When thermal conductivity of rock is measured with PEDB (Portable Electronic Divided Bar) in a laboratory, it can be greatly influenced by the change of room temperature. Therefore, measuring the thermal conductivity in a thermo-hygrostat is necessary, where it can remain in its constant temperature and humidity condition. In this study, a system for thermal conductivity measurement in a thermo-hygrostat has been set up and the thermal conductivities for the 45 samples collected from GH3 and GH4 boreholes in Ulleung Island have been measured both in dry and saturated conditions. Also, the correlations between those thermal conductivities, density, and effective porosity have been discussed. As a result of correlation analysis among the thermal conductivity, density, and effective porosity, it showed higher correlation with dry samples than saturated samples. Especially, thermal conductivity ratio between saturated and dry conditions shows very high correlation ($R^2=0.90$) with effective porosity.

The most failure mode of PEM fuel cell is gas crossover caused by pinhole formation in MEAs. The degradation phenomena of MEA with pinholes were evaluated in various accelerated operation condition, such as OCV, low humidity and high partial pressure of oxygen. The performances of MEA with pinholes were almost same before and after normal 144 hours operation($70^{\circ}C$, $640mA/cm^2$, 65%RH $H_2/air$). The results of accelerated operation showed that OCV and low humidity condition more deteriorated MEA than gas crossover owing to pinholes. When oxygen was used as cathode gas, the pinholes of MEA were enlarged due to heat of combustion reaction on Pt catalyst of electrodes. This combustion reaction occurred at pinholes near gas inlet and resulted in local MEA failure.

The purpose of this study is to measure and analyze the indoor thermal conditions in the spring of a korean coastal passenger ship which is 590-passenger Ro-Pax type built at 1997. Especially this study has focussed on the relations between the diffuser open ratio, which can be controlled by 12 steps, and the comfort. Followings are the results of this study. (1) The supply air volume to cabins are maximum 4.3 and 2 times more than design quantity when the diffusers in cabins are open 100% and 50%, respectively. (2) Regardless of diffuser open ratio, the supply air maintains constantly high temperature and below 10% of relative humidity through the experimental days. (3) All the cabins are not satisfied with the ASHRAE comfort criterion at the condition of 100% and 50% of diffuser open ratio, because of high temperature and low relative humidity. (4) At a low diffuser open ratio, number of cabins which satisfy the ASHRAE comfort criterion are increased. (5) Humidifying and dehumidifying, and hvac control system of each cabin must be reviewed and studied at the view of passengers to service more comfort environments.
Fungal contamination of built-in furniture is a frequent problem in Korea when new apartment is built. However, domestic information on the contaminating fungi is very limited. This study was conducted to isolate, identify and characterize the fungi of the problem in one of the apartment houses where the fungi were claimed in the built-in furniture before the house owner moves in. Fungi present in the furniture installed in a main room, dress room, and kitchen side were visually and microscopically confirmed and purely isolated on PDA. The isolated fungi were identified by analyzing the morphological characteristics and nucleotide sequence of the ITS, calmodulin gene, and TEF-1α gene. Aspergillus creber, A. niger, A. pseudoglacus, A. ruber, Cladosporium perangustum and Penicillium commune were identified. Four out of the six fungal species were positive for at least one enzyme in six kinds of extracellular enzyme assays. When these four species (A. creber, A. niger, C. perangustum and P. commune) were inoculated onto four kinds of wood chips of furniture materials, they were able to colonize all of the wood chips. Their settlement was better at 95% humidity condition than at 30% humidity condition. Among the four species, C. perangustum caused the darkest discoloration and secreted the most number of extracellular enzymes. The four species were re-isolated from the colonized wood chips and confirmed as the problematic fungi in the built-in furniture.

The stress distribution and stress amplitude of a membrane are major factors to decide the mechanical fatigue life of PEMFC (Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell). In this paper, mechanical stresses under operating hygro-thermal condition of the membrane are numerically modelled. Contact analysis between gas diffusion layer (GDL) and the membrane is performed under various temperature-humidity conditions. The structural model has nonlinear material properties depending on temperature and relative humidity. Several geometric conditions are applied to the model. The numerical analysis results indicate that deformations of the membrane are strongly related with assembly conditions of the fuel cell. The fatigue life is predicted for practical operating condition through experimental data.
Water vapor adsorption kinetics of vacuum-dried jujube powder were investigated in temperature and relative humidity ranges of 10 to $40^{\circ}C$ and 32 to 75%, respectively. Water vapor was initially adsorbed rapidly and then reached equilibrium condition slowly. Reaction rate constant for water vapor adsorption of vacuum-dried jujube powder increased with an increase in temperature. The temperature dependency of water activity followed the Clausius-Clapeyron equation. The net isosteric heat of sorption increased with an increase in water activity. Good straight lines were obtained with plotting of $1/(m-m_0)$ vs. 1/t. It was found that water vapor adsorption kinetics of vacuum-dried jujube powder was accurately described by a simple empirical model, and temperature dependency of the reaction rate constant followed the Arrhenius-type equation. The activation energy ranged from 50.90 to 56.00 kJ/mol depending on relative humidity. Arrhenius kinetic parameters ($E_a$ and $k_0$) for water vapor adsorption by vacuum-dried jujube powder showed an effect between the parameters with the isokinetic temperature of 302.51 K. The information on water vapor adsorption kinetics of vacuum-dried jujube powder can be used to establish the optimum condition for storage and processing of jujube.
Quality of PEDOT electrode thin film vapor phase-polymerized on 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APS) self-assembled monolayer (SAM) is very crucial for making an ohmic contact between electrode and semiconductor layer of an organic transistor. In order to improve the quality of PEDOT film, the quality of APS-SAM laying underneath the film must be in the best condition. In this study, in order to improve the quality of APS-SAM, the monolayer was self-assembled on $SiO_2$ surface by a dip-coating method under strictly controlled relative humidity (< 18%RH). The quality of APS-SAM and PEDOT thin film were investigated with a contact angle analyzer, AFM, FE-SEM, and four-point probe. The investigation showed that a PEDOT film grown on the humidity-controlled SAM is very smooth and compact (sheet resistivity = 20.2 Ohm/sq) while a film grown under the uncontrolled condition is nearly amorphous and contains quite many pores (sheet resistivity = 200 Ohm/sq). Therefore, this study clearly proves that a highly improved quality of APSSAM can offer a highly conductive PEDOT electrode thin film on it.

This study was conducted to develop new drying process for automatic control and marine engi-neering system. Air-water tests were carried out to investigate dryer performance. The dispersed flow in he dryer test apparatuses was also simulated by using a numerical code which solves the Dittus-Boelter equation for continuous liquid phase and the Reynolds equation of droplet motion for continuous liquid phase and the Reynolds equation of droplet motion for dispersed phase to predict droplet removal efficiency. Proper conditions for dehumidification were optimized by response ambient conditions. When the selected indexes were constrained in the range of 85-98% moisture content above $15^{\circ}$ and more than mass flow rates of moist air 750kg/h. The numerical results were compared with the experimental data pertaining to the removal effi-ciency at chamber stage and overall pressure drop along concentric tubes Good agreement was obtained as for the efficiency while relatively poor agreement was obtained for the relative humidity. The results also showed that the efficiency depended strongly on the relative humidity at the inlet condition which indicated the importance of estimating the heat exchanger length. Effects of some design parameters in both removal efficiency and breakthrough onset condition are discussed.
Humidity control of proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) is very important control condition during driving. In terms of water management, low humidification conditions are advantageous, and high humidification is advantageous in terms of drainage utilization and energy efficiency. In this study, the characteristics of outlet water in low humidification and high humidification process were studied in terms of utilization of discharged water. Since the impurities in the effluent are generated during the degradation of the membrane and the electrode assembly(MEA), degradation of the MEA under low humidification and high humidification conditions was also studied. The rate of radical generation was high at low humidification condition of the anode RH 0%, which showed that it was the main cause of the degradation of the polymer membrane. Analysis of effluent showed low concentration of fluoride ion concentration of about 20 ppb at high humidification (both electrodes RH 100%) and 0.6 V, which was enough to be used as the feed water for electrolysis. Very low concentration of platinum below 0.2 ppb was detected in the condensate discharged from the high humidification condition.

This study was conducted to investigate the thermal environment status of nursery rooms in workplace daycare centers in Jeju and propose measures to improve their indoor physical thermal environment. For this purpose, measurements were performed in the winter indoor physical environment of 51 nursery rooms in 11 workplace daycare centers and a psychological evaluation survey on the thermal environment of nursery rooms was conducted for 70 nursery teachers. The investigation was carried out over 11 days in January 2017. The results are as follow. The average indoor temperature of the nursery rooms was $21.3^{\circ}C$($18.7-23.8^{\circ}C$) and the indoor temperatures of 47 nursery rooms (92.9%) were higher than the environmental hygiene management standard for domestic school facilities ($18-20^{\circ}C$). The average relative humidity was 33.9% (16.4-56.0%), and 37 nursery rooms (86.3%) showed a lower average relative humidity than the standard (40-70%). The average absolute humidity was $9.1g/m^3$ ($4.7-13.6g/m^3$), which was lower than the standard for preventing influenza ($10g/m^3$). When the indoor temperature and humidity of the nursery rooms were compared with international standards, it was found that 85% or more of the 51 nursery rooms maintained appropriate indoor temperatures, but 40-50% of the nursery rooms maintained a low humidity condition. Therefore, they need to pay attention to maintaining the appropriate humidity of the nursery room to keep the children healthy. The average indoor temperature of the nursery rooms showed a weak negative correlation with the average relative humidity. The indoor temperature had a significant effect on the relative humidity: a higher indoor temperature resulted in lower relative humidity. Regarding the fluctuations in the average indoor temperature of the nursery rooms during the day, in daycare centers that used floor heating, the indoor temperature gradually increased form the morning to the afternoon and tended to decrease during lunch time and the morning and afternoon snack times, due to ventilation. The daycare centers that used both floor heating and ceiling-type air conditioners showed a higher indoor temperature and greater fluctuations in temperature compared to the daycare centers that used floor heating only. In the survey results, the average value of the whole body thermal sensation was 3.0 (neutral): 32 respondents (62.7%) answered, "Neutral", Which was the largest number, followed by 21 respondents (30%) who answered, "Slightly hot" and 17 respondents (24.2%) who answered, "Slightly cold." Twenty-nine respondents answered, "Slightly dry," which was the largest number, followed by 28 respondents (54.9%) who answered, "Neutral" and 10 respondents (19.6%) who answered, "Dry." The total number of respondents who answered, "Slightly dry" or "Dry" was large at 39 (56.4%), which suggests the need for indoor environment management to prevent a low-humidity environment. To summarize the above results about the thermal environment of nursery rooms, as the indoor temperature increased, the relative humidity decreased. This suggests the effect of room temperature on the indoor relative humidity; however, frequent ventilations also greatly decrease the relative humidity. Therefore, the ventilation method and the usage of air conditioning systems need to be re-examined.
