Background: Occupational health and safety (OHS) is a significant interest of all governments to prevent workplace hazards. Although appropriate legislation and regulations are essentials for the protection of workers, they are solely not enough. Application of them in practice should be secured by an efficient inspection system. Fundamental components of an inspection system are inspectors and their audit tasks. Maintaining the fair balanced task assignment among inspectors strictly enhances the efficiency of the overall system. Methods: This study proposes a two-phased goal programming approach for OHS inspectors' task assignments and presents a case study. Results: The solution approach gives the balanced assignment of inspectors to the workplaces in different cities of the country in the planning period. The obtained schedule takes into account the distances covered by the work places and the number of the workplaces' employees to be audited and pays attention to the human factors by considering the preferences of the inspectors. The comparisons between the obtained optimal schedule and the implemented one that is produced manually show that the approach not only maintains the technical requirements of the problem, but also provides social and physical balance to the task assignment. Conclusion: Both the approach and the application study are expected to offer fruitful inspirations in the area of safety management and policy and they provide a good guide for social policy and organizational aspects in the field of OHS inspectors' task assignment.
Visual defect inspection for electronics parts manufacturing processes is comprised of 2 steps - automatic visual inspection by machine and inspection by human inspectors. It is necessary that spatial points which were detected by the machine should be adequately clustered for subsequent human inspection. This research deals with the spatial clustering algorithm for the purpose of process productivity improvement. Distribution based clustering is newly developed and experimentally confirmed to show better clustering efficiency than existing algorithm - area based clustering.
Due to economical or technological reasons. humans are responsible for inspection functions in many cases. Humans. however. are rarely perfect. thus allowing non-confirming parts to be processed. As the attributes of interest or the variety of products increases. the inspection system becomes less effective because of the sensory and cognitive limitations of human inspectors. Any means that can support or aid the human inspectors is necessary to compensate for inspection difficulty. Augmented reality (AR) offers a new approach in designing an inspection system as a means to augment the cognitive capability of inspectors by providing the 3D spatial proximity between two information channels. The experimental results suggest that AR might be an effective tool that reduces inspection time without sacrificing the measuring accuracy.
A paired comparison which is a method of comparative judgements is widely used to increase the amount of information transmitted to human sense organ. In this study, a paired comparison method is proposed for the discrimination capacity and preference analysis of non-skilled sensory inspectors. We consider on order effect, that is, difference of evaluation occurred as a result of sample presentation by random order. The purpose of this paper is to determine a sample with the highest preference degrees by analyzing a discrimination capacity and evaluating preference degrees of sensory inspectors. An analysis of a discrimination capacity is bared on the capacity index obtained by an eigen-vector method and an evaluation of preference degrees is performed by a significance test.
Although unmanned aerial vehicles have been used to overcome the limited accessibility of human-based visual inspection, unresolved issues still remain. Onsite inspectors face difficulty finding previously detected damage locations and tracking their status onsite. For example, an inspector still marks the damage location on a target structure with chalk or drawings while comparing the current status of existing damages to their previous status, as documented onsite. In this study, an augmented-reality-based structural inspection system with onsite damage information marking was developed to enhance the convenience of inspectors. The developed system detects structural damage, creates a holographic marker with damage information on the actual physical damage, and displays the marker onsite via an augmented reality headset. Because inspectors can view a marker with damage information in real time on the display, they can easily identify where the previous damage has occurred and whether the size of the damage is increasing. The performance of the developed system was validated through a field test, demonstrating that the system can enhance convenience by accelerating the inspector's essential tasks such as detecting damages, measuring their size, manually recording their information, and locating previous damages.
In this paper, an automatic side-view inspection algorithm for LCD modules is proposed. Until now, most parts of inspection is performed by human inspectors, which means very high product costs. So inspection automation is the very hot issue in the LCD industries. However, it is not easy problem to replace the human by computer vision system. In the many inspections which are based on the human eyes, side-view inspection is most hard problem to solve. In this paper, an image morphing algorithm is developed, which will help to enable the automation of the side-view inspection process.
In this paper, some automatic inspection algorithms for LCD module are suggested. Human eyes are very good for the inspection in many industrial areas. However, very bright LCD back lighting may cause permanent damage to the human eyes. Also, the growing size of the LCD make it more difficult for the human inspectors. Therefore, using camera set, automatic inspection process becomes very essential for the future LCD industry.

The purpose of this research is to comprehend experimentally the characteristic of human dynamic load and provide the result as basic data to suggest a valid impact-resistance evaluation method. Human motions exerting dynamic load are classified to 3 types. Selecting 3 ranks of motion strength, 3 ranks of load plane stiffness (A:20kN/cm, B:4.7kN/cm, C:2.2kN/cm), and 30 male grownup inspectors in their twenties, load was measured when they applied force on load plane. Result of this research is as follows: (1) Human dynamic load has different nature from object collision in the highest load ratio depending on the load plane stiffness and action time (2) The highest load ratio for each motion was 10.06 for kicking, 4.44 for hitting with shoulder, and 5.58 for fist blow.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to analyze the current status of possession of measurement and analytical instruments at work environment monitoring organizations and their relationships with human resources, including the number of professional engineers and evaluation scores resulting from evaluation programs in 2012. Materials: Data for measurement and analytical instruments were gathered by inspectors who had been assigned by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency(KOSHA) and the Ministry of Employment and Labor(MoEL) during the evaluation program for 2012. Data for 11 monitoring instruments and nice pieces of analytical equipment were collected from 103 organizations. Additional data such as the type of service provides and the number of professional engineers employed were also recorded by the inspectors. Evaluation scores could be acquired from KOSHA. Results: Comprehensive Occupational Health Service Providers showed good operation quality, while University or Hospital Subsidiary and Work Environment Monitoring Organizations recorded relatively poor results. Evaluation scores correlated well with the possession of measurement instruments and human resources for each organization. High yields provided by professional engineers also showed statistically-associated contributions to evaluation scores and monitoring instrument possession. Compared with monitoring instruments, the amount of analytical equipment had little positive impact on organizations' competence. Conclusions: The evaluation results for domestic monitoring organizations revealed that human resources, possession of instruments, and the quality of employees were critical factors for operating the corporations. Each organization should give considerable effort to improving their ability to strengtheninternal quality, resulting in high-yield production for workers and employers by providing improved workplace monitoring services.
Manpower will need to be increased to conduct special fire inspections. The aim of this study was to predict the manpower required. According to the estimate, 20,332 inspectors will be needed to conduct special fire inspection on a two-person team basis for a year. If the entire object is to be inspected for five-years, it will be inspected at 20% per year. The currently manpower is not enough to inspect all the objects, which will result in a poor inspection. Therefore, the adoption of a full and partial inspection system will be considered. If 10% full inspection and 10% partial inspection will be conducted, 2,734 inspectors will be needed, whereas if 2% of full inspection and 18% partial inspection are conducted, 1,669 inspectors will be needed.
