  • This study aimed to confirm the effect of social and relational behavior types of robots on human cognition in human-robot interaction. In the experiment, the participants evaluated trust in robots by watching a video on the robot Nao interacting with a human, in which the robot made an error and then made an effort to restore trust. The trust recovery behavior was set as three conditions: an internal attribution in which the robot acknowledges and apologizes for an error, a condition in which the robot apologizes for an error but attributes it externally, and a non-action condition in which the robot denies the error itself and does not take any action for the error. As the result, in all three cases, the error was perceived as less serious when the robot apologized than when it did not, and the ability of the robot was also highly evaluated. These results provide evidence that human attitudes towards robots can respond sensitively depending on the robot's behavior and how they overcome errors, suggesting that human perception towards robots can change. In particular, the fact that robots are more trustworthy when they acknowledge and apologize for their own errors shows that robots can promote positive human-robot interactions through human-like social and polite behavior.

  • Performance shaping factors (PSFs) in a human reliability analysis (HRA) are one that may influence human performance in a task. Most currently applicable HRA methods for nuclear power plants (NPPs) use PSFs to highlight human error contributors and to adjust basic human error probabilities (HEPs) that assume nominal conditions of NPPs. Thus far, the effects of PSFs have been treated independently. However, many studies in the fields of psychology and human factors revealed that there may be relationships between PSFs. Therefore, the inter-relationships between PSFs need to be studied to better reflect their effects on operator errors. This study investigates these inter-relationships using two data sources and also suggests a context-based approach to treat the inter-relationships between PSFs. Correlation and factor analyses are performed to investigate the relationship between PSFs. The data sources are event reports of unexpected reactor trips in Korea and an experiment conducted in a simulator featuring a digital control room. Thereafter, context-based approaches based on the result of factor analysis are suggested and the feasibility of the grouped PSFs being treated as a new factor to estimate HEPs is examined using the experimental data.

  • This study aimed to improve the Traffic Accident Management System's validity and reliability, so the system could help classify and judge the human factors that correlate with traffic accidents. We took traffic accident research and analysis systems of United States and United Kingdom and certain related, former studies into account in building our test system. Next, we used the test system's criteria to re-analyze 502 Gyeonggi province accident records from 2008. We compared the results to existing systems' results to verify the test system's validity and reliability. These results indicated the necessity of removing some uncertain items from the existing systems and adding in some new items from the test system. This should help improve understanding of what happens at traffic accident scenes and of the sources of drivers' abnormal, reckless behavior. We introduce suggestions for improving the Traffic Accident Management System and research concepts for further studies.

  • Human beings receive experiences and education in viewing and manipulating objects since birth, These experiences in forms and colours influence signifrcantty the formation of the person's humanity, sensibility and constituOOn until he becomes an adult. Considering that all objects coexist through space and time with human beings from birth to an adulthood, we can imagine how these things shape a person, Human beings' perception of form and colour might be different according to the person's living environment, experiences, education, age and job, However, when we see there are certain kinds of form and colour of that most people favor, we can understand that human beings have a certain inherent feelings about forms and colours, Let's suppose a man faces an object that dosen't correspond with his basic feelings about form and colour, He would avoid that object at least unconsoousty, All of his acts dealing with form and colour probably satisfy a desire for beauty which can be required from certain proper forms and colours, By revealing the feelings about forms and colours that human beings originally have, this study is going to explore what kinds of form and colour have what kinds of psychological and physical influences on human beings. Another purpose of this study is to be a theory suggesting more profitable and effective forms and colours psychologically and physically to the consumer. this study demonstrates that the basic feelings about forms and colours which human beings possess are different according to the individual's psychology and the body's condition. It also establishes the reality of the principle of how human psychology and the body change according to the surrounding environment. Finally, it will be appropriate for the suggested theory from this study to be used as fundamental material in deciding the forms and colours used in the design field in the future in that these forms and colours are more profitable and efftient.

  • A systemic approach to behavior on the basis of human psychology is needed for behavior-centered space design. Also, the recognition that human and environment, in all, have complementarity is needed- human and space shall be understood as a general phenomenon, supposing interaction. Design of behavior-oriented space means configuration and coordination of physical subjects as well as understanding, analysis and reflection of psychological and behavioral phenomena. It is analysis of a private individual as well as understanding of interaction between human groups, as well. In respect of space recognition, analysis not on material movement but on energy circulation and variable is important. It means that the understanding of user's behavior and psychology does not orient reasonable purpose just for convenience. That is, such understanding intends to understand behavioral patterns and psychological phenomena between space and human beyond the decomposition of structure of human and space into physical elements and the design based on standardized data. Thereby, more human-oriented space design might be implemented by the understanding of behavioral essence. Also, a user-centered design process from another viewpoint might be created, and the general amenity among man, space and environment - better environmental quality - might be produced. For this, the consciousness of human activity that is, activity system shall be ahead of it, and the approaches for design shall be implemented into a process not in predictive ideas but in semi-scientific system. On the basis of the above view, this study was attempted to investigate the orientation of design to recognize space as another life, and explore a process where it is drawn into a design language on the basis of human behavior. If the essence of space behavior and the activity system are analyzed through user observation and it is reflected upon a space design program and then developed into a formative language, a new design process on human and environment might be produced. In conclusion, the reflection of user's behavior and psychology into design, contrary to existing public space design based on physical data, can orient quality improvement of human life and ultimately be helpful to the proposition, 'humanization of space'.

  • Detecting and assessing human-related risks is critical to improve the on-site safety condition and reduce the loss in lives, time and budget for construction industry. Recent research in neural science and psychology suggest inattentional blindness that caused by overload in working memory is the major cause of unexpected human related accidents. Due to the limitation of human mental workload, laborers are vulnerable to unexpected hazards while focusing on complicated and dangerous construction tasks. Therefore, detecting the risk perception abilities of workers could help to identify vulnerable individuals and reduce unexpected injuries. However, there are no available measurement approaches or devices capable of monitoring construction workers' mental conditions. The research proposed in this paper aims to develop such a measurement framework to evaluate hazards through monitoring electroencephalogram of labors. The research team developed a wearable safety monitoring helmet, which can collect the brain waves of users for analysis. A bispectrum approach has been developed in this paper to enrich the data source and improve accuracy.

  • Electroencephalographic(EEG) is used to record activities of human brain in the area of psychology for many years. As technology developed, neural basis of functional areas of emotion processing is revealed gradually. So we measure fundamental areas of human brain that controls emotion of human by using EEG. Hands gestures such as shaking and head gesture such as nodding are often used as human body languages for communication with each other, and their recognition is important that it is a useful communication medium between human and computers. Research methods about gesture recognition are used of computer vision. Many researchers study Emotion Recognition method which uses one of EEG signals and Gestures in the existing research. In this paper, we use together EEG signals and Gestures for Emotion Recognition of human. And we select the driver emotion as a specific target. The experimental result shows that using of both EEG signals and gestures gets high recognition rates better than using EEG signals or gestures. Both EEG signals and gestures use Interactive Feature Selection(IFS) for the feature selection whose method is based on the reinforcement learning.
