A simple method for the fabrication of 3D micro-nano hybrid patterns was presented. In conventional fabrication methods of the micro-nano hybrid patterns, micro-patterns were firstly fabricated and then nano-patterns were formatted on the micro-patterns. Moreover, these micro-nano hybrid patterns could be fabricated on the flat substrate. In this paper, we suggested the fabrication method of 3D micro-nano hybrid patterns using micro-indentation on the anodized aluminum substrate. Since diameter of the hemispherical nano-pattern can be controlled by electrolyte and applied voltage in the anodizing process, we can easily fabricated nano-patterns of diameter of loom to 300nm. Nano-patterns were firstly formatted on the aluminum substrate, and then micro-patterns were fabricated by deforming the nano-patterned aluminum substrate. Hemispherical nano-patterns of diameter of 150nm were fabricated by anodizing process, and then micro-pyramid patterns of the side-length of $50{\mu}m$ were formatted on the nano-patterns using micro-indentation. Finally we successfully replicated 3D micro-nano hybrid patterns by hot-embossing process. 3D micro-nano hybrid patterns can be applied to nano-photonic device and nano-biochip application.
This article describes a simple and cost effective fabrication procedure by using hand lay-up technique that is employed for the manufacturing of thin-walled axi-symmetric composite shell structures with carbon, glass and hybrid woven fabric composite materials. The hand lay-up technique is very commonly used in aerospace and marine industries for making the complicated shell structures. A generic fabrication procedure is presented in this paper aimed at manufacture of plain Carbon Fabric Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) and Glass Fabric Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) shells using hand lay-up process. This paper delivers a technical breakthrough in fabrication of composite shell structures without any joints and wrinkling. The manufacture of stiffened CFRP shells, laminated CFRP shells and hybrid (carbon/glass/epoxy) composite shells which are valued by the aerospace industry for their high strength-to-weight ratio under axial loading have also been addressed in this paper. A fabrication process document which describes the major processing steps of the composite shell manufacturing process has been presented in this paper. A study of microstructure of the glass fabric/epoxy composite, carbon fabric/epoxy composite and hybrid carbon/glass/fabric epoxy composites using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) has been also carried out in this paper.

Wafer fabrication process is the most important and critical process in semiconductor manufacturing. The process is very complicated and hard to establish an efficient schedule due to its complexity. Furthermore, several performance indices such as due dates, throughput, cycle time and workstation utilizations are to be considered simultaneously for an efficient schedule, and some of these indices have negative correlations in performances each other. We develop an efficient heuristic scheduling algorithm; Hybrid Input Control Policy and Hybrid Dispatching Rule. Through numerical experiments, it is shown that the proposed Hybrid Scheduling Algorithm gives better performance compared with existing algorithms.

Intricate deflection requires many conventional actuators (motors, pistons etc.), which can be financially and spatially wasteful. Novel smart soft composite (SSC) actuators have been suggested, but fabrication complexity restricts their widespread use as general-purpose actuators. In this study, a hybrid manufacturing process comprising 3-D printing and casting was developed for automated fabrication of SSC actuators with $200{\mu}m$ precision, using a 3-D printer (3DISON, ROKIT), a simple polymer mixer, and a compressor controller. A method to improve precision is suggested, and the design compensates for deposition and backlash errors (maximum, $170{\mu}m$). A suitable flow rate and tool path are suggested for the polymer casting process. The equipment and process costs proposed here are lower than those of existing 3D printers for a multi-material deposition system and the technique has $200{\mu}m$ precision, which is suitable for fabrication of SSC actuators.

We report on the optimization of the fabrication process of hybrid sol-gel thin film deposition to produce low cost $1 {\times} 16$ splitters for optical communications. We learn that sol-gel film thickness is dependent upon the spinning speeds and viscosity of the sol-gel solutions and refractive index upon the dopant concentrations of Al and Zr in the sol solutions. We could find the optimized physical conditions to achieve the desired thickness of core and cladding layers. We will further carry out the fabrication and measurements of insertion loss, polarization dependent loss (PDL), etc. for the performance of fabricated splitter devices.

The technology of rapid prototyping (RP) is used for design verification, function test and fabrication of prototype. The current issues in RP are improvement in accuracy and application of various materials. In this paper, a hybrid rapid prototyping system is introduced which can fabricate nano composites using various materials. This hybrid system adopts RP and machining process, so material deposition and removal is performed at the same time in a single station. As examples, micro gears and a composite scaffold were fabricated using photo cured polymer with nano powders such as carbon black and hydroxyapatite. From the micro gear samples the hybrid RP technology showed higher precision than those made by casting or deposition process.

A hybrid transparent electrode was fabricated with graphene and silver nanowires (Ag NWs). Three different processes were used to fabricate the hybrid electrode. Measurements of the sheet resistances, transmittances, and surface roughnesses of the hybrid electrodes were used to identify the optimal fabrication process. The surface roughness of the hybrid electrodes with Ag NWs embedded in a transparent polymer matrix was significantly lower than that of the other hybrid electrodes. A hybrid electrode fabricated by transferring graphene onto Ag NWs after spin-coating the Ag NWs onto the substrate showed the lowest sheet resistance. The transmittance of the hybrid electrodes was comparable to that of Ag NW electrodes.

An EP(Electrolytic Polishing)-MAP(Magnetic Abrasive Polishing) hybrid process was applied to remove burr on the micro pattern. Micro pattern fabrication processes are combined with micro milling and EP-MAP hybrid process for deburring. Depending on the micro milling conditions which are applied, micro burrs are formed around the side and top of the pattern. The EP-MAP deburring is used to remove these burrs effectively. To optimize removal rate and form error in the EP-MAP hybrid process, a design of experiment was performed. The effect of deburring process and form error of micro pattern are evaluated via SEM images and the results of AFM.

Micro electrical discharge machining (EDM) as a non-contact machining process is very effective for micromachining with a thin electrode because of its low machining reaction force. The micro-electrode machining device has the advantage of maintaining high precision through the whole processes and uses a feeding wire in the thin electrode tool manufacturing process. This study describes the design and evaluation of a micro-electrode machining device using optical photo-interrupter. The electrode was fabricated by reverse electrical discharge machining. The performance of designed system was evaluated to measure tension force according to feed speed of wire. This system for micro electrode fabrication proves the feasibility in the micro-EDM process of the micro holes and parts for industrial applications.

Recently, three-dimensional scaffolds and nanofibers are being developed for bone tissue regeneration. In this study, we fabricated a hybrid scaffold using a nano-micro precision deposition system. The fabrication process involved the application of the solid freeform fabrication (SFF) technology and electrospinning. The hybrid scaffolds were combined using micro scaffolds and nanofibers. The nanofibers were deposited on each layer of the micro scaffolding using the electrospinning process. The micro scaffolds were fabricated using the SFF technology at a temperature of $100^{\circ}C$, pressure of 650 kPa, and scan velocity of 250 mm/s. Nanofiber fabrication was conducted by means of electrospinning using the flow rate, solution concentration, distance from the tip to the collector (TCD), and voltage. The nanofibers were fabricated using a flow rate of 0.1 ml/min, voltage of 5 kV, TCD of 1 mm, and 10 wt% of solution concentration. MG-63 cells were seeded into the hybrid scaffold for the purpose of its evaluation.
