  • According as the density of prosthetic by casting among the prosthetic restorations is increasing now, the definition and the bounds as to the casting, the method of making the right casting and the establishment of concepts about a minute report and so on, the establishment of the basic principles like those are unavoidable, and then the casting shrinkage must be compensated by setting expansion thermal expansion. Hygroscopic expansion in making the good casting types as we demonstrated that already asbestos lining. We confirmed the fact that the considerable concern about the surface tension and the gas inspiration? Is necessary in making better the casting.

  • Chitin was isolated from crab shells by modified Hackman's method, which was treated again with aqueous sodium hydroxide solution to give alkali chitin(sodium alkoxide of chitin). And after, the alkali chitin is allowed to react with monochloroacetic acid to synthesize 6-O-(carboxymethyl) chitin [CM-Chitin] under diminished pressure. In order to synthesize high performance CM-Chitin as hygroscopic agent, it was measured that the yield and degree of subsititution of each CM-Chitin according to molar ratio(monochloroacetic acid equivalent mol/N-acetyl-D-glucosamine residue) and their moisture-absorption and moisture-release properties were measured and compared with those of hyaluronic acid. The moisture-absorption and moisture-release properties of CM-Chitin, especially 0.8 in degree of substitution, were found quite similar to those of hyaluronic acid. The preliminary results show that CM-Chitin might be used as hygroscopic agent instead of hyaluronic acid in field of cosmetics.

  • Alkali metal fluoride sources (MFs) such as potassium fluoride (KF) have been widely used as a fluoride source in the nucleophilic displacement reaction. However, they have low solubility and nucleophilicity in most of the organic solvents. Bulky fluoride sources such as tetrabutylammonium fluoride (TBAF) were substituted for MFs to improve these properties. However, hygroscopic property of TBAF makes it less convenient for handling as well as its strong basic property can make the side-reaction occur. Recently, novel fluoride sources have been developed to solve these problems. In this paper, we would like to introduce coordinated fluoride sources as a new fluoride sources such as tetrabutylammonium tetra(t-butyl alcohol)-coordinated fluoride, crown ether metal complex fluoride, and various bulky alcohols coordinated fluoride complexes. In particular, bulky alcohol coordinated fluoride source could generated by the controlled hydrogen-bonded of fluoride with alcohols and these fluoride sources have better stability and reactivity with showing low hygroscopic property. The study of these fluoride sources will help to understand the characteristic of [$^{18}F$]fluoride for increasing the radiochemical yield in the [$^{18}F$]radiofluorination.

  • In this study, nine kinds of polyimides were synthesized from 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic dianhydride (PMDA), 4,4'-(4,4'-isopropylidenediphenoxy)bis(phthalic anhydride) (BPADA), m-pheny lenediamine (m-PDA) and 4,4'-oxydianiline (ODA) by controlling molar ratio of monomers. Synthesized polyimides were used as insulator films for 2-layer Flexible Copper Clad Laminate(FCCL) which were manufactured by the casting method. Glass transition temperature and thermal degradation temperature for 5% weight loss of the polyimide film were improved by increasing contents of m-PDA and PMDA, respectively. Water absorption of polyimide film was reduced by increasing contents of ODA and BPADA which have relatively long structure, respectively. Peel strength of 2-layer FCCL was improved by increasing contents of ODA and BPADA.

  • This paper presents a feasibility study of a fresh air load reduction system by using an underground double floor space. The fresh air is introduced into the double slab space and passes through the opening bored into the footing beam. The air is cooled by the heat exchange with the inside surface of the double slab space in summer, and heated in winter. This system not only reduces sensible heat load of the fresh air by heat exchange with earth but also reduces latent heat load of the fresh air by ad/de-sorption of underground double slab concrete. In this paper, we proposed a simplified presumption method for the prediction of cooling and heating performance in the system. In conclusion the proposed method has been verified by comparing with the calculated value of the numerical analysis model by using nonlinear two-dimension hygroscopic question.

  • A mathematical modeling for the drying process of hygroscopic porous media, such as wood, has been developed in the past decades. The governing equations for wood drying consist of three conservation equations with respect to the three state variables, moisture content, temperature and air density. They are involving simultaneous, highly coupled heat and mass transfer phenomena. In recent, the equations were extended to account for material heterogeneity through the density of the wood and via the density variation of the material process, capillary pressure, absolute permeability, bound water diffusivity and effective thermal conductivity. In this paper, we investigate the drying behavior for the three primary variables of the drying process in terms of control volume finite element method to the heterogeneous transport model on one-dimensional grid.

  • Diatomite, bentonite and zeolite were used as porous materials for fabricating hygroscopic panels. Moisture adsorption and desorption of porous materials were investigated and hydrothermal method was applied to fabricate panels. Cheolwon diatomite and Pohang zeolite showed excellent characteristics of moisture adsorption and desorption. These characteristics were caused by higher surface area and pore volume of porous materials. Moisture adsorption contents were influenced by surface area and pore volume of panels, and surface area more effected on moisture adsorption. Moisture adsorption content of panel with 10% Pohang zeolite was 180g/m$^2$and that of 10% Cheolwon diatomite was 170g/m$^2$. Moisture desorption content of panel with 10% Pohang zeolite was 105g/m$^2$. Moisture adsorption contents of panel with porous materials were higher than that of panel without porous materials.

  • $TiO_{2-x}$ thin film humidity sensors have been fabricated by sputtering method and their physical and hygroscopic characteristics have been investigated. The sputtering conditions and sintering conditions affect the sensor's sensitivity toward humidity. AES and SEM micrographs were taken for the analysis of crystal structures, surface morphology caused by adsorbed water vapour. $TiO_{2-x}$ humidity sensors showed negative impedance-humidity characteristics and the sensor which was fabricated by experimental condition 2(rf power of 200W) showed higher sensitivity and linearity than others. Then the slope of the sensor was about $0.794\;K{\Omega}/%RH$ and the response time of $TiO_{2-x}$ humidity sensors was about 2 min. for adsorption and about 3 min. for desorption at the operating temperature of $30^{\circ}C$.

  • Based on the measurement data of the particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of less than or equal to a nominal 10 ${\mu}m$ (PM10) by the ${\beta}$-ray absorption method (BAM) equipped with an inlet heater and the gravimetric method (GMM) at two coastal sites in Korea, the optimal inlet heater temperature was estimated. By using a gas/particle equilibrium model, Simulating Composition of Atmospheric Particles at Equilibrium 2 (SCAPE2), water content in aerosols was estimated with varying temperature to find the optimal temperature increase to make the PM10 concentration by BAM comparable to that by GMM. It was estimated that the heated air temperature inside the BAM should be increased up to $35{\sim}45^{\circ}C$ at both sites. At this temperature range, evaporation of volatile aerosol components was minor. Similar ($30{\sim}50^{\circ}C$) temperature range was also obtained from the calculation based on the absolute humidity which changed with ambient absolute humidity and chemical composition of hygroscopic species.
