A Study on the Ternary GF/PA/PP Composites Manufactured by Using Pre-impregnated Glass Fiber (유리섬유를 미리 함침시켜 제조한 GF/PA/PP 삼성분 복합재료에 관한 연구)

  • The continuous fiber reinforced composites of GF/PA were fabricated using a pultrusion resin impregnation apparatus and cut into pellets of 6 mm length. GF/PA pellets were then melt-mixed with PP resin to prepare new types of ternary composites, GF/PA/PP. Mechanical and rheological properties of such composites revealed to be better than conventional ternary composites due to the longer average glass fibers. Measurements also showed that the mechanical properties of the composites prepared by direct injection molding were higher than those of the composites prepared by injection molding followed by extrusion. To improve adhesions of fiber surfaces and polymer matrix, PP-MAH (maleic anhydride) has been introduced in the GF/PA/PP composites as a compatibilizer. It was found that PP-MAH did indeed improve surface adhesion between fibers and polymer matrix and that, as a result, various mechanical properties were markedly enhanced. Visualization of the phase structure in the samples was done by means of SEM. The surfaces of glass fibers in GF/PA/PP composites revealed that the fibers remained to be encapsulated by PA resin. However, pre-encapsulation did not persist in GF/PA/PP/PP-MAH composites due to the improvement of surface adhesion between fibers and polymer matrix, although resin sticking to the fiber was observed.

  • This research was attempted to improve the hydrophilicity of polypropylene(PP) by using low temperature plasma polymerization of acrylic acid(AA) as a starting material. The results of the present study were as follows: The PP films deposited with AA plasma polymer showed excellent hydrophilicity, that the polar parts were about 20 dyn/cm, and also that the surface tensions were about 55 dyn/cm, whereas the disperse parts were not changed. Work of adhesions of the PP films deposited with AA plasma polymer were above 100 erg/ $cm^{2}$. AA plasma polymer formed by low temperature plasma polymerization of acrylic acid(AA) was even thin layer which contained many -OH groups.

  • Thermoplastic elastomers based on dynamically vulcanized NR/TOR/PP (rubber/PP=70/30) blends were prepared in a Haake banbury mixer. Effect of TOR content on the mechanical, dynamic mechanical and thermal stability of the rubber/plastic blends was characterized by UTM, DMTA, and TGA. On the addition of trans-polyoctylene rubber(TOR) to the rubber phase, there was a decrease in compression set and increase in tensile properties, hardness and dynamic properties as well as thermal stability or the elastomeric blends. Improvements in the properties were believed to be due to an increase in crosslink density of the rubber phase and increase in homogeneity of the blends.

Src Family Kinase Inhibitor PP2 Induces LC3 Conversion in a Manner That is Uncoupled from Autophagy and Increases Apoptosis in Multidrug-Resistant Cells

  • Recently, we reported that defective autophagy may contribute to the inhibition of the growth in response to PP2 (4-amino-5-(4-chlorophenyl)-7-(t-butyl)pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine), a selective SFK inhibitor, in multidrug-resistant v-Ha-ras-transformed NIH 3T3 cells (Ras-NIH 3T3/Mdr). In this study, we demonstrated that PP2 induces LC3 conversion via a mechanism that is uncoupled from autophagy and increases apoptosis in Ras-NIH 3T3/Mdr cells. PP2 preferentially induced autophagy in Ras-NIH 3T3 cells rather than in Ras-NIH 3T3/Mdr cells as determined by LC3-I to LC3-II conversion and GFP-LC3 fluorescence microscopy. Beclin 1 knockdown experiments showed that, regardless of drug resistance, PP2 induces autophagy via a Beclin 1-dependent mechanism. PP2 induced a conformational change in Beclin 1, resulting in the enhancement of the pro-autophagic activity of Beclin 1, in Ras-NIH 3T3 cells. Further, PI3K inhibition induced by wortmannin caused a significant increase in apoptosis in Ras-NIH 3T3 cells, as demonstrated by flow cytometric analysis of Annexin V staining, implying that autophagy inhibition through PI3K increases apoptosis in response to PP2 in Ras-NIH 3T3 cells. However, despite the fact that wortmannin abrogates PP2-induced GFP-LC3 punctae formation, some LC3 conversion remains in Ras-NIH 3T3/Mdr cells, suggesting that LC3 conversion may occur in an autophagy-independent manner. Taken together, these results suggest that PP2 induces LC3 conversion independent of PI3K, concomitant with the uncoupling of LC3 conversion from autophagy, in multidrug-resistant cells.

Lifetime characteristics of flexible organic light emitting diodes on PET substrate with plasma polymer barrier layers

  • Plasma polymerized para-xylene ($PP_PX$) deposited by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) was used as the barrier layer on the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate to improve lifetime of the flexible organic light-emitting diodes (FOLEDs). The $PP_PX$ barrier layer deposited on top of the PET substrate with plasma power of 30 W at deposition pressure of 0.2 torr showed transmittance spectra good enough to be applied in FOLED on PET substrates. FOLEDs with the $PP_PX$ barrier layer (barrier-FOLEDs) showed similar I-V and B-V characteristics to FOLEDs without the $PP_PX$ layer (control-FOLEDs). The lifetime of barrier-FOLED was two times longer than that of the control-FOLED. With $PP_PX$ passivation layers, lifetimes of both control and barrier-FOLEDs were improved by more than 4 times. These results show that PECVD deposited $PP_PX$ layers can be used as barrier layers for FOLEDs on plastic substrates as well as passivation layers for general OLEDs.

  • 척추동물 11목 21종의 췌장에서 insulin(B)세포, glucagon(A)세포, somatostatin( D)세포 및 pancreatic polypeptide(PP)세포 등을 면역세포화학적 방법으로 동정하여 이들의 출현율, 분포양상 및 형띨 등을 계통별로 비교하였다. 포유강에서는 전형적인 췌도를 형성하였고, 조강에서는 대 ·소췌도로 구분되었다. 내분비세포의 크기는 계통간의 차이가 있어서 B세포와 PP세포는 포유강의 것이 조강의 것에 비해 윤으나, A세포와 D세포는 그 반대이었다. 세포의 모양은 B세포의 경우 두 강에서 대체로 원형 및 난원형이었고, A세포와 D세포는 원형, 난원형 및 방추형이었다. PP세포는 방추형 및 난원형이 대다수 이었으며 간혹 원형 또는 다각형 등의 모습도 나타났다. 세포들의 출현율은 두 강에서 모두 B세포가가장 많았고, A, D및 PP세포 순으로 낮아졌다. B세포는포유강이 조강보다높았고, A, D및 PP세포는조강이 포유강보다 많았다. B세포는 조강의 경우 대췌도 주변부와 소췌도 중앙부에 분포하였고, 포유강에서는 중앙부에 균등하게 분포하였다. A와 0세포는 포유강에서 주로 췌도 주면부에 분포하나, 조강에서는 췌도중앙부에 위치하였다. PP세포는 두 강에서 대부분 췌도 주변부에 위치하였다. 일반적으로 두강에서 모두 외분비 선포조직에서도 내분비세포들이 출현하였으며 일부 종에서는 췌관상피에서도 내분비세포들이 드물게 나타났다.

Multiple Inheritance and English Locative Inversion

  • One of the controversial issues in English locative inversion (LI) construction( e. g. Under the tree sat a woman) has been the functional status of preverbal PP and postverbal NP, i.e. whether they are a subject, a complement, or filer (topic) Based on the distributional parallelisms between the PP and NP on the one hand and an ordinary subject and filler on the other this paper proposes that the PP has a dual function as a subject and filler, while the NP also has some subject properties that the PP does not have These mixed functional properties are analyzed in the theory of HPSG expecially with the versions recently developed by Sag(1997) Manning and Sag(1999) and Ginzburg and Sag(to appear). This analysis claims that the LI construction needs to satisfy two general, independent constraints head-subject- phrase and head-filler-phrase. This position suggests that the English LI construction is an instance of the peripheral phenomena whose construction specific constraint is inherited from more general core constraints. Role of $Ca^{2+}$ in the Stimulation of Glucose Transport by Insulin in Adipocytes

  • We investigated the role of $Ca^{2+}$ and protein kinases/phosphatases in the stimulatory effect of insulin on glucose transport. In isolated rat adipocytes, the simple omission of $CaCl_2$ from the incubation medium significantly reduced, but did not abolish, insulin-stimulated 2-deoxy glucose (2-DG) uptake. Pre-loading adipocytes with intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ chelator, 5,5'-dimethyl bis (o-aminophenoxy)ethane-N,N,N'N' tetraacetic acetoxymethyl ester (5,5'-dimethyl BAPTA/AM) completely blocked the stimulation. Insulin raised intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ concentration $([Ca^{2+}]_i)$ about 1.7 times the basal level of $72{\pm}5$ nM, and 5,5'-dimethyl BAPTA/AM kept it constant at the basal level. This correlation between insulin-induced increases in 2-DG uptake and $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ indicates that the elevation of $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ may be prerequisite for the stimulation of glucose transport. Studies with inhibitors (ML-9, KN-62, cyclosporin A) of $Ca^{2+}-calmodulin$ dependent protein kinases/phosphatases also indicate an involvement of intracellular $Ca^{2+}.$ Additional studies with okadaic acid and calyculin A, protein phosphatase-1 (PP-1) and 2A (PP-2A) inhibitors, indicate an involvement of PP-1 in insulin action on 2-DG uptake. These results indicate an involvement of $Ca^{2+}-dependent$ signaling pathway in insulin action on glucose transport.

Miscibility Improvement in PP and EPDM Blends via Introducing Specific Interaction (특정상호작용에 의한 폴리프로필렌/EPDM 블렌드의 상용성 향상)

  • Miscibility improvement between polypropylene(PP) and ethylene-propylene-diene-terpolymer (EPDM) was studied by introducing specific interaction into both polymers. PP was modified by grafting maleic anhydride(MAH) onto backbone, leading to MAH-grafted PP(PP-g-MAH). Sulfonated EPDM ionomer neutralized with bivalent zinc cation(ZnSEPDM) was used as one component. The blends of PP-g-MAH and ZnSEPDM were prepared at $200^{\circ}C$ in Brabender Roller Mixer. Fourier transform-infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopic and dynamic mechanical studies have been performed to investigate the miscibility. FT-IR spectral peak corresponding to carbonyl group in PP-g-MAH and that to sulfonate group in ZnSEPDM were shifted to lower and higher frequency with increasing ZnSEPDM content, respectively, in the blends. Glass transition temperature of ZnSEPDM was increased up to 70wt.% of ZnSEPDM, and again decreased above 70wt.%. It can be concluded from the shift of FT-IR characteristic peaks and the changes of glass transition temperatures that the miscibility between PP and EPDM was improved via introducing specific interaction, i.e., dipole-ion interaction.
