  • A small-break loss of coolant accident (SB-LOCA) test with a break size equivalent to a 3-inch cold leg break of the APR1400 was carried out as the first transient integral effect test using the ATLAS (Advanced Thermal-hydraulic Test Loop for Accident Simulation). This was the first integral effect test to investigate the integral performance of the test facility and to verify its simulation capability for one of the design-basis accidents. Reasonably good thermal hydraulic data was obtained so that an integral performance of the fluid sub-systems was identified and control performance of the ATLAS was confirmed under real thermal hydraulic conditions. Based on the measured data, a post-test calculation was carried out using the best-estimate thermal hydraulic safety analysis code, MARS 3.1, and the similarity between the expected and actual data was investigated. On the whole, the post-test calculation reasonably predicts the major thermal hydraulic parameters measured during the SB-LOCA test. The obtained data will be used to enhance the simulation capability of the ATLAS and to improve an input model of the ATLAS for simulation of other target scenarios.

  • This study is the analysis of hydraulic characteristic for stream diversion reach by numerical model test. Through it we can provide the basis data in flood, and in grasping stream flow characteristics. Analysis of hydraulic characteristics in Seoknam stream were implemented by using computer model HEC-RAS(one-dimensional model) and RMA2(two-dimensional finite element model). As a result we became to known that RMA2 to simulate left, main channel, right in stream is more effective method in analysing flow in channel bends, steep slope, complex bed form effect stream flow characteristics, than HEC-RAS.

  • The experiments in coastal engineering are very complex and a lot of components should be concerned. The experience has an important role in the successful execution. Hydraulic model experiments have been improved with the development of the wave generator and the advanced measuring apparatus. The hydraulic experiments have the advantage, that is, the stability of coastal structures and the hydraulic characteristics could be observed more intuitively rather than the numerical modelings. However, different experimental results can be drawn depending on the model scale, facilities, apparatus, and experimenters. In this study, two-dimensional hydraulic experiments were performed to suggest the guide of the test wave(random wave) generation, which is the most basic and important factor for the model test. The techniques for generating the random waves with frequency energy spectrum and the range for the incident wave height [(HS)M/(HS)T = 1~1.05] were suggested. The proposed guide for the test wave generation will contribute to enhancing the reliability of the experimental results in coastal engineering.

  • In order to study the triaxial mechanical behavior of steel fiber reinforced high performance concrete (SFRHPC), the standard triaxial compression tests with four different confining pressures are performed on the cylindrical specimens. Three different steel fiber volumes (0, 1% and 2%) are added in the specimens with diameter of 50 mm and height of 100 mm. Test results show that the triaxial compressive strength and peak strain increase with the increasing of fiber content at the same confining pressure. At the same steel fiber content, the triaxial compressive strength and peak strain increases with the confining pressure. The compressive strength growth rate declines as the confining pressure and steel fiber content increases. Longitudinal cracks are dominant in specimens with or without steel fiber under uniaxial compression loading. While with the confining pressure increases, diagonal crack due to shear is obvious. The Mohr-Coulomb criterion is illustrated can be used to describe the failure behavior, and the cohesive force increases as steel fiber content increases. Finally, the numerical model is built by using the PFC3D software. In the numerical model a index is introduced to reflect the effect of steel fiber content on the triaxial compressive behavior. The simulating stress-strain curve and failure mode of SFRHPC are agree well with the experimental results.

  • When a tractor travels slope lands, problems of operator safety and the reduction of job efficiency usually occur. Therefore, maintaining the tractor body being horizontal is critical to improve the security of traveling and the job performance. An experiment was made in a soil bin using the experimental model system built and equipped with a leveling control system. Adaptability of the control system was tested and investigated by analyzing system response in time and frequency domains. Control response time of hydraulic cylinder with 10lpm flow rate on a step input of 10$^{\circ}$slope was about 0.42sec. And it showed a linearly increasing trend without any hunching state. A steady state error of 0.6$^{\circ}$occurred but it was negligible. The hydraulic control system showed a little phase differences within the range of 0.4Hz input frequency. The experimental model showed that implementation of the proposed tractor control system to on slope lands tractor was feasible.

  • The hydraulic energy regnerative brake systems is introduced in this work. An accumulator stores kinetic energy during braking action, and the stored energy is used in a following acceleration action. The dynamic model of the brake system is derived for computer simulation study, and the Runge-Kutta numerical integration method is applied to the simulation work. Since the model contains several unknown parameters, these were determined by data which had been proceeded. Through a series of computer simulation , dynamic performance of the energy regenerative brake system is compared with that of a conventional system in which a conventional brake circuit is used. A series of test is carried out in the laboratory. The dynamic characteristics of the hydraulic motor system, such as the surge pressure and response time, are investigated in both brake action and acceleration action.

  • In the development of very high head pumped storage projects, one of the critical problems is the strength of pumpturbine runners. Data obtained by stress measurements of high head pump-turbine runners indicated that dynamic stress due to the vibration of runner might be detrimental, possibly to cause fatigue failure, if the runner were designed without proper consideration on its dynamic behaviour. Numerous field stress measurements of runners and model tests conducted with hydrodynamic similarity revealed that the hydraulic excitation force developed by the interference of rotating runner blades with guide vane wakes sometimes would induce such heavy vibration of runner. Theoretical and experimental investigations on both the hydraulic excitation force and the natural frequencies of runner have been conducted to explore this forced vibration problem.

  • A new method of determining the discharge coefficients and velocity which are very important factor to calculate the weight of riprap materials in the seadike closure gap can be derived through the hydraulic model test. On the basis of the results of this study, general hydraulic aspects between gradual horizontal and vertical closure method are compared, and also discharge and velocity computation procedures are presented.
