PEMFC용 분리판 표면코팅 및 부식성 평가 (Surface Coating and Corrosion Characteristics of Bipolar Plates of PEMFC Application)

  • Stainless steel 304 and 316 plates were deposited with the multi-layered coatings of titanium film (0.1 um) and gold film (1-2 um) by an electron beam evaporation method. The XRD patterns of the stainless steel plates modified with the multi-layered coatings showed the crystalline phases of the external gold film and the stainless steel substrate. Surface microstructural morphologies of the stainless steel bipolar plates modified with multi-layered coatings were observed by AFM and FE-SEM images. The external gold films formed on the stainless steel plates showed micro structure of grains of about 100 nm diameter. The grain size of the external surface of the stainless steel plates increased with the gold film thickness. The electrical resistance and water contact angle of the stainless steel bipolar plates covered with multi-layered coatings were examined with the thickness of the external gold film.

Hydrogen sensing of Nano thin film and Nanowire structured cupric oxide deposited on SWNTs substrate: A comparison

  • Cupric oxide (CuO) is a p-type semiconductor with band gap of ~1.7 eV and reported to be suitable for catalysis, lithium-copper oxide electrochemical cells, and gas sensors applications. The nanoparticles, plates and nanowires of CuO were found sensing to NO2, H2S and CO. In this work, we report about the comparison about hydrogen sensing of nano thin film and nanowires structured CuO deposited on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). The thin film and nanowires are synthesized by deposition of Cu on different substrate followed by oxidation process. Nano thin films of CuO are deposited on thermally oxidized silicon substrate, whereas nanowires are synthesized by using a porous thin film of SWNTs as substrate. The hydrogen sensing properties of synthesized materials are investigated. The results showed that nanowires cupric oxide deposited on SWNTs showed higher sensitivity to hydrogen than those of nano thin film CuO did.

  • Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films have been prepared by a widely-used plasma CVD with an rf (13.56MHz) plasma of $CH_4$ gas. The hydrogen incorporated in DLC films plays an important role of determining the film properties, but its exact role has not been clear. In this study, the effect of hydrogen on the film properties of DLC has been examined by adding the hydrogen gas to the $CH_4$ gas during deposition and by exposing the prepared film to the hydrogen plasma. As the content of additive hydrogen gas increases, the density and hardness of the film increase, but the growth rate decreases. The FT-IR spectroscopy results show that the number of C-H bonds decreases with increasing the hydrogen gas. Also, the variation in the position of "G" and "D" peaks due to additive hydrogen, which has been measured by the Raman spectroscopy, indicates of $sp^3$ fraction.

Effects of Hydrogen Plasma Treatment of the Underlying TaSiN Film Surface on the Copper Nucleation in Copper MOCVD

  • MOCVD is one of the major deposition techniques for Cu thin films and Ta-Si-N is one of promising barrier metal candidates for Cu with high thermal stability. Effects of hydrogen plasma pretreatment of the underlying Ta-Si-N film surface on the Cu nucleation in Cu MOCVD were investigated using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Auger electron emission spectrometry analyses. Cu nucleation in MOCVD is enhanced as the rf-power and the plasma exposure time are increased in the hydrogen plasma pretreatment. The optimal plasma treatment process condition is the rf-power of 40 Wand the plasma exposure time of 2 min. The hydrogen gas flow rate in the hydrogen plasma pretreatment process does not affect Cu nucleation much. The mechanism through which Cu nucleation is enhanced by the hydrogen plasma pretreatment of the Ta-Si-N film surface is that the nitrogen and oxygen atoms at the Ta-Si-N film surface are effectively removed by the plasma treatment. Consequently the chemical composition was changed from Ta-Si-N(O) into Ta-Si at the Ta-Si-N film surface, which is favorable for Cu nucleation.

수소흡수시 Pd 박막 시료의 두께 변화에 따른 전기저항의 변화 (Change of Electrical Resistivity of PdH film as a Function of Film Thickness)

  • 진공 증착 방법으로 제작한 Pd박막(두께 $180{\sim}670{\AA}$)에 상온에서 수소기체를 흡수-방출시킬 때의 전기저항값의 변화를 측정하였다. 저항값 변화의 최대값은 시료의 두께에 따라서 달라졌다. $({\Delta}R_{\infty}/R_0)_{{\beta}min}$ 값은 $\670{\AA}$ 시료는 0.61이었으며, $\180{\AA}$ 시료는 0.34 이었다. 같은 두께의 시료일 경우 시료의 제작 조건에 따라 저항값의 변화는 다른 경향을 보였다.

고압 수증기하 산화에서 핵연료 피복관내 수소효과 연구 (The Effect of Hydrogen in the Nuclear Fuel Cladding on the Oxidation under High Temperature and High Pressure Steam)

  • The characteristics of oxidation for the Zry-4 was measured in the $800^{\circ}C$ and high steam pressure (50 bar, 75 bar, 100 bar) conditions, using an apparatus for high pressure steam oxidation. The effect of accelerated oxidation by high-pressure steam was increased more than 60% in hydrogen-charged cladding than normal cladding. This difference between hydrogen charged claddings and normal claddings tends to be larger as the higher pressure. The accelerated oxidation effect of hydrogen charging cladding is regarded as the hydrogen on the metal layer affects the formation of the protective oxide layer. The creation of the sound monoclinic phase in Zry-4 oxidation influences reinforcement of corrosion-resistance of the oxide layer. The oxidation is estimated to be accelerated due to the creation of equiaxial type oxide film with lower corrosion resistance than that of columnar type oxide film. When tetragonal oxide film transformed into the monoclinic oxide film, surface energy of the new monoclinic phase reduced by hydrogen in the metal layer.

고분자전해질 연료전지용 바이폴라 플레이트의 다층 코팅의 증착 (Multi-layered Coating Deposited on PEMFC (Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) Bipolar Plates)

  • The surface region of commercial stainless steel 304 and 316 plates has been modified through deposition of the multi-layered coatings composed of titanium film ($0.1{\mu}m$) and gold film ($1-2{\mu}m$) by an electron beam evaporation method. XRD patterns of the stainless steel plates deposited with conductive metal films showed the peaks of the external gold film and the stainless steel substrate. Surface microstructural morphologies of the stainless steel bipolar plates modified with multi-layered coatings were observed by AFM and FE-SEM images. The stainless steel plates modified with $0.1{\mu}m$ titanium film and $1{\mu}m$ gold film showed microstructure of grains of under 100 nm diameter. The external surface of the stainless steel plates deposited with $0.1{\mu}m$ titanium film and $2{\mu}m$ gold film represented somewhat grain growth of Au grains in FE-SEM image. The electrical resistance and water contact angle of the stainless steel bipolar plates modified with multi-layered coatings were examined with the thickness of the gold film.

Deposition of Diamond Film by Hydrogen-oxyacetylen Combustion Flame

  • Diamond film was deposited on Mo substrate at atmospheric pressure using combustion flame apparatus with the addition of H2. At a temperature above 100$0^{\circ}C$, parts of the film were converted into graphites and these were etched by hydrogen atoms. With increasing $C_2H_2/O_2$ ratio, the nucleation density of the film increased. But the greater part of the film was formed with cauliflower-shaped amorphous carbon. These amorphous carbn were crystallized etching amorphous carbon.

  • We studied the electrochromic properties of hydrated amorphous ruthenium oxide ($RuO_2{\cdot}xH_2O$) thin films using in-situ Raman spectroscopy during electrochemical charging/discharging cycles. We have found that the principal effect of hydrogen insertion into $RuO_2{\cdot}xH_2O$ is reduction of $Ru^{4+}\;to\;Ru^{3+}$, and not formation of new bonds involving hydrogen. We compared the changes in the Raman spectrum of a gasochromic $Pd/RuO_2{\cdot}xH_2O$ film as it is exposed to hydrogen gas with that of electrochemical hydrogen insertion. We tested the changes in the optical transmission of the $Pd/RuO_2{\cdot}xH_2O$ film when exposed to hydrogen gas.

탄소 음이온빔으로 증착되는 DLC 박막 제조에 미치는 수소 이온의 영향 (Hydrogen ion effect on the formation of DLC thin film by negative carbon ion beam)

  • 상온에서 $Cs^+$ ion sputtering에 의해 발생된 탄소 음이온 빔과 Kaufmann type ion source를 이용하여 발생된 수소 양이온 빔을 Si기판 위에 동시에 증착함으로써 얻어지는 DLC 박막의 특성을 분석하여 DLC 박막의 증착에 미치는 수소 이온의 영향을 관찰하였다. 수소 가스의 flow rate을 0 sccm부터 12 sccm까지 변화 시킴에 따라 박막 내에 포함되는 수소의 양이 증가하였으며, 수소의 증가에 따라 박막 내에 $sp^2$구조가 증가하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 수소에 의한 $sp^2$결합이 증가되는 현상은 증착시 박막 내에 주입되는 수소의 양이 CVD에 비해 매우 적은 양이지만, 상대적으로 높은 에너지를 지니고 기판에 충돌하기 때문에 물리적 에너지 전달 효과가 DLC 박막의 형성에 크게 작용하였음을 알 수 있었다.
