Effect of post-treatment routes on the performance of PVDF-TEOS hollow fiber membranes

  • Membrane separation is widely used for several applications such as water treatment, membrane reactors and climate change. Cross-linked organic-inorganic hybrid polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) / Tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) was adopted for the preparation of optimized hollow membrane (HFM) for membrane distillation or other low pressure separators for mechanical properties and permeability under varying pretreatment schemes. HFMs were prepared on semi-pilot membrane fabrication system. Novel adopted post-treatment schemes involved soaking in glycerol, magnesium sulphate (MgSO4), sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), and isopropanol for different durations. All fibers were characterized for morphology using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), surface roughness using atomic force microscope (AFM), elemental composition by examining Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), water contact angle (CA°) and porosity. The performance of the fibers was evaluated for pure water permeation flux (PWF). Post-treatment with MgSO4 gave the highest both tensile modulus and flux. Assessment of properties and performance revealed comparable results with other organic-inorganic separators, HF or flat. In spite of few reported data on post treatment using MgSO4 in presence of TEOS, this proves the potential of low cost treatment without negative impact on other membrane properties. The flux is also comparable with hypochlorite which manifests substantial precaution requirements in actual industrial use.The relatively high values of flux/bar for sample treated with TEOS, post treated with MgSO4 and hypochlorite are 88 and 82 LMH/bar respectively.

  • A Hybrid Fault Current Limiter(FCL) which has more advantages in fast response and thermal characteristics than a simple resistive FCL had been proposed by our group. The Hybrid FCL consists of a resistive FCL for the magnitude of the first peak of fault current, and a fast switch for detecting fault current and generating the repulsive force within a cycle in fault situation. In ideal case, the impedance of the fast switch wound with two other kinds of HTS tape is negligibly zero in normal operation. But, during the fault situation, each HTS tape has different quench characteristics because of asymmetric current distribution. And this phenomenon causes effective flux and this flux opens the switch through the repulsive force applied to a metal plate of the fast switch. The magnitude of the repulsive force affects the switching characteristics of the fast switch. It should be large enough to raise the metal plate up. Otherwise the arc re-out break which are caused by not enough repulsive force to raise the metal plate up can cause unintended operation of the fast switch. In this paper, the numerical calculation of the repulsive force applied to the metal plate of the fast switch in various combinations of HTS tapes was performed by using the short-circuit test and finite element method.

추력 650 kgf 급 하이브리드 로켓 모터의 연소시험 (Firing Test for Hybrid Rocket Motor with 650 kgf Thrust Level)

  • 본 연구에서는 추력 650 kgf 급의 PE/N2O 하이브리드 로켓 모터의 지상 연소시험을 수행하였다. 초기 실험에서 산화제 유량이 작게 유입됨으로 인해 연소실 압력 및 추력이 설계치 만큼 확보되지 못함을 확인 하였다. 이를 보완하기 위해 노즐목 감소 및 산화제 유량을 증대하여 실험을 수행하였고, 실험에서 발생하는 연소현상을 분석하였다. 또한 sub-scale과 lab-scale의 실험결과를 통해 scale에 따른 연소특성 변화를 비교 분석 하였고, 동일 산화제 유속에서 sub-scale의 후퇴율이 lab-scale의 후퇴율보다 차이는 작지만 낮게 나타남을 확인했다. 본 연구의 결과를 통해 실제 하이브리드 사운딩 로켓 개발을 위해 고려되어야 할 사항을 파악할 수 있었다.

분말활성탄(PAC)+막여과(MF) 조합공정에서 PAC의 영향 평가 (Assesment of Powdered Activated Carbon Effect on PAC+MF Hybrid Membrane Process)

  • This study aims at an assessment of the effectiveness of taste & odor removal and transmembrane pressure changes in a pilot membrane plant(500m3/day) by adding PAC to MF process, and at providing a basis for applying it to the advanced water treatment process. The transmembrane pressure showed, in low turbidity of raw water, a tendency to decrease when PAC was injected at the Flux of 1, $1.5m^3/m^2{\cdot}d$, while it increased in high Flux($1.5m^3/m^2{\cdot}d$) in high turbidity of raw water. in addtion, it is shown that the fouling could be reduced more when PAC is injected together with appropriate amount of coagulant, than when PAC is solely injected. Taste & Odor-causing 2-MIB may not be detected in membrane filtered water, if the amount of PAC injection is increased in accordance with the increasing concentration of 2-MIB. Hence, PAC injection, as a pre-treatment process in MF membrane filtering, is supposed to be a suitable process for reducing fouling as well as for improvement effectiveness of taste & odor treatment.

정수처리 응집·한외여과 시스템의 연속운전을 통한 운전조건 결정 및 막오염 특성에 관한 연구 (Determination of operating factor and characteristics of membrane fouling on hybrid coagulation pretreatment-UF system in drinking water treatment)

  • This study is about efficiency of pretreatment process and operating factor to membrane process at continuous coagulation/ultrafiltration process in water treatment. The capacity of pilot plant was $0.06{\beta}(C)/d$. The raw water used was from Nakdong stream which was characteristized by high organic matter and high turbidity. The result of the test was that coagulation is good process as to high removal rate to organic matter and turbidity but It caused problem to membrane pore blocking. This paper is to determine the membrane fouling potential under different membrane flux, backwash pressure and linear velocity. Backwash pressure and flux is important parameter on operation of membrane system. Those are directly affected on membrane system. When backwash pressure increased from 150 kPa to 200 kPa, the result showed that fouling (pressure increase rate) changed from 3.69 kPa/h to 0.93 kPa/h and the recovery rate changed from 90.7 % to 82.0 %. Linear velocity had slightly effect on fouling. Linear velocity increased from 0.2 m/s to 0.5 m/s, the corresponding pressure rate changed from 0.93 kPa/d to 0.77 kPa/d.

  • Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) which has high power density is usually applied to traction motor for hybrid electric vehicle. In order to analyze characteristics of IPMSM, d- and q-axis equivalent circuit analysis is generally used. However, the line current of IPMSM calculated by d- and q-axis equivalent circuit analysis differ from measured value. This error is mainly appeared under the flux weakening control. In order to reduce the error between calculated and measured line current, no-load linkage flux which is calculated with considering saturation of magnetic core and armature reaction is applied to characteristic analysis. The result of line current calculated by the method dealt with in this paper is verified by comparison with experimental results.

  • 최근 자동제어 시스템의 다양한 분야에서 선형운동용 디지털 액튜에이터인 하이브리드형 선형 스텝핑 전동기(HLSM)의 필요성이 증대되고 있다. HLSM은 기계적인 운동변환기구가 필요하지 않는 직접 구동방식이기 때문에 효율과 경제적인 측면에서 회전형 스텝핑 전동기에 비해 매우 유리한 장점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 현재 가장 많이 연구되고 있는 자속종방향(LFM)형 HLSM의 개발을 위하여 2차원 유한요소법(FEM)으로 최적의 치 형상을 설계하고 추력과 수직력을 계산하였다. 그리고 직접 LFM형 HLSM의 시작기를 제작하고, LFM형 HLSM의 추력 특성을 실험하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 전기자동차용 견인전동기로서의 다극 매입형 영구자석 동기전동기의 회전자 돌극 설계에 의한 토크리플 개선 방안을 연구하였다. 다극 매입형 영구자석 동기전동기의 경우 영구자석에서 발생되는 자속이 고정자에 쇄교되지 않고 회전자 브릿지를 통해 누설되는 자속이 크다. 이러한 누설자속을 줄여 출력밀도를 향상시키고 토크리플을 저감하기 위해 영구자석 사이의 회전자 표면에 슬릿을 적용하였다. 슬릿에 적용되는 두 설계 파라미터를 제안하고 반응표면법을 이용하여 토크리플 감소와 출력 향상 최대화 설계를 수행하였다. 자속의 포화를 고려하기 위해 본 논문에서는 2차원 유한요소법을 이용하여 특성해석을 수행하고 이를 분석하였다.

A Study on Driving Simulation and Efficiency Maps with Nonlinear IPMSM Datasets

  • Hybrid electric vehicles have attracted much attention of late, emphasizing the necessity of developing traction motors with a high input current and a wide speed range. Among such traction motors, various researches have been conducted on interior permanent-magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) with high power density and mechanical solidity. Due to the complexity of its parameters, however, with nonlinear motor characteristics and current vector control, it is actually difficult to accurately estimate the base speed within an actual operating speed range or a voltage limit. Moreover, it is impossible to construct an efficiency map as the efficiency differs according to the control mode. In this study, a simulation method for operation performance considering the nonlinearity of IPMSM was proposed. For this, datasets of various nonlinear parameters were made via the finite-element method and interpolation. Maximum torque-per-ampere and flux-weakening control were accurately simulated using the datasets, and an IPMSM efficiency map was accurately constructed based on the simulation. Lastly, the validity of the simulation was verified through tests.

Research on the Inter-harmonics Equivalent Impedance of Series Hybrid Active Power Filter

  • In the series hybrid active power filter (SHAPF) with magnetic flux compensation (MFC), the system current oscillate in the experimental results when adding the same phase harmonic current command in current control block. This condition endangers the security of the SHAPF. Taking the digit period average arithmetic as example, this paper explains the inter-harmonics current oscillation in the experiment. The conclusion is that the SHAPF is unstable to the inter-harmonics current in theory. Limited by the capacity of the inverter, the system current and the inverter output current do not increase to infinite. At last, some methods are proposed to solve this problem. From the practical viewpoint, the voltage feed-forward control is easy to achieve. It can suppress the current oscillation problems, and also improve the filtering effect. The feasibility of the methods is validated by both the emulation and experiment results.
