  • A facile and effective approach has been developed to prepare hybrid hollow microspheres, via consecutive processes of pickering mini-emulsion polymerization for core-shell formation, and calcination of the sacrificial core. The resulting hollow composite particles have mono-layered shells. The morphology and size characteristics of synthesized composite particles were investigated, using dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) measurements.

  • A novel silicone (Si) containing vinylic monomer, N-(3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl) methacrylamide (TESPMA), based on 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) and methacryloyl chloride (MCl) has been synthesized for formulation of waterborne polyurethane (WPU). Two types of vinyl group containing Si, methacryloxypropyltriethoxysilane (MPTES) and triethoxyvinylsilane (TEVS), have been used as coupling reagents for comparison of the effects of Si kinds with TESPMA on the WPU. A series of new siliconized WPU, vinyl acetate/vinyl ester of versatic acid (VAc-Veova), TESPMA, MPTES and TEVS hybrid latexes have been successfully prepared by emulsion polymerization in the presence of WPU dispersion.

  • The ecofriendly yellow ocher is used in the manufacturing of cosmetics, construction, and food packaging. The polyethylene terephthalate (PET) used for manufacturing food containers has a microporous structure that causes aeration. Hydrophilic yellow ocher may be applied to hydrophobic PET by surface modification to overcome this issue. The aim of this study is to fabricate a yellow ocher polystyrene hybrid structure in the form of nanoparticles using an optimizing molar ratio of styrene, divinylbenzene, and potassium peroxodisulfate for use in emulsion polymerization. The polymerization was conducted in a yellow ocher suspension that was prepared by dispersing mechanically ground yellow ocher in DI water. The prepared hybrid structure was measured using scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The measurement revealed the spherical morphology and Si component that resulted from the yellow ocher in the polystyrene particles. We expect that this hybrid structure would be used as platform material to minimize aeration in PET.

  • Herein, CdS-coated PMMA nanoparticles were prepared by in-situ surfactant-free emulsion copolymerization and subsequent CdS coating process. As-prepared CdS/PMMA hybrid particles had 201.7 nm in diameter. The amount of CdS nanocrystals in the hybrid particles was 10.37 wt% determined by TGA and elemental analysis. The size of CdS crystals was 3.55 nm preferentially grown in (111) plane. UV-vis spectrum of PMMA/CdS nanoparticles showed the significant blue-shift in optical illumination. The reason was found because the synthesized CdS nanocrystals on PMMA particles had a different band gap energy of 2.70 eV which was significantly higher than that of known-value of bulk CdS (2.41 eV) due to a quantum confinement effect.

  • Nanofood can be simply defined as natural polymer particles containing functional food materials in nanoscale that are synthesized by polymerization or emulisification process. They have very uniform diameters in the range of 1 to 100 nm and extensive surface areas due to the small particle size in spite of their non-porosity. Although the technique to produce nanofood has not Bong developing history, many works have been achieved in various fields. Nanofood has a lot of special advantages, such as functionality, diversity, applicability, etc. In case of the domestic food industries, however, the accumulation of related technique is insufficient against developed countries except used food materials. Also, it is difficult to acquire technical know-how from the developed countries that possess those technologies. We have been studied on preparing functional nanofood and developing new production processes since 1999. Last 5 years we have laid the foundation on the preparation of nanofood and now are focusing on developing new processes of nanofood and expending the field of its applications.

  • As part of recent low-energy policies, thermal insulation standards for buildings are being tightened every year. The importance of external insulation methods is increasing due to the strengthening of insulation standards. Among the main materials used in the external insulation method, dry bit material is a finishing material composed of an organic binder and aggregate. When the fire occurs, the ignition of the surface part causes a direct fire on the thermal insulation material at the rear side when heat energy is concentrated. Therefore, it is important that the finishing material in dry insulation using a dry bit has a low fire spreading property in case of a fire and does not have a sustained combustion. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fire spreadability by changing the internal fillers while using alkoxide-based acrylic emulsions, hybrid acrylic emulsions, and general acrylic emulsions in order to suppress the fire spreading properties of exterior finish materials.

  • Baroplastic poly(butyl acrylate) (PBA)/polystyrene (PS) blends were prepared by mixing PBA and PS emulsions synthesized by cationic and anionic surfactant, respectively. Interestingly, the heterocoagulation of nanoparticles have found to be affected strongly by emulsion concentration but the blends have been prepared with almost same compositions regardless of the amount of reactants. Utilizing this method, PBA/PS/Si hybrid nano-blends were prepared successfully via electrostatic attraction forces between PBA, PS and silica nanoparticles. The hybrid nano-blend having 2 or 5 wt% of silica was then processed to a semi-transparent film at $25^{\circ}C$ under 13.8 MPa for 10 min, which showed 3.0 MPa of tensile strength and 25 MPa of elastic modulus. Therefore, the heterocoagulation technique can be used for preparing baroplastics with uniform compositions of polymer and silica nanoparticles.

  • OMC is essentialiy necessary compound in sun goods as organic UV protecting products. But the skin-trouble problem is raising because of skin penetration of OMC. In this study, non-capsulated pure OMC was compared with Organic-Inorganic-Nano-hybrid OMC for skin penetration force and SPF degree. Organic- Inorganic Nano-Hybrid OMC is OMC trapped in the pore of the mesoporous silica synthesized by the sol-gel method after OMC is nanoemulsified in the system of the hydrogenated Lecithin/ Ethanol/caprylic/capric triglyceride/OMC/water. OMC- nano- emulsion was obtained by a microfluidizing process at 1000bar and then micelle size in the nanoemulsion solution is 100-200nm range. Mesoporous silica nano-hybrid OMC was prepared by the process; surfactant was added in dissolved OMC-Nanoemulsion, then the rod Micelle was formed. OMC-nanoemulsion was capsulated in this rod Micelle and then silica precursor was added in the OMC-nanoemulsion solution. Through the hydrolysis reaction of the silica precursor, mesoporous silica concluding OMC-Nanocapsulation was obtained. The nano-hybrid surface of this OMC-Nanoemulsion-Inorganic system was treated with polyalkyl-silane compound. OMC-Mesoporous silica Nano-hybrids coated with polyalkyl-silane compound show the higher sun protecting factor (SPF Analyzer: INDEX 10-15) than pure OMC and could reduce a skin penetration of OMC. The physico-chemical properties of these nano-hybrids measured on the SPF index, partical size, strcture, specific surface area, pore size, morphology, UV absorption, rate of the OMC dissolution using SPF Analyzer, Laser light scattering system, XRD, BET, SEM, chroma Meter, HPLC, Image analyzer, microfluidizer, UV/VIS. spectrometer.
