  • Turbulent coherent structures in the intermediate wake of a stationary and rotating cylinder, spin rate S=0.7, situated in a uniform were experimentally investigated using a conditionalphase average technique. Measurements were carried out at a section of 8.5 diameters downstream form the center of cylinder and a Reynolds number of $Re=6.5{\times}10^{3}.$/TEX> The phase averaged velocity and velocity vector fields, contours of vorticity, turbulent intermittency function and velocity fluctuation energy are presented and discussed in relation to the large scale coherent structures by Karman vortices that shed periodically from the cylinder. Coherent wake structures of the rotating cylinder is almost identical with stationary cylinder, but the lateral displacement and shrinkage of turbulent wake region is occured by rotation. Rotation of the cylinder result in that the deflection of wake center to deceleration region(Y/D${\simeq}-0.3)$ and the decrease of mean velocity defect(10%), vorticity strength of large scale structures(19%), total velocity fluctuation energy(12%).

  • In magnetic resonance-based wireless power transfer (WPT) systems, frequency splitting phenomenon, in which power transfer efficiency (PTE) decreases seriously as resonators are close to each other, is the problem that we should address for reliable power transfer in short distance. In this paper, we present WPT systems using an equivalent circuit model and analyze PTE and marginal coupling coefficient ($k_{split}$) where the frequency splitting occurs. In addition, we perform circuit-level simulations using Advanced Design System, and show that the achievable PTE is different for the structures of resonators when k>$k_{split}$. We confirm that higher PTE can be ensured as k increases in the case of identical resonators, while PTE is degraded as k increases in the case of non-identical resonators. Therefore, in short distance, in which k>$k_{split}$, it is more efficient for achieving reliable PTE to use identical resonators rather than non-identical resonators.

  • Presented are the STM images of self-assembled monolayer of 2-mercaptoethanol on Au(111). Striped structures of ($6{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$), ($5{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$), ($4{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) and compact-($5{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) were observed after annealing at $80^{\circ}C.$ Analysis of the ordered structures revealed that the basic fundamental units of the ordered structures were three crystallographically non-equivalent ($3_{\frac{1}{2}}{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) $R30^{\circ}$ assemblies, and that the way of combination of the assemblies produced the four different structures. The($6{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) structure ( $\theta$ = 0.33) was composed of one ($3_{\frac{1}{2}}{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$)$R30^{\circ}$ assembly, while the ($5{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) ( $\theta$ = 0.30) and ($4{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) ( $\theta$ = 0.38) structures were consisted of two ($3_{\frac{1}{2}}{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) $R30^{\circ}$ assemblies, separated by 5a and 4a, respectively. Furthermore, the compact-(5X 3½) structure ( $\theta$ = 0.50) was obtained by overlapping three ($3_{\frac{1}{2}}{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) $R30^{\circ}$ assemblies. In spite of the diversity in the adsorption structures, all the adsorption sites of 2-mercaptoethanol were fundamentally identical. On the other hand, the unannealed primitive SAM of 2-mercaptoethanol was characterized by two observations: a short-range order keeping the adsorbed molecules at approximately $3_{\frac{1}{2}}$ a and the small domains of the striped structures supporting that the observed surface structures on the annealed surface were the extension of the primitive layer of 2-mercaptoethanol. Comparing these observations with the already published structures of ethanthiol, it was concluded that the interaction between the hydroxyl groups of 2-mercaptoethanol might play a significant role in the adsorption step of 2-mercaptoethanol on Au(111) to organize the adsorption structures different from those of ethanthiol.

  • Mullitization of halloysite was examined with special attention to the influence of polytypism and impurities on the phase transformation. The phase transformation sequence in halloysite is identical with those in kaolinite and in dickite. Difference in the phase transformation above $1000^{\circ}C$ in kaolin minerals is attributed to the different crystal structures of metakaolins or the effect of impurities. Growth of mullite crytals in the discordered kaolinte including halloysite or illite occurs at about $100^{\circ}C$ lower temperature. Cristobalite is also hardly produced.

  • In finite element analysis of the PSC structures, the prestressing effect can be introduced by two ways, i.e, equivalent loads or initial stress. This study investigates the reason why the two schemes that adopt the different approaches produce the similar results. The discussion is applicable to the general finite elements that correspond to the concrete and tendons. Some of the detailed derivations of each scheme are presented. Numerical examples show the identical results for the two methods.

  • Drastic performance increase and accelerated progress in organic light-emitting diodes from solutions are shown using solution-processable small molecules based on the core structures of vacuum-evaporable materials. Systematic modification of small-molecule materials toward better processability from solutions at identical electro-optical properties is shown. This is demonstrated to lead to a significant improvement in the device performance.

  • Deformation measurement of large scale structures, such as the ground beds of high-rise buildings, tunnels, bridge, and railways, are important for insuring service quality and safety. The pose-relay videometrics method and displacement-relay videometrics method have already presented to measure the pose of non-intervisible objects and vertical subsidence of unstable areas, respectively. Both methods combine the cameras and cooperative markers to form the camera series networks. Based on these two networks, we propose two novel videometrics methods with closed-loop camera series network for deformation measurement of large scale structures. The closed-loop camera series network offers "closed-loop constraints" for the camera series network: the deformation of the reference points observed by different measurement stations is identical. The closed-loop constraints improve the measurement accuracy using camera series network. Furthermore, multiple closed-loops and the flexible combination of camera series network are introduced to facilitate more complex deformation measurement tasks. Simulated results show that the closed-loop constraints can enhance the measurement accuracy of camera series network effectively.

  • Irradiation of the metal nanoparticles causes local plasmon resonance in a specific wavelength band, which can improve the absorption and scattering properties of a structure. Since noble metal nanoparticles have better resonance effects than those of other metals, it is easy to identify plasmonic reactions and this is advantageous to find the optical tendency. Compared to having a particle gap or randomly arranged particle structures, densely and evenly packed structures can exhibit more uniform optical properties. Using the uniform properties, the structure can be applied to optical filtering applications. Therefore, in this paper, validation tests about metal nanoparticles and thin film structures are conducted for more accurate analysis. The optical properties of monolayer and bilayer noble metal nanoparticle structures with different diameters, packed in a uniform array, are investigated and their optical trends are analyzed. In addition, a thin film structure under identical conditions as metal nanoparticle structure is evaluated to confirm the improved optical characteristics.

  • In seismic response analysis of building structures, the input ground accelerations have considerable effect on the nonlinear response characteristics of structures. The characteristics of soil and the locality of the site where those ground motions were recorded affect on the contents of earthquake waves. Therefore, it is difficult to select appropriate input ground motions for seismic response analysis. This study describes a generation of artificial earthquake wave compatible with seismic design spectrum, and also evaluates the seismic response values of multistory reinforced concrete structures by the simulated earthquake motions. The artificial earthquake wave are generated according to the previously recorded earthquake waves in past major earthquake events. The artificial wave have identical phase angles to the recorded earthquake wave, and their overall response spectra are compatible with seismic design spectrum with 5% critical viscous damping. The input ground motions applied to this study have identical elastic acceleration response spectra, but have different phase angles. The purpose of this study is to investigate their validity as input ground motion for nonlinear seismic response analysis. As expected, the response quantifies by simulated earthquake waves present better stable than those by real recording of ground motion. It was concluded that the artificial earthquake waves generated in this paper are applicable as input ground motions for a seismic response analysis of building structures. It was also found that strength of input ground motions for seismic analysis are suitable to be normalize as elastic acceleration spectra.

  • Form-Finding of tensegrity structures by eigenvalue problem is presented, In ardor to maintain the structures stable, "Form-Finding" should be performed. The types of analytical methods are known to solve this phenomenon: One is to use force density method, and the other is to apply so called, generalized inverse method. In this paper, new form finding methods are presented to obtain the self-equilibrium stress of the tensegrity structures. This method is based on the equilibrium equation of the all of the joint and the governing equation is formulated as eigonvalue problem. In order to verify this approach, numerical example(tensegrity structures) are compared with others calculated by previous methods. The solution by present method is shown identical results. Furthermore, the developed process to find the results is more efficient than previous approaches.
