  • Living room in modern housing accepts social behavior of modem family realized diversified life and the core of the housing space. So living room in the housing space is composed of many various components, handled very carefully in a color plan. This study is purposed on proposing basic data for color planing of the living room in an apartment, especially a sold housing accommodating the social change. As a result of understanding the color image of a apartment living room for the last 5 years, phenomenon of using natural color which makes people feel comfortable is common with durability. Also the image of space composition which usually called in modern, classic and dandy is appeared with various coloration easily in a medium-large or large living room, So these show the various demand of high-level or medium-level inhabitants. For an actual proof, basic data for research about the color image of a apartment living room in korea have to be accumulated constantly. After that the research which can take concrete shape and visualize the change of the color image of korean apartment living room will revitalize.

  • Purpose: Generally, rural housing in Korea have had target of people who are in good physical health rather than the disabled. Therefore, it is difficult to offer high quality residential environment for the elderly and the disabled. The purpose of this study is to propose the ways to promote ease and safety in the rural housing. Methods: This study evaluates the accidents, improvement factors, satisfactions, complaints by space of 153 rural housing in Taebaeksi. Results: This study divides the a rural house into 7 sectors : a passage to entrance, an entrance hall, a livingroom, a bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen, and utility room. this study propose the following plan that rural housing to be barrier free space. First, in passage to entrance of the house, people with disabilities should not experience difficulties in walking, so installing ramps to remove the stepped slope grade without slip so that the floor finish should be. Second, entrance hall need more space to change and keep wheelchair. Third, switches and handle should be installed various height and form depend on the behavior of residents. Forth, install a drain to make no changes in level of bathroom. Implications: This research could be the basic data to renovate the rural housing.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between outdoor play environments and child's play behaviors. The data were collected by this study included field measurement survey, and non-participatory observation from 8 child care centers in Seoul. The field measurement survey were conducted from February 20 to March 20, 2005, whereas non-participatory behavior observation were conducted from June 15 to July 10, 2005. The major results showed the following. 1) Most of child care centers were too small, did not use the adequate surfacing to play various activities, and were made of play equipment setting. 2) Child's play behavior focused on functional play activity and construction play activity. 3) The relationship between outdoor play environments and child's play behaviors showed that small outside play environment with monotonous construction of play setting produced functional play behaviors on children. However, in some cases, despite the small and monotonous play area, diverse play behaviors were observed. These playgrounds at least differed from others in that they provided the place where multi purpose play was possible. This finding shows that multi purpose play areas can be an alternative in small playground environment.

  • Much energy is used in occupying stage of the Building Life Cycle. Electric charge is one of the various factors that influence on energy use of residents. This study focused on electric charge and searched that whether electric charge affects residents' behavior of operating air conditioner and their controlled indoor climate. We surveyed three groups for field study ; A group is residents who live in a studio apartment, B group is residents who live in a university dormitory and C group is residents who live in a apartment with their family. The A and C groups are charged for electric as energy consumption they used. And the B group is students who live in a university dormitory and they are not charged for their energy consumption. We measured the time to use the air conditioner for cooling, on/off temperature of air conditioner, and room air temperature for these three groups. The result shows that consideration for electric charge affects to the residents' behavior of operating air conditioner and their acceptable thermal range.

  • We conducted this research to examine how well regional housing prices are suited to use as an alternative to conventional census-based regional deprivation indices in health and medical geography studies. To examine the relative performance of mean regional housing prices compared to conventional census-based regional deprivation indices, we compared several multilevel logistic regression models, where the first level was individuals and the second was health districts in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA) in Korea, for the sake of adjusting the regional clustering tendency of unknown factors. In these models, we predicted two dichotomous variables that represented individuals' after-lunch tooth brushing behavior and use of dental floss by individual characteristics and regional indices. Then, we compared the relative predictive performance of the models using the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) and Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC). The results from the estimations showed that mean regional housing prices and census-based deprivation indices were correlated with the two types of dental health behavior in a statistical sense. The results also revealed that the model with mean regional housing prices showed smaller AIC and BIC compared with other models with conventional census-based deprivation indices. These results imply that it is possible for housing prices summarized using aerial units to be used as an alternative to conventional census-based deprivation indices when the census variables employed cannot properly reflect the characteristics of the aerial units.

  • The final purpose of this study is to develop the synthetic and logical analytical tool for analyzing spatial organization of housing. For this purpose, this study made the starting-point by proposing some alternatives to improve one of the quantitative analytical tools of spatial organizations, Space Syntax. These propositions were intended to consider human behavior as well as physical structure in analyzing spatial organization. The propositions were as follow; 1) Classify the private outdoor space in detail, 2) Consider that the spatial organization which visitors cognize can differ from which residents do, and 3) Use distinctive spatial depth according to the states of connection.

  • This study was conducted to assess performances of the developed environmental control systems under various seasons of Korea. In all trials for the environmental control systems, the manure pit ventilation system in the windowless pig-housing with partly slatted floor was used. Consequently, under all seasons of Korea, the complex environmental control systems could comfortably maintain the indoor temperature (14.8~27.2$^{\circ}C$) , concentrations of noxious gases (CO2 gas : 631~1,874ppm, NH3 gas : 0.3~3.2ppm), air velocity (0.11~0.23m/s), air movement, and so on. Therefore, the performances of the complex environmental control systems were evaluated as proper as the intended.
