To examine the EC model in a culture medium, basic culture medium of Rush (2005) and EC model of Robinson and Strokes (1959) were applied analyzing the equivalence ion total amount, the EC variable of cation and anion. Following the experiential translation by Steiner (1980), 130 optimized domestic and foreign culture media for crop growth were utilized, and estimated EC model was also demonstrated. Results from basic culture medium of Rush (2005) suggests an estimated EC by equivalence ion total amount and high reliable regressive model with 0.96 y = 1.33x - 0.23 of 0.96 as value $R^2$. It was found out that the change in concentration of positive ion and anion did not differ significantly with the increase and decrease of EC, however, there occurred a slight variable range. The change brings about a bigger anion influence than the previously reported positive ion, seemingly like those based on nitride ion and sulfur ion. The above EC estimated models confirmed that with optimized 130 domestic and foreign culture media for crop growth, the value derived will be as follows: $R^2$ = 0.98 with y = 1.23x - 0.02. In addition, the contour analysis of positive ion and anion for EC, with popularly known concentration range of EC $1.5-2.5dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ reveals an equivalent of more than $11meq{\cdot}L^{-1}$ for positive ion and $15meq{\cdot}L^{-1}$ for anion. On the other hand, the left bottom, low concentration $1.5dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ and the right above, high concentration $2.5dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, for both positive ion and anion existed differently in a proper culture medium concentration. This study adapted variables of both positive ion and anion of EC simultaneously, unlike in the previous culture medium by ion ratio in mutual ratio of Steiner (1980), and offers an EC model that can estimate levels or positive ion and anion in proper concentration, EC $1.5-2.5dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, with distributed features of ions.

This research was performed to determine the appropriate daily last irrigation time to enhance the plant growth and the water and fertilizer use efficiencies in coir bag culture for tomato plant. The time to finish the daily irrigation was set by 1, 2, 3 and 4 hours before the sunset. The water content in the substrate was greatly affected by the last irrigation time. The earlier the last time, the greater the daily fluctuation of water contents in the substrate. The daily irrigation times were not affected by using irrigation management system controlled by drainage electrodes or the physiochemical properties of coir. The growth characteristics were not significantly different among the treatments. The highest marketable yields were obtained in the treatment finishing two hours before sunset, and the lowest yields were obtained in the the treatment finishing 4 hours before sunset. Based on the result from surveying quantity of irrigated water for 128 days of the experiment period, the water and fertilizer use efficiencies were lowest in the treatment finishing 4 hours before sunset, and the highest in the treatment finishing 2 hours before sunset. In terms of plant growth, yields, water and fertilizer use efficiencies, 2 hours before sunset treatment was determined as the most economical and desirable irrigation schedule.
Nutrients and water absorption by Citrus unshiu Marc. cv. Miyagawa Wase were examined using spray type of out-door hydroponics system. Three different concentration levels of nutrient solution were treated to citrus trees to examine nutrient uptake. To do so, concentration and the volume change of nutrient solution was measured for each treatment. By weighing the volume of solution and citrus trees, amounts of water uptake and fresh weight increase were observed periodically. Water uptake by trees increased as tree grew and time elapsed, but was lower at high level of nutrient concentration than the rest, due partly to the reduction in hydraulic conductance and to the sustained high salt concentration. Rapid increase in fresh weight and nutrient uptake occurred from May to July and from August to September. The amounts of nutrient uptake were significantly different among nutrient levels: the higher concentration, the greater uptake by citrus tree. The absorbed amounts of $NO_3$, K and Ca were much higher than those of $NH_4$, S, P, Mg, and Fe. Most mineral contents in leaves were proportional to the concentration of supplied nutrient solutions. From the results of nutrient absorption and contents in leaves at different levels of nutrient solutions, the composition of major elements for citrus nutrient solution can be modified as follows: 27.1, 16.5, 66.0, 80.0, and $24.0mg\;L^{-1}$ for N, P, K, Ca, and Mg, respectively.
The effect of planting densities on the growth of $Sedum$$samentosum$ (4 collections) was investigated using nutrient film technique (NFT) with Yamazaki' lettuce nutrient solution (1982) from September 5th to October 24th in non-heating plastic film house. At 40 days, the plant height of 4 collections showed the range of 15.0-18.9 cm, and mean plant height was high the order of $10{\times}10$, $2.5{\times}2.5$, and $5{\times}5cm$. The growth of 'Pohang' and 'Wando' collections was better compared to that of 'Gunsan' and 'Wanju' collections. Number of node, stem diameter, and fresh and dry weight per plant were decreased in higher planting density. Despite the lower fresh weight per plant obtained, the fresh yield per $m^2$ was significantly increased in higher planting density. The mean fresh yield was $14.9kg{\cdot}m^{-2}$ in $2.5{\times}2.5cm$, and 'Pohang' collection showed the highest fresh yield ($17.6kg{\cdot}m^{-2}$). The first optimized harvesting time base on plant height was 30-40 days after NFT culture during autumn season. In eating quality, compression force of stem and bitterness of shoot were decreased in higher planting density. However, the heavy labor demanding high density cutting needs to be improved for hydroponic culture of $S.$$samentosum$.
Tomatoes were experimented in perlite bags for various irrigation control methods to elucidate the efficient method for nutrient solution management. The irrigation control methods were for 3 different types such as control by drainage level sensor (PROBE), control by integrated solar radiation (ISR), and control by time clock (Timer). The substrate weight was maintained stably in the proper range in PROBE treatment, regardless of daily solar radiations or growth stages. The bed weights in the treatments of ISR and Timer were changed largely. Growth as well as total yield was the highest in PROBE treatment. There was no difference in soluble solids (Brix %) among the treatments. Consequently, ISR control could be useful only with appropriate timer control and also calibration. Control by drainage level sensor was suggested to be the most satisfactory as irrigation management method.
Effects of irrigation control by time and integrated solar radiation on musknelon quality in perlite culture were investigated. Sugar content of melon flesh was high in the irrigation treatment at the following times 6:00, 8:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 12:30, 13:00, 13:30, 14:00, 14:30, 15:00, 16:00, and 17:00(T-2), compared to the irrigation treatment at every hour from 6:00 to 18:00(T-1) within the irrigation experiment controlled by time. Within the irrigation experiment controlled by integrated solar radiation, sugar content was as high as 15.7(Brix$^{\circ}$) in the 240Wh.m$^{-2}$ , compared to the 180, the 200, and the 220Wh.m$^{-2}$ . Fruit firmness was low in T-2 within the Irrigation experiment by time and in the 220Wh.m$^{-2}$ within the irrigation experiment by integrated solar radiation. Fruit size was smaller in the treatment controlled by integrated solar radiation than by the time treatment. Fruit weight was the heaviest in T-1. The weight of the shoot except for the fruit was lower in treatment of irrigation by integrated solar radiation than by time. In conclusion it is suggested that the appropriate integrated solar radiation pet each irrigation cycle should be 180~20Wh.m$^{-2}$ in the early growing stage, and then gradually increased to 240Wh.m$^{-2}$ from net formation to harvest time.
In tomato perlite bag culture, the available water content was analyzed for several sorts of perlite so that the irrigation safety was investigated and thus the irrigation strategy controlled by time clock was established. The reduction trends of water content in perlite bags were monitored for tomatoes, of which fruits were harvested until the fifth cluster. The amount of daily reduction of water in the bag was on the decrease as the total water in the bag was decreased. In terms of time interval from when the water content based on weight was reduced more than 50g to when it was dropped again, the longest time interval in a day was retarded gradually. It means plant activity was recovered later than the previous day. The available water content in perlite bag of 40 liters was about 30% which was 12 kg in weight, which satisfied daily water demand of 6 tomato plants. The appropriate time irrigated by time clock was recommended for the case that it was irrigated 5 or 10 times a day with the daily integrated solar radiation of 601 or $1,519W/m^2$.

We investigated the residual amounts of endosulfan and procymidone taken by vegetables grown in hydroponics culture and field conditions treated with the pesticides in order to evaluate safe cultivation concentration of the pesticides in the vegetables. Endosulfan and procymidone were selected as test pesticides because they have been reported to frequently detect in agricultural products at different concentrations. In hydroponic culture, by Chinese cabbage, procymidone was absorbed 3.8 times higher than endosulfan. The higher the pesticide concentration get, the worse the plant grew. In soil treated with 10 mg/kg of endosulfan, the pesticide absorbed by Leafy radish, Chinese cabbage and radish was less then their MRLs. In case of carlot, the residue level in soil which did not exceed its MRL was 1 mg/kg. The concentrations of procymidone in soil which did not exceed the MRLs in Leafy radish, Chinese cabbage, radish and carrot were 10, 10, 2 and 1 mg/kg, respectively Usually aged endosulfan and procymidone residues were less absorbed into crops than the fresh ones. Chinese cabbage absorbed more endosulfan and pocymidone than leafy radish, radish doing more than carrot.

The effect of pH on the survival of R. solanacearum and its transmission via roots of tomato in hydroponic culture were studied in laboratory and greenhouse. In laboratory experiment, R. solanacearum could not survive for 24h in nutrient solution with pH of $4{\cdot}0;or\;4{\cdot}5$, while 1, 14, 51 and $62\%$ of inoculum survived at pH $5{\cdot}0,\;5{\cdot}6\;and\;6{\cdot}5$, respectively. When tomato plants were inoculated with R. solanacearum through wounds on the stems, the bacteria moved downward from the inoculation site to the roots and infectious bacteria were released from the roots into the nutrient solution. Of two pH regimes tested in greenhouse nutrient-film technique(NFT) culture, the R. solanacearum population was significantly lower in pH 5.0 than in pH 6.5 in most sampling data. In treatments in which R. solanacearum was introduced by transplanting two root-inoculated plants, significantly move plants developed wilt at pH $6{\cdot}5$(34 out of 48 plants) than at pH 5.0(11 out of 48 plants). In addition, when the bacterium was introduced by transplanting two stem-inoculated plants at pH $6{\cdot}5$, seven out of 24 plants developed wilt.
Stem firmness and flowering response of cut lily as influenced by medium composition (Control; Upland soil, Pt; Peatmoss, Pe; Perilite, Ve; Vermiculite, Rrh; Rotted rice-hull, RPt: Russian Peatmoss) were studied. For 'Casa Blanca', plant height and length of flower stalk increased when bulbs were planted in Pt:Rrh:Ve (1:1:1, v.v$^{-1}$ ), and dried leaves of lower part plants decreased in RPt:Pe:Rrh (1:1:1, v.v$^{-1}$ ). In case of 'Marco Polo', plant height and length of lower stalk increased in Pt:Rrh (1:1, v.v$^{-1}$ ) as compared to other treatment, number of leaves and dried leaves increased when bulbs were planted in RPt:Pe:Rrh (1:1:1, v.v$^{-1}$ ) as compared to the control. Flowering of 'Casa Blanca' increased in RPt:Pe:Rrh (1:1:1, v.v$^{-1}$ ) as compared to the control and that o 'Marco Polo' increased when bulbs planted in Pt:Rrh(1:1, v.v$^{-1}$ ). Flower-bud blasting of both cultivars increased with Pt as compared. Stem firmness of 'Casa Blanca' increased in Pt:Pe:Ve (1:1:1, v.v$^{-1}$ ), and especially stem firmness of upper part plant of 'Marco Polo' increased in Pt:Rrh (1:1, v.v$^{-1}$ ) as compared to the control. Generally, stem firmness of 'Casa Blanca' was not influenced by the culture medium.
