venous drainage(frequently swab, pin-prick, stab incision, IV or local heparin injection, dropping, apply of heparin-soaked gauze, use of medical leech). Here, we present three cases of replantation with microscopical arterial anastomosis (one angular artery, two dorsal nasal arteries) and external venous drainage (stab incision, application of medical leech and heparin-soaked gauze) even though the size of amputee may be as small as $1.5{\times}1.0cm$. In all cases, surgical outcomes were excellent in cosmetic and functional aspects. This report describes successful replantation by microvasular anastomosis in case that suitable veins are not found.
The compaction properties of the soil change depending on the physical properties, and are also affected by crushing of the particles. Since the particle size distribution of soil affects the engineering properties of the soil, it is necessary to analyze the material properties to understand the compaction characteristics. In this study, the size of each sieve was classified into four in the particle size analysis as a material property, and the compaction characteristics were evaluated by multiple regression and maximum dry unit weight. As a result of maximum dry unit weight prediction, multiple regression analysis showed R2 of 0.70 or more, and DNN analysis showed R2 of 0.80 or more. The reliability of the prediction result analyzed by DNN was evaluated higher than that of multiple regression, and the analysis result of DNN-T showed improved prediction results by 1.87% than DNN. The prediction of maximum dry unit weight using particle size distribution seems to be applied to evaluate the compacting state by identifying the material characteristics of roads and embankments. In addition, the particle size distribution can be used as a parameter for predicting maximum dry unit weight, and it is expected to be of great help in terms of time and cost of applying it to the compaction state evaluation.
The generators of a small size below 100Kw are often used as power suppliers for emergency only in most domestic telecommunication companies. Serious twisted waves occur due to the inflow of harmonies from the generator into a S-type rectifier. And the increasing by stages of load upon the rectifier end up a stoppage of power supply during the serious hunting, which makes it difficult to supply power securely on the other part as well as that of communications. In case of long time of power failure the generators of a small size will be essential because the battery for emergency has a limit in capacity. Therefore it is necessary to solve the problems concerning the generators. This study is focused on the identifying and solving the problem including use of SCR elements connected to the generators.
The purposes of this study were to describe 12 years of patient-related oncology nursing research in Korea, identifying various nursing interventions, and assesing the effectiveness of the interventions, through analysis and synthesis of the accumulated research papers. One hundred and seventy-nine studies were selected for this study and these were mostly descriptive in design (69.2%). Of the 179 studies, 25 met the criteria for meta-analytic treatment. Twenty-five experimental studies were found in theses and dissertations (68%), 92% used convenience sample, and the median sample size was 40. Subjects were predominantly in treatment and rehabilitation (76%). Most studies(68%) were not derived from a theory base, with only 8% reporting use of a nursing theory. Results of the meta-analysis are as follows. The effect size of the nursing intervention type was found to be significantly effective. The standardized mean difference ranged from a high positive of 2.55 to a low negative of -0.22. Direct personal nursing intervention method was more effective than indirect group method. Two nursing intervention methods were more effective than one. The greatest effect size was thyxical intervention. The greatest mean effect size was scalp hypothermia technique. Teaching was a frequent intervention after 1990, although a wide range of treatments were studied. Effect size of intervention for symptom management was largest in relieving pain. Effective intervention method for relieving anxiety was exercise.
A great deal of research has explored individuals' attempts to simplify choices by constructing a consideration set. This research aims to investigate which construction strategy, either inclusion or exclusion, is more likely to be adopted and how the adoption of a particular construction strategy can affect consideration set size while identifying the moderating role of chronic indecisiveness in the construction process. The findings of Study 1 indicate that individuals are more likely to adopt an inclusion strategy to reduce a consideration set to a more manageable size, and that an exclusion strategy results in a larger consideration set. In Study 2, the findings reveal that high-indecisiveness individuals are less likely than low-indecisiveness individuals to select an inclusion strategy, but that high-indecisiveness individuals adopting an inclusion strategy are able to reduce the number of alternatives in a consideration set to a manageable size on par with the size of a consideration set formed by low-indecisiveness individuals without elevating the level of perceived difficulty. The current research contributes to the stream of research on consideration set construction and indecisiveness, and offers useful practical implications for overcoming indecisiveness. Limitations and avenues for further research are also discussed.
