Since there are $OH^-,\;[SiO_4]^{4-}$ ion of high concentration at early hydration in the system added with activator (NaOH+$Na_2OSiO_2$) in the blast furnace slag, different from cement hydration, hydration progresses fast without induction period and forms reaction rim around the blast furnace slag grain. $0.6{\mu}m$ reaction rim was formed around the blast furnace slag grain from the 1 day of reaction period, and the thickness of reaction rim increases over the reaction time, growing to $1{\mu}m$ on the 28 days. Unreacted blast furnace slag grain deformed from angular shape to the spherical shape. Mole ratio of Ca/Si tends to decrease from inside of blast furnace slag grain to reaction rim. Difference of Ca/Si mole ratio between reaction rim and inside the blast furnace slag grain decreased and generated hydrate was a poor crystalline CSH(I) with Ca/Si mole ratio less than 1.5.
The reaction of hydration proceeded at the same time the vapor was introduced into the reactor that was filled with calcined dolomite. It has shown that the temperature has begun to fall from the bottom of reactor after increase of temperature by the heat of hydration reaction. The reaction initiated at the pipe wall and the heat was transfer to the center of block between the fins. The results show that the use of copper fin in the reactor reducted the hydration reaction time by half when compared to the case without using the fins.
The kinetics and mechanism on the hydration of granulated blastfurnace slag-sodium silicate systems were studied by ignition loss, unreacted slag determination, XRD, DTA and SEM(EDS). From this experiment the following results were obtained. The amount of slag reaction was increased with the content of sodium silicate and also C-S-H, C4AH13, and C2ASH8 were formed to be the main products up to 28 days of hydration. Sodium silicate was not only an activator for slag hydration but also a binder in the hydration. The amount of slag reaction activated by sodium silicate was a nearly same for Ca(OH)2 activated slag, but it was smaller one than that activated by NaOH. However there was no difference in hydration products.
In this study, gel powder which had relatively high hydration reactivity in CaO and P2O5 rich composition of CaO-P2O5-SiO2-H2O system was prepared by sol-gel process and its hydrated specimen was manufactured. The it was investigated to appropriate calcination temperature in sol-gel process which hydrated specimen of gel powder have proven to strength and the effect of factors influenced strength in hydration process. The major product of before and after hydration reaction was hydroxyapatite, and crystalline phase of C-S-H was already formed during gelation process. After hydration reaction of pressed specimen, crystalline phase of C-S-P-H was formed. It was hydrated product of silicocarnotite (5CaO.P2O5.SiO2). Gel phases of C-S-H and C-S-P-H occured as a result of partial substitution of amorphous silica by P2O5 was formed. The strength of hydrated hardened body is developed by strong bonding and bridging between the gel phases of C-S-H or C-S-P-H and the crystalline products such as hydroxyapatite, Ca(OH)2 C-S-H and C-S-P-H. In addition, the ultrafine gel powder have an great effect on increase of hydration reaction.

This study investigates the effect of nano-silica and nano-calcite on the hydration properties and mechanical performance of limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) paste. The pastes were synthesized by replacing limestone with nano-silica and nano-calcite in order to enhance the mechanical properties in both early and late stages of hydration. The nano-calcite enhanced the strength of LC3 pastes at 1 day of hydration, however, the strength decreased compared to the ordinary LC3 pastes afterwards due to excessive amount of carboaluminate produced in the pastes. On the other hand, nano-silica improved the mechanical properties of LC3 pastes at all ages of hydration. This is mainly due to the nucleation effect and pozzolanic reaction of nano-silica, affecting the early age and late ages of hydration, respectively. The nucleation effect of both nanomaterials were confirmed by the analysis of hydration heat, supporting the enhanced early age strength of nanomaterial incorporated LC3 pastes. Furthermore, the dense matrix was shown in the pore size distribution, and the increased C-S-H due to the pozzolanic reaction evidence the improved compressive and splitting tensile strength of nano-silica incorporated LC3 pastes.
Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) was developed in early 1990s and has been successfully used for root perforation repair, root end filling, and one-visit apexification. MTA is composed mainly of tricalcium silicate and dicalcium silicate. When MTA is hydrated, calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) and calcium hydroxide is formed. Formed calcium hydroxide interacts with the phosphate ion in body fluid and form amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) which finally transforms into calcium deficient hydroxyapatite (CDHA). These mineral precipitate were reported to form the MTA-dentin interfacial layer which enhances the sealing ability of MTA. Clinically, the use of zinc oxide euginol (ZOE) based materials may retard the setting of MTA. Also, the use of acids or contact with excessive blood should be avoided before complete set of MTA, because these conditions could adversely affect the hydration reaction of MTA. Further studies on the chemical nature of MTA hydration reaction are needed.

The charateristic of hydration reaction was studied in CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 system glass. As a result, the rate of heat liberation curves of synthestized glass becomes fixed after having increased by degrees. And it is decreasing after having increased suddenly. It was found that the total heat liberation with hydration for synthesized glass has a close relationship with the formation amount of ettringite.

Mass concrete of reaction structure was investigated to minimize cracks generated by the heat of hydration. Suggestions are noted in this paper through the experiences of planning, technical study, computational analysis and field instrumentation.
This study investigated the fluidity, heat of hydration, setting time, strength development, and characteristics of hydration and pozzolanic reactions of high-strength high-volume ground granulated blast-furnace slag(GGBFS) blended cement pasts with the water-to-binder ratio of 20% by experiments, and analyzed the effects of the replacement ratio and fineness of GGBFS on the hydration and pozzolanic reaction. The results show that, in the high-strength mixtures with low water-to-binder ratio, the initial hydration is accelerated due to the "dilution effect" which means that the free water to react with cement increases by the replacement of cement by GGBFS, and thus, strengths at from 3 to 28 days were higher than those of plain mixtures with ordinary Portland cement only. Whereas it was found that the long term strength development is limited because the hydration reaction rates rapidly decreases with ages and the degree of pozzolanic reaction is lowered due to insufficient supply of calcium hydroxide according to large replacement of cement by GGBFS. Also, the GGBFS with higher fineness absorbs more free water, and thus it decreases the fluidity, the degree of hydration, and strength. These results are different with those of normal strength concrete, and therefore, should be verified for concrete mixtures. Also, to develop the high-strength concrete with high-volume of GGBFS, the future research to enhance the long-term strength development is needed.

This study was performed to find out how much water the cement hydration reaction need. It is real situation that it is difficult to find out the amount of chemical combined water with stoichiometric chemical reaction form. Because several variation occurred during hydration reaction it's not easy to divide water which used at cement paste mixture. In this study high temperature(105$^{\circ}C$) dry method was used to divide evaporable water and non-evaporable water. The last is combined water chemically and some free water absorbed to products of hydration physically. The test was processed with variation of water cement ratio from 10% to 45% with 5% intervals. The weight of cement paste specimens were measured after dry for 72hours at each checking time(0.5, 1, 3, 5, 10, 24, 48, 72, 168hour). In this study some conclusions such as follows were derived. Firstly, Pure combined water contents required at cement hydration result in 23.3percent of the weight of cement. Secondly, The sufficient mixing water needed to fully hydrated cement result in about 40∼45percent of weight of cement. That is, gel pores water could be about 16.7∼21.7percent of weight of cement.
