  • Most of the monopropellant thrusters use catalyst for decomposing hydrazine. The thruster lifetime is determined mainly by catalyst lifetime, which can be investigated by firing tests. For the development of hydrazine decomposition catalyst, Hot-fire test to verify long-life performance of catalyst is required. This study describes the development of test equipment for long duration hot-firing and test/evaluation plan.

  • Various sizes of hydrazine monopropellant thruster have been used on satellite and space launcher vehicle. The test and handling procedure of hydrazine monopropellant thruster are usually difficult because of the toxicity of hydrazine and its decomposition product gases. Therefore, the numerical analysis can help understand the effects of various design parameters and can reduce the time as well as expenses. In this study, the numerical analysis is performed by modelling the catalyst bed as one dimensional porous medium. Thereby, resulting physical phenomena are examined by considering the variation of catalyst bed characteristics incurred by catalyst granule failure.

  • Anaerobic ammonium oxidation(ANAMMOX) is a novel process fur treatment of piggery waste with strong nitrogen. In this study, we investigated acid fermentation of organic matter, denitrificatiot reduction of sulfur compounds and P crystalization by hydroxyapatite during the treatment of wastewater with high strength of ammonium and organic matters by ANAMMOX process. Also, functions of hydroxylamine and hydrazine as intermedeates of ANAMMOX process were tested. This study reveals that various complex-reactions with anaerobic ammonium oxidation of piggery waste are happened and hydroxylamine and hydrazine play an important role in ANAMMOX reaction.

  • Concurrent electrocatalysis and sensing of hydrazine, sulfite ions, and nitrite ions in a mixture were studied using electrodes modified by electrodeposited Au nanostructures (NSs). The ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin-mixed silicate sol-gel composite was drop-casted on the electrode surface and nucleation guided by ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin occurred, followed by the electrodeposition of Au NSs. The additive, ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin, played an evident role as a structure-directing agent; thus, small raspberry-like Au NSs were obtained. The modified electrodes were characterized by surface characterization techniques and electrochemical methods. The Au NSs-modified electrodes effciently electrocatalyzed the oxidation of toxic molecules such as hydrazine and sulfite and nitrite ions even in the absence of any other electron transfer mediator or enzyme immobilization. Well-resolved oxidation peaks along with decreased overpotentials were noticed during the electrooxidation process. The fabricated Au nanostructured electrode clearly distinguished the electrooxidation peaks of each of the three analytes from their mixture.

  • A ground hot-firing test(HFT) was accomplished to draw a correlation between the pressure oscillation intensity of combustion chamber and thrust response characteristics in a 70 N-class hydrazine thruster which has been developed recently. Monopropellant grade hydrazine was adopted as a propellant for the HFT, and combustion-chamber characteristic length, propellant injection pressure were applied as test parameters. It was confirmed that the decrease of thrust-chamber diameter and injection pressure augmented the pressure oscillation of stagnation chamber in the test condition specified, and the oscillation hampered the pulse response performance of test models.

  • Nickel powders synthesized by the reduction of hydrazine of nickel salts fiom diethanolamine(DEA) solution, and investigated the morphological characteristics of nickel powders with the addition of hydrazine, reaction temperature, the composition of mixed solvents. The addition of hydrazine in DEA solution largely affected on size control of nickel powders. Under $N_2H_4/Ni^{2+}$ molar ratio= 1.5 and 2.0 conditions, spherical nickel powders in the submicron range obtained, owing to higher the reduction rate. An increase of temperature increased the size of nickel particles. At $220^{\circ}C$ for 40 min, the nickel powders composed of polyhedral particles with high crystalline in the submicron range. The mixed volume ratio of TEA to DEA affected on the increase of particle size and the inhibition of agglomerate between particles.

  • Second-order rate constants ($k_N$) have been measured spectrophotometrically for the reaction of 4-chloro-2-nitrophenyl X-substituted-benzoates (6a-6h) with a series of primary amines including hydrazine in 80 mol % $H_2O$/20 mol % DMSO at $25.0^{\circ}C$. The Br${\o}$nsted-type plot for the reaction of 4-chloro-2-nitrophenyl benzoate (6d) is linear with ${\beta}_{nuc}$ = 0.74 when hydrazine is excluded from the correlation. Such a linear Br${\o}$nsted-type plot is typical for reactions reported previously to proceed through a stepwise mechanism in which expulsion of the leaving group occurs in the rate-determining step (RDS). The Hammett plots for the reactions of 6a-6h with hydrazine and glycylglycine are nonlinear. In contrast, the Yukawa-Tsuno plots exhibit excellent linear correlations with ${\rho}_X$ = 1.29-1.45 and r = 0.53-0.56, indicating that the nonlinear Hammett plots are not due to a change in RDS but are caused by resonance stabilization of the substrates possessing an electron-donating group (EDG). Hydrazine is ca. 47-93 times more reactive than similarly basic glycylglycine toward 6a-6h (e.g., the ${\alpha}$-effect). The ${\alpha}$-effect increases as the substituent X in the benzoyl moiety becomes a stronger electron-withdrawing group (EWG), indicating that destabilization of the ground state (GS) of hydrazine through the repulsion between the nonbonding electron pairs on the two N atoms is not solely responsible for the substituent-dependent ${\alpha}$-effect. Stabilization of transition state (TS) through five-membered cyclic TSs, which would increase the electrophilicity of the reaction center or the nucleofugality of the leaving group, contributes to the ${\alpha}$-effect observed in this study.

  • Silver nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical reduction method from aqueous silver nitrate solution ana hydrazine as a reduction agent. The morphology, particle size and shape were dependent on the mixing method, reaction temperature and time, molar ratio of hydrazine and silver nitrate, the kind of surfactant, and the addition of surfactant. The stability of the colloidal silver was achieved by the adsorption of surfactant molecules onto the particle. Silver nanoparticles have a characteristic absorption maximum at 430 nm under UV irradiation. It was found that the colloid was nanometer m size and formed very stable dispersion of silver. The Ag nanoparticles obtained showed the spherical shape with the size range of 10-30 nm.

  • A new organic reagent, 1-isonicotynyl-2-furfurylidene hydrazine synthesized from isonicotinic acid hydrazid and furfural, gives yellow liquid with cadmium (II). Cadmium complex of the reagent is soluble in water with yellow coloration. The complex has a maximum absorption at 363 m${\mu}$ and molar ratio of cadmium to reagent was estimated as 1:1 by continuous variation method and slope method. Molecular extinction coefficient and apparent formation constant of this complex was spectrophotometrically determined.
