This study is to organize the frame of measuring inventory for housing quality related to mental health in foreign literature reviews. In the first step, many housing quality contents or items are extracted from empirical studies, including housing environment quality and mental health. In the next step, extracted contents and items are classified by space scope (house and neighborhood unit) and WHO housing properties (safety & security, health & sanitation, efficiency/convenience, comfort/amenity). Almost all housing properties follow the WHO standard, but some properties, sustainability and economic characteristics, do not follow the standard. These reflect on current Korean housing environment. They are energy saving and environment friendly effort, property value and economic burden, identity expression, and school district. So they need to be added to the Korean housing quality measurement related to mental health.
The purpose of the study is to investigate the characteristics of the elderly housing preference and spatial usage to plan floor space of the elderly housing by the respondents of the ages 50 to 79. Based on the result of the study, it is suggested that the elderly housing should be located in regards to social environmental factors rather than natural environmental ones. There are differences in preference for the space planning of housing units such as the number of rooms and bathrooms, and floor space depending on income level, so the housing should be differently planned to accept the difference of preference. On the other hand, there is not notable difference in furniture preference for each space. In the characteristics of spatial usage according to behaviors, high-income respondents demonstrate the characteristics of spatial usage in accordance with a western lifestyle. Thus, behaviors such as sleeping, watching TV, resting, reading, conversation, and receiving guests, occur using such things as beds, sofas, and dinning tables. On the other hand low-income respondents show a mixed western and traditional lifestyle. Thus many behaviors are done on the floor of bedroom and livingroom in addition to using furniture such as a sofa and chairs. Therefore, the way of spatial usage has to be reflected in the floor space planning. At least floor space of the provided rooms should be planned to accommodate the behavior of the elderly even though all of the rooms preferred can not be provided.
This study was designed to derive the characteristics of shared space composition of shared housing for one-person household through an examination on domestic and overseas cases. To examine the systematic approach to the planning of shared space, the concept and current status of shared housing were analyzed; and, the concept of shared space was derived based on the concept of Altman and, through the analysis on cases of shared housing, the shared space was classified into shared spaces for living support, passage, and community. And then, based on the standard of classification of shared space, the configuration of shared space in shared housing was examined through the analysis on domestic and oversea cases. Thereby, the arrangement and function of each type of compartment in shared space were examined and the configuration of the shared space prepared for an entrance of residents was analyzed and classified into 6 types. Each type revealed a relationship between privacy, living, passage and internal community which were all provided with respective configurative characteristics of each space. Result obtained from this study is estimated that they could be used as a basic data for the design or planning of shared spaces in shared and further, they could also be employed for the design or development of shared spaces of such houses taken the type and characteristics of residents into account.
This research analyzes the types of resident's satisfaction and the preferred rental housing types in Gwangju. The results are summarized as follows : This study devided the characters of resident's satisfaction into four factors and classified the types of residents into three specific groups by the factors of resident's satisfaction : high dwelling density and management improvement demanding type, medium size and general satisfaction type, environmental improvement demanding type The first type includes the lowest income group and relatively high income group coincidently. They need wider living space or want improvement of the level of management service. The second type omnipresently satisfies not only medium sized living space but also other items. This type will be regarded as the inducement standard for the rental housing policy. The third type includes the lowest group in economic and physical level who wants the general upgrade of living space and management level. And, residents need long-term rental housing and wider housing area by 5 pyong.

Most of our traditional residental environment, which made Koreans to communicate with neighbors, disappeared from the result of providing great quantity on housing. However, the increase of the income and standard of living, changed people's view. People start to demand for the place which is commodious and comfortable to live. Moreover, more leisure time caused people to communicate with their neighbors. To meet the demands of new forms of housing, they started to provide a community space to increase sense of belonging and community spirit for the residents in apartment house. The forms of past house which is defined by uniformity is delivered from rational thoughts. People can get emotional satisfaction from Community space because it provides opportunity of communicating and increase community spirit. This research is to classify the emotional expression in Community space and analyze the elements that is expressed in community space of apartment house.
The study was to grasp features of new material applicable to housing space in the sustainable side by analyzing materialistic features of new material and features of sustainable material with sustainable new material. Through analysis on sustainable new material, the study deducted the below conclusion. First, through the precedent studies, the characteristics of sustainable materials have been classified into eight categories : friendly healthiness, non-toxicity, comfortableness, naturality, recycling, harmlessness of environment, separate collection, reusability. After the criteria have been brought up from new material applicable to housing space in the sustainable. Second, in materialistic Characteristics of new material, 'New Process' was mainly applied. There was no any new material applied to 'new raw material'. Therefore, it is thought that it is necessary to study on development of perfectly new material and to study on new material to apply material used in other fields to finishing material of dwelling space. Third, in Characteristics of sustainable material, 'Re-serviceability' appeared most and 'Non-toxicity' and 'Recycling' appeared in the next. 'Friendly Healthiness' and 'Separate collection' appeared only one on the other side. Therefore, it is judged that it is necessary to develop and study new material including health components considering user's health, function for health increase and function to grope comfort for humans. Finally, after researching and analysis the criteria by recently presented the new material, it has been concluded that the standard can be used as the criteria of new material for the possibility of application in housing space. On the basis of the study, the author will carry out analysis on sustainable new material minutely and utilize it as basic data to suggest a standard of sustainable new material applicable to dwelling space in the future.
This study is planning improvement of welfare facilities about the hall for the aged in apartment housing. An apartment house, famous residential type in Korea, put an important value on its convenience and economical efficiency of furniture arrangement by maximizing floor space index. In this regard, leisure usage of house was not carefully considered for the aged people. To redefine the efficiency of welfare facilities, research mainly deals with analysis of realistic needs for the aged through the spot survey and interview. The main purpose of this study is to enhance the quality of welfare facilities and propose the improved welfare facilities for the aged people. Through the research, conclusions are as followed First, Facility standard and provisions of the law should be revised for considering population growth of the aged people. Second, there are 4 plan types in the hall for the aged. Contrary to our expectation, diversity of program was not found however various program planning is needed for considering its different types of plan. Third, according to regulation, space restriction is based on the number of households. Therefore, room and space standard does not depend on the number of people. From now on, in order to improve quality of welfare facilities of the aged, revision of laws and overall facility standard should be implemented in advance.
The purpose of this study is to develop the housing welfare indicators for evaluating housing welfare policies conducted by the Korean government. The contents of this research were as follows: as a phrase of setting up the development of housing welfare indicators, the scope of housing welfare and the direction of developing housing welfare indicators were settled. Second, as a phrase of drawing the housing welfare indicators, the indicators were categorized and selected. Third, as a phrase of applying the housing welfare indicators, the indicators in this research were quantified, and suggest the housing welfare from 2000 to 2005. As a result of this research, selected housing welfare indicators were settled as follows: the housing welfare indicators comprise 9 in the department of 'House', 4 in the department of 'Community', and 6 in the department of 'Policy Environment' (19 in total). The housing welfare indicators developed in this research will be used for the comprehensive assessment of the results of housing welfare policies and the establishment of housing policies as a basic material in the future.
The purpose of the study is to establish the concept of residential standard, and at the same time to investigate the area of the minimum residential standard in the countries of the world through the preceding studies. In addition, it also aims at establishing the objective residential standard by comparing the residential standard of Korea with that of foreign countries, examining the problems and finding out the matters to be improved through the comparison of the residential standard in advanced countries with the minimum residential standard of Korea. The standard residential area, derived from the process of examining the minimum residential standard, will be used as the basic material for the calculation of the reasonable area in the surface plan for the study of low-cost housing development. The method of the study is to establish the concept of residential standard and at the same time to find out the problems in the minimum residential standard of Korea and improvement methods through the comparison of the residential standards in other countries. As the result of the studies focused on the area among the residential standards, it is found out that the Korea's residential area per capita is established as the least in comparison with that of advanced countries. The real area decided depending on the size of social space suitable for living can play a role in improving the degree of satisfaction in the person's living in the residential area. Therefore, it is urgently necessary to make a depth study on the surface area of the minimum residential standard, and it is also required to propose the residential standard and directions for the improvement of the qualitative level rather the quantitative expansion of residential structures.
Due to difficulty of marriage with women in Korea, unmarried men in countryside tend to have an international marriage. A ratio of international marriage was 3.7% in 2004, but increased by over 10% in 2004 due to the change of population composition in countryside. Without social or national preparation on a multicultural family and an increase of elder who lives alone made problems such as changes of population composition in countryside, a high rate of divorce due to differences on culture and society. These problems are becoming critical problems in countryside, not only for a family. This Study has a purpose as below, Firstly, this study will examine living place of elder who live alone and multicultural families. Secondly, characteristics of using each space will be analyzed and then surveyed efficiency and satisfaction. The result of survey will be provided to space planning for improvement of living standard. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: The characteristics of the surveyed households, the elderly ratio of 70 to 80 units high, and when the elderly become less than 10 years, 51.6%, 77.4% of women were overwhelmingly high. The characteristics of multicultural families in the in the middle or early 2000s when immigration is concentrated and national origin in Vietnam was 66.7 %. Housing characteristics of households with elderly housing type, the ratio improved to 61.3% is Majority. Type strain and 29% in traditional houses, traditional housing type is 9.7%. And house of multicultural families improve housing type is 87.5% Majority. The main space of the housing for the elderly, most are usually satisfied. But generally low level of self-determined housing survey confers real. These results have lived a long time because of space adaptation and can be viewed as attachment.
