Hydrological models simulate the land phase component of the water cycle and provide a mechanism for evaluating the effects of climatic variation and change on water resources. Evapotranspiration(ET) is a critical process within hydrological models. This study evaluates five different methods for estimating ET in the SLURP(Semi-distrubuted Land Use Runoff Process)model, in the Yongdam basin. The five ET methods were the FAO Penman-Monteith, Motorn CRAE(Complementary Relationship Area Evapotranspiration), the Spittlehouse-Black, the Granger, the Linarce model. We evaluated the five ET models, based on the ability of SLURP model to simulate daily streamflow. and How the five ET methods influence the sensitivity of simulated streamflow to changes in key model parameters and validation SLURP independently for each ET methods.
SWAT-K model is a modified version of the original SWAT, and is known to more accurately estimate the streamflows and pollutant loadings in Korean watersheds. In this study, its hydrological components were compared with those of HSPF in order to analyse the differences in total runoff including evapotranspiration(ET), surface flow, lateral flow and groundwater flow from the Chungju Dam watershed during $2000{\sim}2006$. Averaged annual runoff with SWAT-K overestimated by 1%, and HSPF underestimated it by 3% than observed runoff. Determination coefficients($R^2$) for observed and simulated daily streamflows by both the models were relatively good(0.80 by SWAT-K and 0.82 by HSPF). Potential ET and actual ET by HSPF were lower in winter, but similar or higher than those by SWAT-K. And though there were some differences in lateral and groundwater flows by two models because of the differences in hydrological algorithms, the results were to be reasonable. From the results, it was suggested that we should utilize a proper model considering the characteristic of study area and purposes of the model application because the simulated results from same input data could be different with models used. Also we should develop a novel model appropriate to Korean watersheds by enhancing limitations of the existing models in the future.

Integrated modelling of surface water and groundwater has become important to satisfy the growing demands for sustainable water resources and improved water quality. In this study, the integrated model of the semi-distributed watershed model, SWA T and the fully-distributed groundwater flow model, MODFLOW is applied to Musirn river basin for the purpose of investigating its applicability to reproduce watershed-scale hydrological processes. This objective is accomplished by first demonstrating good agreement between the simulated discharge hydrographs with the measured hydrographs for the period of 2001 -2004 while simultaneously calibrating the calculated groundwater level distribution to observation wells. Next, the integrated model is used to evaluate the effect of different temporal precipitation averages on hydrodynamic processes of streamflow, percolation, recharge and groundwater discharge. Moreover, comprehensive simulations are performed to present the relationships between monthly precipitation and each hydrological component, and to analyze the temporal-spatial variability of recharge. The results show that the components are highly interrelated, and that the heterogeneity of watershed characteristics such as subbasin slope, land use, soil type causes a significant spatial variation of recharge. Overall it is concluded that the model is capable of reproducing the temporally and spatially varied surface and subsurface hydrological processes at the watershed scale.

Precipitation is a crucial component of water cycle and play a key role in hydrological processes. Traditionally, gauge-based precipitation is the main method to achieve high accuracy of rainfall estimation, but its distribution is sparsely in mountainous areas. Recently, satellite-based precipitation products (SPPs) provide grid-based precipitation with spatio-temporal variability, but SPPs contain a lot of uncertainty in estimated precipitation, and the spatial resolution quite coarse. To overcome these limitations, this study aims to generate new grid-based daily precipitation using Automatic weather system (AWS) in Korea and multiple SPPs(i.e. CHIRPSv2, CMORPH, GSMaP, TRMMv7) during the period of 2003-2017. And this study used a machine learning based Random Forest (RF) model for generating new merging precipitation. In addition, several statistical linear merging methods are used to compare with the results of the RF model. In order to investigate the efficiency of RF, observed data from 64 observed Automated Synoptic Observation System (ASOS) were collected to evaluate the accuracy of the products through Kling-Gupta efficiency (KGE), probability of detection (POD), false alarm rate (FAR), and critical success index (CSI). As a result, the new precipitation generated through the random forest model showed higher accuracy than each satellite rainfall product and spatio-temporal variability was better reflected than other statistical merging methods. Therefore, a random forest-based ensemble satellite precipitation product can be efficiently used for hydrological simulations in ungauged basins such as the Mekong River.

The spatial variation of saturation tendency can be calculated from the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) employing the multiple flow direction algorithm on the platform of Geographic Resources Support Analysis System (GRASS). It is expected that a bettter understanding of dynamical runoff processes in hillslope hydrological scale is obtained through tracing various runoff path such as infiltration excess overland flow component, strutation excess overland flow component and subsurface runoff component. A procedure is suggested to consider the effect of a tile system on calculating the topographic index. A small agricultural subwatershed (3.4 km2) is used for this study.
A correlation analysis between raw water turbidity at two wide-area water treatment plants and hydrological data was conducted for efficient water supply, design and management of water treatment plant. Both correlation analysis and principal component analysis were conducted using hydrological time series data such as inflow discharge, outflow discharge, and rainfall at dam basin of intake station of wide-area water treatment plants. And, forecasting of change in turbidity was conducted using regression equation for turbidity prediction. The raw water turbidity of two water treatment plants was strongly related to time series of discharge. The raw water turbidity of Chungju water treatment plant is strongly related to outflow discharge at Chungju dam (0.708). Whereas, the raw water turbidity of Wabu water treatment plant is strongly related to inflow discharge at Paldang dam (0.805). Similar trends between turbidity forecasting result using regression equation and calculation result using estimation equation on Korea water supply facilities standard were obtained. The result of this study can provide basic data for construction and management of water treatment plant.
This study aimed to determine the relationship between rainfall-discharge patterns and maior aquatic environmental factors in a river-type reservoir. Specifically, daily monitoring was conducted in Paltang Reservoir from January 1999 to December 2001. Observation of the daily changes of the environment factors showed that natural meteorological factors and hydrological factors causing the change of water discharge had a major effect on the aquatic environment. Rainfall was the main source of hydrological changes, with its frequency a possible direct variable governing the range of discharge changes. Rainfall was weak in November${\sim}$May and heavy in June${\sim}$October (heavist in summer). The range of water discharge was greatest during summer (July to September) and lowest during winter (January to February). A principal component analysis (PCA) showed that aquatic environmental factors could be classified into three different types in the pattern of annual variation. First, type I included water temperature, turbidity, water color and organic matter (COD), which increased with increasing water discharge. Second, type ll consisted of DO and pH, which decreased with increasing water discharge. Third, type III included conductivity, alkalinity and chloride ion, which showed middle values with increasing water discharge. Monthly variation of aquatic environments explained by the first two dimensions of the PCA suggests that aquatic environments of Paltang Reservoir may have annual cycle typical of river-type reservoirs depending on hydrological factor such as water discharge.

This study was estimated water quality to raw water quality management of the Maeri intake station in the Nakdong River using Multivariate Analysis. The results of Principle Component Analysis was explained up to 76.9% of total water quality by three principle components. The 1st, 2nd was explained 44.7%, 17.9% and third was explained 14.3%. Also, the three factors was derived from Factor Analysis. The 1st factor was estimated as the matabolism and organic matter pattern related to algal growth. The 2nd factor was judged as the pollution of pattern related to the discharge from stream of the Nakdong River and 3rd factor was viewed as the hydrological variation pattern related to particle matter. The results of Cluster Analysis were classified into three groups.
The present study analyzed noise reduction and long/short-term components for discharge, TOC concentration, and TOC load data in order to understand the data characteristics better. For the purpose, wavelet transform which can reduce noise from raw data and has flexible resolution in time and frequency domain was applied and the theory of nonlinear dynamics was also used to determine the last decomposition level for wavelet transform. Wavelet function of 'db10' and the 7th level for the last decomposition of wavelet transform were applied for the all data in the present study. Also the results revealed that the energy ratios of approximation components with 187-hour periodicity decomposed from 7th level of wavelet transform were 94.71% (discharge), 99.00% (TOC concentration), and 93.84% (TOC load), respectively. In addition, the energy ratios of detail components showed the range between 1.00% and 6.17%, which were extremely small comparing to the energy ratios of approximation components, therefore, the first and second detail components might be considered as noise components included in the raw data.

Wetlands are a critical component of the global carbon cycle and are essential in mitigating climate change. Accurately quantifying wetland carbon emissions is crucial for understanding and predicting the impact of wetlands on the global carbon budget. The uncertainty quantifying carbon in wetlands may comes from the ecosystem's hydrological, biochemical, and microbiological variability. The Community Land Model is a sophisticated and flexible land surface model that offers several configuration options such as energy and water fluxes, vegetation dynamics, and biogeochemical cycling, necessitating careful consideration for the alternative configurations before model implementation to develop a practical model framework. We conducted a systematic literature review, analyzing the alternatives, focusing on the carbon stock pools configurations and the parameters with significant sensitivity for carbon quantification in wetlands. In addition, we evaluated the feasibility and availability of in situ observation data necessary for validating the different alternatives. This analysis identified the most suitable option for our study site, the Binbong Wetland, in Korea.
