  • Purpose: This study was conducted to test the effect of a scenario based hand hygiene education program on hand hygiene knowledge, hand hygiene perception, hand hygiene compliance and hand hygiene method in nursing students. Methods: A non-equivalent control group, non-synchronized quasi-experimental design was used. Forty five nursing students participated in the study with 22 in the experimental group and 23 in the control group. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2-test$, t-test, and repeated measures of ANOVA. Results: There were significant increases in hand hygiene knowledge (t=-4.28, p<.001) and accuracy of the hand hygiene method by week (F=7.33, p<.001). However, hand hygiene perception (t=-1.67, p=.102) and hand hygiene compliance rate (F=7.33, p=.405) were not significantly changed. Conclusion: The effects of the scenario based hand hygiene education program provided in this study were excellent, compared to the other hand hygiene education programs. Moreover, as a result of investigating the education effects through direct observation for 4 weeks, appropriate feedback was offered in the third week, and it was found that maintaining the effect was necessary. However, the current status of hand hygiene compliance and accuracy of methods for ensuring hand hygiene need to be studied further.

  • Vocal hygiene education is an indirect training approach to improve vocal function by educating all facets of optimal vocal health. Satisfaction levels of participants might be an important component of this indirect therapy for voice disorders. The authors aimed to investigate the satisfaction levels of vocal hygiene education in 51 patients with voice problems. We classified voice disorders of the participants according to three etiological categories (subgroups): organic, neurogenic, and functional. The survey consisted of three parts: 1) a condition of vocal hygiene education, 2) a degree of satisfaction of the present education, and 3) a request for future education. Participants responded to each item of the survey using a five-point Likert scale of 1 to 5 (1 being not at all and 5 being extremely). They also wrote down personal comments of improvement. Participants scored the vocal hygiene education offered by the speech-language pathologists between '3' and '4'. Specifically, the participants were highly satisfied with the specific and comprehensible explanation/instruction given by their speech-language pathologists. However, they were less satisfied with the tuition fee for the therapy sessions. Vocal hygiene education is offered individually to people in a clinical setting. Our results support the notion that vocal hygiene education can be an integral aspect of the treatment of voice problems in most cases.

  • This study developed Bucheon customized children meal hygiene central control point (CCP) to promote practical hygiene and safety management in a children meal supply organization in Bucheon. Education was administered to 54 organizations using the developed CCP, and the study evaluated kitchen hygiene management improvement effects. When the effects of hygiene education in eight categories (CCP 1~8) were examined, total scores increased by 9.31 from $22.36{\pm}5.039$ before education to $31.67{\pm}3.262$ with a statistically significant difference (p<0.001). After CCP education, personal hygiene management, food material management, cooking management, serving management, facility and equipment management improved significantly. The result demonstrates that CCP education was effective for kitchen hygiene management. Using CCP education, overall CCP education items were significantly improved, but there was almost no significant increase in the non-relevant item of CCP education. As there was an average difference in the non-relevant item of CCP education after follow-up evaluation, CCP education had an overall effect on hygiene and safety improvement. Based on the above result, the effect could be potentiated if CCP is complemented, if a systematic hygiene management manual is developed for the nationwide children meal supply organization, and if CCP education media is continually developed along with education.

A questionnaire was distributed to 250 contract foodservice employees and a total of 232 responses were received and analyzed. The overall score for hygiene practices of contract foodservice employees was 3.89 based on a 5-point scale. Cross-contamination was prominent (highest score at 4.46) and the heating temperature was less prominent (lowest score at 3.49). The factors most affecting contract foodservice employees were their work period, the size of the contract foodservice management company, the number of meals served daily, the frequency of meal service per day and the frequency of hygiene education. Compared to small and medium-sized contract foodservice management companies, the major contract foodservice management companies showed higher scores for refrigerator/freezer control (P<0.001), vegetable/fruit disinfection (P<0.001), thawing (P<0.001), heating temperature (P<0.001), cleaning/disinfection (P<0.01), and personal hygiene (P<0.05). The frequency of hygiene education had a significant effect on the performance levels for refrigerator/freezer control (P<0.001), vegetable/fruit disinfection (P<0.001), thawing (P<0.001), heating temperature (P<0.001), cleaning/disinfection control (P<0.001), food supply control (P<0.05), and personal hygiene (P<0.05). • Education should consider the social consensus that changes according to the times and the social environment, and it is also necessary to consider the technically useful subjects. We collected and reported the 4-year course curriculum of dental hygiene when Korean dental hygiene education has continued over 50 years. Each 4-year course curriculum was collected by searching each university website, or requested by email. The curriculum of 23 among 27 schools was collected. According to the classification of dental hygiene in the dental hygienist national examination classification or the Korean society of dental hygiene science, the subjects of the course were divided into clinical dental hygiene, clinical dental treatment support, basic dental hygiene, social and educational dental hygiene, and collected 23 curriculum courses. The average major curriculum was 104.9 credits and the average number of subjects in major courses was 34.3. The average subjects' number of clinical dental hygienic courses was 33.9 (37.5% of the total major credits), clinical dental treatment support was 30.6 (30.2% of the total major credits), basic dental hygiene was 21.8 (20.8% of the total major credits), and social and educational dental hygiene courses was 13.6 (13.0% of total major credits). Integrated subjects' name in clinical dental hygiene was used in all schools of the survey, such as clinical dental hygiene education (and practice), comprehensive dental hygiene education, and integrated dental hygiene. There were 13 schools (56.5%) that use the integrated name in clinical dental treatment support, such as clinical dentistry. There were 14 schools (60.9%) to open dental clinic management, and 22 schools (95.7%) to open national health insurance claims. The basic dental hygiene curriculum maintained the title of each subject and social and educational dental hygiene education was established in most schools, such as community dental health, oral health statistics, and oral health education. Other subjects were English conversation in dental clinic (8 schools) education, clinical dental treatment support, basic science in dental hygiene, social and educational dental hygiene. We knew the clinical dental hygiene and clinical dental treatment support were changing into the integrated subjects, and most schools run dental hygiene research.
