An Improved Vehicle Tracking Scheme Combining Range-based and Range-free Localization in Intersection Environment (교차로 환경에서 Range-based와 Range-free 위치측정기법을 혼합한 개선된 차량위치추적기법)

  • USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) environment permits us to access whatever information we want, whenever we want. The technologies to provide a basement to these environments premise an accurate location establishment. Especially, ITS(Intelligent Transportation Systems) is easily constructed by applying USN technology. Localization can be categorized as either Range-based or Range-free. Range-based is known to be not suitable for the localization based on sensor network, because of the irregularity of radio propagation and the additional device requirement. The other side, Range-free is much appropriated for the resource constrained sensor network because it can actively locate by means of the communication radio. But, generally the location accuracy of Range-free is low. Especially, it is very low in a low-density environment. So, these two methods have both merits and demerits. Therefore, it requires a new method to be able to improve tracking accuracy by combining the two methods. This paper proposes the tracking scheme based on range-hybrid, which can markedly enhance tracking accuracy by effectively using the information of surrounding nodes and the RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indication) that does not require additional hardware. Additionally, we present a method, which can improve the accuracy of vehicle tracking by adopting the prediction mechanism. Simulation results show that our method outperforms other methods in the transportation simulation environment.

An Hybrid Clustering Using Meta-Data Scheme in Ubiquitous Sensor Network (유비쿼터스 센서 네트워크에서 메타 데이터 구조를 이용한 하이브리드 클러스터링)

  • The dynamic clustering technique has some problems regarding energy consumption. In the cluster configuration aspect the cluster structure must be modified every time the head nodes are re-selected resulting in high energy consumption. Also, there is excessive energy consumption when a cluster head node receives identical data from adjacent cluster sources nodes. This paper proposes a solution to the problems described above from the energy efficiency perspective. The round-robin cluster header(RRCH) technique, which fixes the initially structured cluster and sequentially selects duster head nodes, is suggested for solving the energy consumption problem regarding repetitive cluster construction. Furthermore, the issue of redundant data occurring at the cluster head node is dealt with by broadcasting metadata of the initially received data to prevent reception by a sensor node with identical data. A simulation experiment was performed to verify the validity of the proposed approach. The results of the simulation experiments were compared with the performances of two of the must widely used conventional techniques, the LEACH(Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) and HEED(Hybrid, Energy Efficient Distributed Clustering) algorithms, based on energy consumption, remaining energy for each node and uniform distribution. The evaluation confirmed that in terms of energy consumption, the technique proposed in this paper was 29.3% and 21.2% more efficient than LEACH and HEED, respectively.

  • Due to the differences between a mobile ad-hoc network and a sensor network, the pre-existing autoconfiguration for a mobile ad-hoc network cannot be simply applied to a sensor network. But. a mechanism is still necessary to assign locally unique addresses to sensor nodes efficiently. This paper proposes a hybrid IDs assignment scheme of local area sensor networks. The IDs assignment scheme of hybrid method combines a proactive IDs assignment with a reactive IDs assignment scheme. The proposed scheme considers efficient communication using reactive IDs assignment, and security for potential attacks using zone-based self-organized clustering with Byzantine Agreement in sensor networks. Thus, this paper has solved the shortage of security due to minimizing network traffic and the problem of repairing the network from the effects of an aberrant node in sensor networks.

  • Localization is the most important feature in the sensor network environment because it is a basic element enabling people and things to aware the circumference environment. Existing localization methods can be categorized as either range-based or range-free. While range-based is known to be not suitable because of the irregularity of radio propagation and the additional device requirement. range-free is much appropriated for the resource constrained sensor network because it can actively locate by means of the communication radio. But its location accuracy is just depended on the density of circumference nodes; it is very low in low-density sensor network environment. This paper proposes a mobile object tracking method, named DRTS(Distributed Range-hybrid Tracking Scheme), with combining range-based and range-free. It is optimally making use of the location, communication range, and received signal strength from circumference nodes. Especially, it can greatly improve the mobile tracking accuracy by adapting a new prediction method, named EGP(Estimative Gird Points) into the proposed location estimation method. The simulation results show that our method outperforms the other localization and tracking methods in the tracking accuracy point of view.

Development of the Energy Harvesting Device using Piezoelectric Generator (압전 발전기를 이용한 에너지 수확 장치 개발)

  • Nowadays, source of MEMS, USN, Hybrid parts pay attention to energy harvesting. On this paper, energy harvesting was studied using piezoelectric effect. And, piezoelectric generator was designed and fabricated. Generators were designed by FEM simulation program and generators were made by attaching cymbal type metal plates on upper and bottom sides of a disc type piezoelectric ceramic. Output AC power was rectified to DC power by full bridge circuit and converted to regular voltage power by DC-DC converter. The final output power was charged to Ni-Cd battery. Using fabricated generators, output voltages dependant on thickness of ceramic, displacement of vibration, frequency of vibration were measured.

  • Due to the development and proliferation of ubiquitous technologies and services, various sensor network applications are being appeared on the stage. The needs for algorithms requiring sensor data fusion and complex signal processing with a high-performance processor such as a digital signal processor are also increased. However, it is difficult to use such processor for the low-power sensor network operating with a battery because of power consumption. This paper proposes a hybrid-type sensor module architecture supporting wakeup/sleep software framework for the wireless sensor node and shows the implemented sensor node platform and performances focused on the energy consumption and wakeup time.

Performance Analysis and Evaluation of Hybrid Compensation Algorithm for Localization (하이브리드형 위치인식 보정 알고리즘 성능 분석 및 평가)

  • In this paper, the hybrid compensation algorithm($A_{HB}$) for localization using the Compensation Algorithm distance($CA_d$) and the Algorithm of Equivalent Distance Rate(AEDR) in SDS-TWR(Symmetric Double-Sided Two-Way Ranging) is suggested and the performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed by practical experimentations. From experimentations, it is confirmed that the errors are reduced in 28 coordinates of total 32 coordinates in the experimental region and the errors are reduced about above 70% in the assigned 3 type error level ranges by $A_{HB}$. Also, it is analyzed that the average localization error is reduced from 2.67m to 1.19m as 55.4% in total 32 coordinates by $A_{HB}$ and the error compensation capability of $A_{HB}$ is very excellent as above 90%. From above results, we have seen that the error reduction ratio and error compensation capability of $A_{HB}$ is more excellent than each $CA_d$ or AEDR.

  • The legacy voice broadcast systems are used to broadcast the voice over an entire space or a specific zone. these broadcast systems generate unnecessary noise and waste of resources. In this paper, we propose a ubiquitous voice message broadcast system called uPaging, by combining the technique of location-awareness and the voice message delivery service in ubiquitous sensor network environment. In uPaging system, the wire/wireless hybrid network is used to implement the network system. Also, in order to actualize the location-awareness service, we use the Bidirectional Location ID-Exchange protocol was suggested by our previous research. the uPaging system can deliver the voice to a selected user or the location in which the user is present by this location awareness.
