Electronic Travel Aids (ETA) developed for the blind such as sonicguide, mowat sensor and bionic C-5 laser cane have many problems like technical deficiency and high cost. Moreover, these systems have need for more training to perceive obstacle around. Therefore, In this study, we studied the blind's obstacle perception characteristics by human auditory sense, and development of ultrasonic ETA which have more simple usage, low cost and immediate usableness than present ETAs.
With the rapid development of current internet, digital age make human beings intangible. Haptic sense was recognized less important than visual sense and auditory sense, but it plays an important role in determining the quality of products. The goals of this study are embodying haptics using Visual and Auditory preception and designing Visual-Auditory Haptic interface, in the case of actual touching is required but impossible. This study was carried out 3 steps. Firstly, developing the concept of Visual-Auditory Haptic Interface(VAHI) was carried out to make it certain the direction of this study. To get common factors of VAHI, this study researched physical-mechanism of visual, auditory, and haptics senses, and psychological-mechanism. Secondly, identifying factors of V/A haptic sense was analysed by web-evaluation test, to be categorized 11 Emotional Haptic Factors(EHF) and some Design Haptic Factors(DHF). The relation of EHF and DHF was analysed and summarized to VAHI design check sheet. Finally, Applying DHF to VAHI by EHF according to VAHI design check sheet was validated by web-evaluation test, to be resulted 13% increase in reliability and the same in usability. Conclusively, the possibility of embodying haptics using Visual and Auditory preception was resulted to be valid. And this concept can be applied to an interface, such a internet shopping mall and virtual reality, which requires actual touching to perceive haptic information, but it is impossible.

The concept of human emotion is recently demanded to be imbedded in industrial product and environment for enhancing quality of life. Human emotion is attempted to be qualified and quantified by physiological measurements. EEG variation, one of the physiological measurement, is observed to characterize psychological response in this study. This study is to find function and process of brain according to emotion. Twenty university students participated in this study and experienced positive and negative emotion by auditory stimulus. Delta, theta, alpha and beta waves showed characteristic variation in normalized sense according to positive and negative emotion. Local area showing significant difference between positive and negative emotion decreases with stimulus duration. Delta, theta and beta waves increase with negative emotion while alpha wave does with positive emotion.
Psychological action is physiological response of outernal stimulus. Physiological response is accompanied b physiological signals which are EEG, EMG, GSR, ECG, BP, and tec. Physiological signals are recently studied for determination of human phychological state. Psychological activity causes electric potential of brain. Physiological signal is considered as measurement of human psychological state. Aditory sensibility which is one of the sense of human may determine differences between positive and negative feeling. EEG and GSR variation with auditory quality of stimulus can be define human negative and positive mental state. This study is to characterize parameters which can determine negative and positive psycholigical state of human.
This paper presents a method for conversion of muscular sense into both visual and auditory senses based on synesthetic perception. Muscular sense can be defined by rotation angles, direction changes and motion degrees of human body. Synesthetic interconversion can be made by learning, so that it can be possible to create intentional synesthetic phenomena. In this paper, the muscular sense was converted into both color and sound signals which comprise the great majority of synesthetic phenomena. The measurement of muscular sense was performed by using the AHRS(attitude heading reference system). Roll, yaw and pitch signals of the AHRS were converted into three basic elements of color as well as sound, respectively. The proposed method was finally applied to a wearable device, Samsung gear S, successfully.
This study is to observe human observe human positive and negative sensibility according to modalities such as auditory, visual, olfactory and tactile sense. Twenty university students are participated in this study. Experiment is performed in the subject room specially designed. Measurement system is Spectrum 32 (Cadwell) and is capable of brain mapping. The results shows brain local areas showing statistically significant difference between the positive and negative sensibility in ergonomics.

Recently, a method for detecting animal tinnitus objectively, gap prepulse inhibition of acoustic startling (GPIAS) were reported. However, the GPIAS method is difficult to be directly applied to human tinnitus research because measuring repeatedly startling responses evoked by more than 110 dB SPL acoustic stimuli for human is not easy. In this paper, the auditory late latency response (ALLR) measurement system which can measure conveniently evoked potentials involving the information about the brain cortical activity related with auditory psychologic phenomena such as a tinnitus has been implemented. By using the implemented system, 8 persons with normal hearing sense have been experimented to measure N1-P2 amplitudes of ALLRs evoked by gap prepulse based acoustic stimuli. Through the experimental results, the prepulse inhibitions of all the participants' N1-P2 responses have been observed and their characteristics were evaluated. And it is verified that our implemented system can be utilized as a device for researching and evaluating the objective tinnitus detection method in the future study.
Jazz derived from the blacks' work songs and made the frame of Jazz reaching blues and finally arrived at the recent time propagating itself as not only the blacks' music but all human being's music. This study has a purpose to suggest the Jazz image to the fashion design by examining the historical trace of Jazz which is one of popular music received by hearing sense. As for the result of the Jazz's effects by age, rhythmical beauty stressing dresses were in fashion by dance enjoying women in 1920's and dresses giving a mature atmosphere set the fashion in 1930's. in the beginning of 1990's, newly emerging Jazz was reflected to the popular culture along with the historical mode's fashion in the general society. The design's decided with two themes of Jazz Classic and Neo Fusion to modernly and naturally express the pursuit of strong color contrast which associated fast rhythm and lax image such as the counter melody of smooth Jazz. In that result, Jazz image with auditory feelings could suggest the various design motive and new idea to fashion design.

Each reproducing speech signal has each particular signal property, because of the processing of encoding and decoding for communications through various media. In this paper, we examine the correlation between speech signal quality and sensory pleasure for the sensory improvement of that signal. In experiments, we evaluate the quality of speech signals through various media by psychological auditory test and physical features of these signals.
Although past design developments that emphasized only the outer appearances of products were mostly concentrated on the areas of forms and colors in an attempt to satisfy humans' visual needs, it is expected that future designs to come will go in the direction to stimulate more diversified human senses. This means expansions to the five senses including the auditory sense, the sense of smell, the tactile sense and the taste and even to the area of synesthesia where two or more senses are stimulated or coexist. Although the dictionary definition of synesthesia is a concept of arousing another sense through a sense, studies of synesthesia in design go one step further from here to mean compound senses, that is, the synesthesia in an expanded meaning to feel an object (thing) through many sensory organs simultaneously. The synesthesia in the expanded meaning is applying multiple senses simultaneously in recognizing one thing to comprehensively judge and feel the thing. Recent design trends are going in a direction to basically satisfy humans' visual needs through controlled forms and colors while inducing another new feeling through expressions of diverse feels of materials within existing forms. In this change of the times, studies on furniture designs are conducted through factors of in synesthesia linked with other senses and have an important meaning that can enhance the value of designs.
