Purpose: This study is a repetitive comparative analysis of a qualitative case study that carried out a home visiting oral health education program. Method: This study conducted an interview survey through medical examination by interview before and after the home visiting oral health education and measured some pathogenic microorganism counts in the denture. Results: There was a positive change in the self oral care ability of the elderly at home after home visiting oral health education, including the behavior of self management of dentures, and some pathogenic microorganism counts in the dentures. Conclusion: The home visiting oral health education of home care service centers can improve oral health care for the elderly at home.
Objectives: This study aimed to check the effect of preschool visiting oral health education programs and provide baseline data for an oral health education program that suggests the necessity of oral health education in children's living places. Methods: The preschool visiting oral health education was conducted with the parents of 3-year-old and 4-year-old children at a preschool in the jurisdiction of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, with teachers observing the education, and oral health educators to examine the effect of the oral health education, the effectiveness of the education, the status of oral health care, and the degree of cooperation for the education. Results: Regarding oral health behaviors after the education program, the attitude toward brushing teeth after food intake increased from 2.86 to 3.17 and thinking of the relationship with dental caries and eating food increased from 2.57 to 2.90. The satisfaction with the children's health education was very high at over 4.9 points in most items. The teachers' interest in children's oral care was 4.26 points, and the degree of their cooperation for education was 4.41 points; 96.4% responded that they were willing to conduct reeducation. Conclusions: Children's oral health education should be conducted steadily and repeatedly.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify health education needs of the multicultural family as perceived by visiting nurses. Methods: Mixed method was applied. A questionnaire was distributed to 184 visiting nurses. Three focus group interviews were subsequently conducted in order to obtain a greater understanding of nurses' experience of health education. Results: Visiting nurses were mainly providing education about pregnancy, delivery and baby care. Health education needs of the multicultural family as perceived by visiting nurses were classified according to four categories : diet, hygiene, contraception and family planning, and communication. Barriers to health education of visiting nurses were a lack of adequate health education materials and communication problems. Conclusion: To achieve effective health care of the multicultural family by visiting nurses, customized multi-language health education material focusing on five subjects, pregnancy and delivery, diet, hygiene, contraception and family planning, and communication, with easy terms and simple paragraphs is required.
Objectives: This case - study was conducted to assess the oral health status change of the elderly through visiting oral care interventions based on a community health care project. Methods: Professional dental hygiene treatment and oral health education, including brushing using interdental toothbrushes and sponge brushes, were performed on three senior citizens who received home visiting oral health care benefit. Results: The subject's periodontal conditions improved including gingival inflammation and bleeding. The gingival color tured pink by controlling the dental plaque. Conclusions: Visiting oral health care contributed to the improvement of oral health of the elderly. Objectives : This study was to examine the state of customized visiting oral health programs in a bid to help facilitate the unified operation of the programs and the development of required guidelines. Methods : The subjects in this study were 49 dental hygienists who were professionals responsible for customized visiting health care programs across the nation. Results : 1. Regarding the form of employment of the dental hygienists were investigated many contract and daily workers. 2. As to the possession of equipment necessary for visiting oral health programs, denture cleaners(12.2%) were most widely possessed in some regions, followed by mobile scalers(10.2%) and mobile suctions(8.2%). In terms of expendable devices and materials, dental mirrors, pincettes and explorers were the most widely possessed dental checkup devices, and the most widely possessed oral hygiene supplies were toothbrushes, interdental brushes and denture cleaners. Those devices and materials were in more possession than the other types of devices and materials. The most widely possessed equipment for educational purpose was laptop computers, followed by beam projectors and screens. The most widely possessed teaching materials were dentiform, followed by CD-ROMs. 3. Those whom they visited the most for oral health care service were elderly people, followed by the disabled and patients with chronic diseases. The dental hygienists who went out to visit those people outnumbered the others who stayed at public health centers. Concerning the types of visiting oral health care service, the most prevalent service provided to the elderly included denture cleaning/management, oral massage and preventive treatment against dental caries. The most dominant service provided to the disabled involved education of the oral health care act, preventive treatment against dental caries and toothbrushing by professionals. The most common service offered to patients with chronic diseases was education of the oral health care act and oral health education. The dental hygienists paid a visit to a mean of 5.8 households a day. The average weekly number of households cared by the dental hygienists was 27.3. It took a mean of 37.1 minutes for them to take care of each household. 4. As for satisfaction level with the implementation of the visiting oral health programs, they expressed the greatest satisfaction at teamwork with professionals($3.56{\pm}0.94$), followed by the professionalism of their work($3.21{\pm}0.94$) and workload($3.08{\pm}0.94$). Their satisfaction level with the work conditions required for creative job performance($2.75{\pm}0.98$) and partnership with other institutions($2.64{\pm}1.03$) was below 3.0. In regard to the impact of their characteristics, marital status made a statistically significant difference to satisfaction level with workload. The unmarried dental hygienists were more pleased with their workload than the married ones(p<0.05). 5. As to needs for education for professionalism improvement, they asked for education about visiting oral health care skills the most, followed by education about oral health care for patients with chronic diseases, education of planning/evaluation and education of oral health care for the disabled. Conclusions : The top priority for the vitalization of the programs was the procurement of budget, followed by the procurement of equipment and educational media and the procurement of human resources.
Objectives: This study confirms the current status of visiting oral health-care services for the elderly to draw policy implications for revitalization of the visiting oral health care services in the future. Methods: First, a survey was conducted on health centers about the current status of the elderly visiting oral health-care service and how to revitalize it. Next, the number of oral hygiene services provided to the elderly was checked in the long-term care insurance system. Results: Oral health education (100%) was the most common practice in visiting oral health-care service for the elderly, and the most difficult thing in providing services was the lack of dental hygienists (38.9%). The status of oral health-care services in the long-term care insurance system for elderly revealed that the total number of service claims has been confirmed to be zero since the introduction of the system. Conclusions: Despite the existence of a system that provides elderly visiting oral healthcare services, to revitalize it, the law must be amended to secure a dental hygienist as the main agent of the activity and to further take responsibility for autonomous authority and performance.
The purpose of this study was to examine the state of visiting oral health programs and the opinions of dental hygienists on the programs in a bid to help boost the efficiency of visiting oral health programs, To meet the goals, 341 dental hygienists in public dental clinics across the nation were asked to join a questionaire survey via e-mail in September 2007, After their views were investigated, the following findings were given: 1. As to difficulties in fulfilling visiting health care programs, a shortage of professional knowledge was viewed as the greatest hurdle, All their scores were above average, which implied that they were not able to perform the programs successfully. 3. As for the necessity and additional expected effects of visiting oral health programs, the largest number of the dental hygienists who carried them out expected that the programs would serve to change the mind-set of locals about themselves, And the others who didn't placed the most emphasis on cooperation from other departments, and the two groups had a statistically significantly different opinion. 4. Concerning the details of visiting health care programs, the dental hygienists who performed the programs found it most necessary to provide oral health education to employees and families to be visited, The others who didn't considered it most necessary to offer oral health education to people to be visited, The necessity of denture and prosthesis was least stressed by both groups, and they took a significantly different view of treatment for dental diseases, denture and prosthesis. 5. Regarding how to bolster visiting health care programs, the dental hygienist group that carried them out put more emphasis on everything suggested in the survey, Specifically, they attached greater importance to securing sufficient budget, establishing legal foundation, setting up an administration system and determining the directions for the programs in a realistic manner, which signified the desperate need for administrative and institutional backing.
The purpose of this current study was to examine the effects of nutrition and food safety management support by the Center for Children's Foodservice Management (CCFSM) in foodservice facilities for children in the Ulsan area. From December 2014 to July 2015, the status of nutrition practices and hygiene practices was assessed by dietitians using nutrition and hygiene practice checklists. The subjects of study were 48 institutional foodservice facilities for children. Some nutrition practice items showed significant increases in average scores of 'using CCFSM menus (P<0.001), revising menus (P<0.05), and reconfirm menus (P<0.01)' from pre-support to post-support. Regarding hygiene practices, some items between pre-support to post-support showed significant increases in average scores of 'having equipment for hand washing & disinfecting' (P<0.01), 'wearing disinfected clothing for kitchen hygienically' (P<0.05), 'proper sterilization' (P<0.05), 'recording the origin of ingredients' (P<0.01), 'use of different knives/cutting boards' (P<0.05), and 'an appropriate thawing process' (P<0.05) from pre-support to post-support. Based on the above results, we found that nutrition and hygiene management support by CCFSM in foodservice facilities for children had a positive influence on status of some nutrition and food safety practices.
This study is to analyze the personality trait and dental fear of high school students. This study is conducted with a total of 603 first grader at high school in DaeGu city from 1st September to 30th October, 2009. In prevention and dental treatment knowledge category, the average score of female are higher than male. The concern of oral health, the experience of oral health education and the number of toothbrush are significantly different in the knowledge category. In dental fear category, the number of dental pain, the visiting is treatment, the recognize of dental state, the number of toothbrush and the change of dental visiting date are significantly different. In the prevention knowledge according to dental fear state, low fear group 7.03 is higher than high fear group. In the dental treatment knowledge according to dental fear state, high fear group 7.15 is higher than low fear group. In personal temperament, there are not significantly relationship between prevention knowledge, dental treatment knowledge and dental fear. These findings are basis to development of education programs which were included prevention and dental treatment knowledge before visiting dental clinics for reducing dental fear.
This study was performed to collect basic data for the development of effective oral health education program of lower graders in elementary school. The subject in this study were 704 first-year, second-year and third-year in Hyoje elementary school. The authors collected the tissue where dental caries involved. the possibilities of dental caries prevention. cariogenic food and noncariogenic food. time and frequency of toothbrushing. size of using toothbrush, intake frequency of cariogenic food and the experience with visiting dental clinics, the purpose of visiting dental clinics and fear for dental treatment. The collected data were analyzed. The finding of this study were as follows: 1. Twenty-four percent of students had not correct understanding about the tissue which dental caries are involved. Eleven percent of students thought that it was impossible to prevent dental caries. 2. Sixty-four percent of student brushed their teeth before going to bed, and 63.0% of responded students brushed their teeth twice or more a day. Seventy-eight percent of students used small toothbrush. and there was a Significant difference of size of using toothbrush among the first, second and third graders(P<0.01). Sixty-nine percent of students intake cariogenic food once or more a day. 3. Eighty-six percent of students had experienced with visiting denial clinics. sixty-two percent of students visited dental clinics when they had a toothache. and there was a significant difference of the purpose of visiting dental clinics among the first. second and third graders(P<0.01). Seventeen percent of students responded that dental treatment is fearful there was a significant difference of fear for denial treatment among the first, second and third graders(P<0.05). 4. It was recommended that effective oral health education programs should be developed to increase toothbrushing after breakfast, to decrease intake frequency of cariogenic food, to increase frequency of visiting dental clinics regularly, and to reduced fear for dental treatment.
