  • InP quantum dot (QD) - organosilicon nanocomposites were synthesized and their photoluminescence quenching was mainly investigated because of their applicability to white LEDs (light emitting diodes). The as-synthesized InP QDs which were capped with myristic acid (MA) were incompatible with typical silicone encapsulants. Post ligand exchange the MA with a new ligand, 3-aminopropyldimethylsilane (APDMS), resulted in soluble InP QDs bearing Si-H groups on their surface (InP-APDMS) which allow embedding the QDs into vinyl-functionalized silicones through direct chemical bonding, overcoming the phase separation problem. However, the ligand exchange from MA to APDMS caused a significant decrease in the photoluminescent efficiency which is interpreted by ligand induced surface corrosion relying on theoretical calculations. The InP-APDMS QDs were cross-linked by 1,4-divinyltetramethylsilylethane (DVMSE) molecules via hydrosilylation reaction. As the InP-organosilicon nanocomposite grew, its UV-vis absorbance was increased and at the same time, the PL spectrum was red-shifted and, very interestingly, the PL was quenched gradually. Three PL quenching mechanisms are regarded as strong candidates for the PL quenching of the QD nano-composites, namely the scattering effect, Forster resonance energy transfer (FRET) and cross-linker tension preventing the QD's surface relaxation.

  • Polydisperse oligo(PO-b-EO) allyl ether siloxane surfactants were synthesized by the hydrosilylation reaction of OMTS with Allyl-oligo(PO-b-EO) series. The surface tension of siloxane surfactants increased with increasing the EO chain length while it decreased with increasing the PO ratio. However, the sedimentation time of the aqueous solution showed opposite trend to the surface tension data. Both the surface tension and sedimentation time of the aqueous solution containing inorganic electrolyte gradually decreased as the content of inorganic electrolyte increased because of the surface arrangement of surfactant molecules. However, they increased with an increase of pH values due to the hydrolysis of the siloxane backbone. The $C_p$ values tended to increase with the increase in the EO chain length and decrease of the PO ratio. It seems that intermolecular interaction between PO/EO block copolymer and water affects the variation of transition temperature.

  • The selective cleavage of phenylsilane by triflic acid gives silyltriflates. The removal of phenyl groups in $Ph_3SiH$ and carbosilane polymer $(Ph_2SiCH_2CH_2CH_2)n$ with one to two equiv of triflic acid leads to formation of mono- and disubstituted silyltriflate ester bonds. Reaction with allylmagnesium bromide produces corresponding derivatives with good yields. An organosilane dendrimer with allylated carbosilane polymer has been synthesized up to G3 using repetitive allylation hydrosilylation cycles.

  • ${\alpha},{\omega}$-Hydroxypropyl polydimethylsiloxane (HO-PDMS) was prepared by hydrosilylation of hydrogen terminated polydimethylsiloxane with allyl alcohol. Polydimethylsiloxane modified urethane with isocyanate group (PSU) was prepared from cyclic trimer of hexamethylenediisocyanate with HO-PDMS. PDMS modified urethane base resin with acrylic group (PSUA) was prepared from the urethane reaction of PSU with isocyanate group and 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate. Their structures were characterized using FTIR and NMR. Coating materials were prepared by mixing PSUA, acrylic hardner, photo-initiator, and solvent and coated on PET film to obtain flexible and hard coating film by UV irradiation. Transparency of coating film was 89.7%, contact angle, $88^{\circ}$, and pencil hardness, 3H.

  • Recently developed liquid silicone rubber (LSR) can be cured by platinum catalyzed additional hydrosilylation mechanism and has the advantage of no byproduct compared to traditional millable peroxide curing silicone rubber. We investigated the characteristics of dielectric breakdown of silicone rubber and adhesion properties between semi-conductive LSR and insulating LSR for high voltage application of pre-molded joint (PMJ). In order to understand the dielectric breakdown characteristics, we used the sheet samples and the paired type rogowski insert electrode system. The breakdown strength and adhesion strength of LSR (E-3) were superior to those of several silicone rubbers. Adhesion strength could be improved by curing at high temperature without post-curing process or enhanced by post-curing process. When LSR (E-3) was cured at $(150^{\circ}C{\times}10min$ semi-conductive )${\times}$ ($175^{\circ}C{\times}10min$ insulation), it showed the high breakdown strength with low standard deviation, and good adhesion strength. In this results, we could apply this process to the fabrication of PMJ without post-curing.

  • Polysiloxanes with methacrylate groups at both terminals were synthesized by a hydrosilylation reaction between allyl methacrylate and hydride-terminated polysiloxanes. The polysiloxane methacrylates with high molecular weights could be prepared through the reaction of polysiloxane methacrylates and octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane with an acid catalyst. The structures of the prepared polysiloxane methacrylates were verified by $^1$H- and $^{29}Si-NMR.$ The polysiloxane methacrylates were freely miscible with silicone oils. Polysiloxane films with microphase-separated liquid silicone oil were prepared by photo-crosslinking the mixture of polysiloxane methacrylates and silicone oil. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the films showed that the size of silicone oil droplets became smaller with a lower loading of silicone oil, lower molecular weight of polysiloxane methacrylate, and lower molecular weight of silicone oil.

  • Porous silicon exhibiting dual optical properties, both $Febry-P{\acute{e}}rot$ fringe (optical reflectivity) and photoluminescence had been developed and used as chemical sensors. Porous silicon samples were prepared by an electrochemical etch of p-type silicon wafer (boron-doped, <100> orientation, resistivity ; $1-10{\Omega}cm$). Two different types of porous silicon, fresh porous silicon (Si-H terminated) and oxidized porous silicon (Si-OH terminated)by the thermal oxidation, were prepared. Then the samples were exposed to the vapor of various organics, such as methanol, acetone, hexane, and toluene. Both reflectivity and photoluminescence were simultaneously measured under the exposure of organic vapors for sensing VOC's. These surface-modified samples showed unique respond in both reflectivity and photoluminescence with various organic vapors. While polar molecules exhibit greater quenching photoluminescence, molecules having higher vapor pressure show greater red shift for reflectivity.
