렌즈절삭용 탄화규소계 공구의 크랙전파 거동 (Crack Path Behavior of SiC Based Tools for Spectacle Lens Cutting)

  • 렌즈 절삭공구의 기계적 특성을 향상시키는 기구에 관한 연구를 하기 위해, 탄화규소와 탄화티타늄을 주재료로 사용되었다. 또한, 소결첨가제로 알루미나와 이트리아를 첨가하였다. 첨가제 조성비는 알루미나와 이트리아비를 1:1로 유지하였다. 이를 $1810^{\circ}C$에서 1시간 일축가압 소결 후 $1860^{\circ}C$에서 3, 6 그리고 12시간 동안 열처리하였다. 열처리 시간이 길어질수록 입자크기는 점점 증가하였다. 미세구조는 주사전자현미경으로 관찰하였으며 이미지프로그램(Image-Pro Plus, Media Cybernetics, Maryland, U.S.A.)으로 상분석 하였다. 파괴기구는 주로 길게 자란 탄화규소 입자에 의한 균열회절에서 일어나고 있음을 알 수 있다. 균열회절기구에 영향을 미친 SiC입자들은 대부분 두께가 $2.3{\mu}m$ 이하였고, 장경비는 2.5 이상이었다. 균열가교도 일부 파괴인성 증진기구에 기여함을 알 수 있다.

  • Membrane electrode assembly (MEA) for polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) are commonly prepared in the research laboratory by spraying, screen-printing and brushing catalyst slurry onto membrane or other support material like carbon paper or polyimide film in a batch style. These hand applications of the catalyst slurry are painstaking process with respect to precision of catalyst loading and reproducibility. It has been generally mentioned that the adoption of continuous process is very helpful to develop the reliable product. In the present work, we report the results of using continuous type coater with doctor-blade to coat catalyst slurry for preparing the MEA catalyst layers In a faster and highly reproducible fashion. We show that while expectedly faster than batch style, the machine coater requires the use of slurry of appropriate composition and a properly selected transfer decal material in order to achieve superior MEA plat lnw loading reproducibility. To make highly viscous catalyst slurry that is imperative for using coater, we use 40wt.% Nafion solution and minimize the content of organic solvent. And the choice of proper high surface area catalyst is important in the viewpoint of making well-dispersed slurry. After catalyst coating onto the support material, we transferred the catalyst layer to both sides of Nafion membrane by hot-pressing In this case, the degree of transfer was Influenced by hot-pressing condition including temperature, pressure, and time. To compare the transferring ability, we compared so many films and detaching papers. And among the support, polyethylene terephthalate(PET) film shows the prominent result.

Al-isopropoxide로부터 AlN 소결체의 입계상 거동 및 열처리 효과 (Grain Boundary Behavior and Heat Treatment Effect of AlN Ceramics Prepared from Al-isopropoxide)

  • Fine AlN powder was synthesized by carbothermal reduction and nitridation of alumimun hydroxide prepared from Al-isopropoxide. AlN ceramics with Y2O3 and CaO were prepared by hot-pressing under the pressure of 30 MPa at 180$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in N2 atmosphere. Grain boundary behavior and purification mechanism of AlN lattice were examined by heat treatment of AlN ceramics at 185$0^{\circ}C$ for 1-6 h in N2 atmosphere. AlN ceramics without sintering additives showed poor sinterability. However, Y2O3-doped and CaO-doped AlN ceramics were fully densified nearly to theoretical density. As the heat treatment time increased, c-axis lattice parameter increased. This is attributed to the removal of Al2O3 in AlN lattice. This purification effect of AlN attice depended upon the quantity of secondary oxide phase in the inintial stage of heat treatment and the heat treatment time.

Spark plasma sintering에 의한 Ti-6Al-4V 합금분말의 성형성 (Consolidation Behavior of Ti-6Al-4V Powder by Spark Plasma Sintering)

  • Using spark plasma sintering process (SPS), Ti-6Al-4V alloy powders were successfully consolidated without any contamination happened due to reaction between the alloy powders and graphite mold. Variation of microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated as a function of SPS temperature and time. Compared with hot isostatic pressing (HIP), the sintering time and temperature could be lowered to be 10 min. and $900^{\circ}C$, respectively. At the SPS condition, UTS and elongation were about 890 MPa and 24%, respectively. Considering the density of 98.5% and elongation of 24%, further improving the tensile strength would obtain by increasing the SPS pressure.

  • $Cr_2AlC$ compounds were synthesized by hot pressing, and oxidized between 900 and $1200^{\circ}C$ in air for up to 50 hours. They oxidized to a thin $Al_2O_3$ layer containing a small amount of $Cr_2O_3$with the liberation of carbon as CO or $CO_2$ gases. The consumption of Al to form the $Al_2O_3$ layer led to the depletion of Al and enrichment of Cr just below the $Al_2O_3$ layer, resulting in the formation of an underlying $Cr_7C_3$ layer. As the oxidation temperature and time increased, the $Cr_7C_3$ oxide layer and the underlying $Cr_7C_3$ layer thickened. The oxidation resistance of $Cr_2AlC$ was generally good due to the formation of the $Al_2O_3$ barrier layer.

  • In the present study, SiCSi-$Si_3 N_4$-SiC ceramic composites that contained up to 30 wt% of dispersed SiC particles were fabricat-ed cia hot-pressing with an oxynitride glass. The microstructure, the mechanical properties and the cutting performance of resulting ceramic composites were investigated. By fixing the composition as $Si_3 N_4$-20wf%SiC, the effect of sintering time on the microstructure, the mechanical properties and the cutting performance were also investigated. The longer sir-tering time is, the bigger the grain size of SiC is. The fracture toughness(-$K_k$) of the $Si_3 N_4$-SiC ceramic composites increased with the increase of gain size, while the flexural strengthh($\sigma$) decreased. For machining SCM440, the insert with 20wt%r SiC sintered for 8 hours showed the longest tool life while the insert with 20wt% SiC sintered for 12 hours showed the longest tool life for machining gray cast iron.

  • 0.05wt% $SbI_3$를 첨가한 n형 $ Bi_2(Te(_{0.95}Se_{0.05})_3$ 합금분말을 용해/분쇄법으로 제조하여 가압소결 후, 36시간까지의 열처리 시간에 따른 열전특성의 변화 거동을 분석하였다. 열처리 시간이 증가함에 따라 0.05wt% $SbI_3$를 첨가한 n형 $ Bi_2(Te(_{0.95}Se_{0.05})_3$ 가압소결체의 전자 농도가 감소하였다. 0.05wt% $SbI_3$를 첨가한 $Bi_2(Te(_{0.95}Se_{0.05})_3$ 가압소결체는 $2.1{\times}10^{-3}/K$의 성능지수를 나타내었으며 $500^{\circ}C$에서 3시간 열처리 시 $2.35{\times}10^{-3}/K$로 성능지수가 향상되었으나, 12시간 이상 열처리 시에는 전기비저항의 증가에 기인하여 성능지수의 현저한 감소가 발생하였다.

  • Metal matrix composites(MMCs) are increasingly attractive for high technology components such as aerospace applications and transportations due to their high strength, stiffness, and toughness. Many processes for fabricating MMCs have been developed, and relatively simple Foil-Fiber-Foil method is usually employed in solid state consolidation processes. During the consolidation processes at high temperature, densification occurs by the inelastic flow of the matrix materials, and the process is coupled with the conditions of pressure, temperature and volume fraction of fiber and matrix materials. This is particularly important in titanium matrix composites, and thus a generic model based on micro-mechanical approaches enabling the evolution of density over time to be predicted has been developed. The mode developed is then implemented into FEM so that practical process simulation has been carried out. Further the experimental investigation of the consolidation behavior of SiC/Ti-6Al-4V composites using vacuum hot pressing has been performed, and the results obtained are compared with the model predictions.

  • In this study 9.5/65/35 PLZT was selected which has the excellent quadratic electro-optic property and slim-loop. It was fabricated by the methods of vacuum hot-pressing and sintering. The electrode of color filter was evaporated using the interdigital type masks. Hysteresis and transmission characteristics were measured. The coercive field and the nontransmited field were correlative. Aging effect was measured according to time at same temperature. Wavelengths of RGB were chosen 700[nm] for red, 545[nm] for green and 435[nm] for blue by the standard of the Commission Internationale del Eclaiage.

A Study on Silicon Nitride Based Ceramic Cutting Tool Materials

  • The silicon nitride based ceramic cutting tool materials have been fabricated by gas pressure sintering (GPS) or hot pressing (HP). Their mechanical properties were measured and the effect of the fabrication variables on the properties were examined. Also, effect of adding TiN or TiC particulates on the mechanical properties of the silicon nitride ceramics were investigated. Ceramic cutting tools (ISO 120408) were made of the sintered bodies. Cutting performance test were performed on either conventional or NC lathe. The workpieces were grey cast iron, hardened alloy steel (AISI 4140, HRc>60) and Ni-based superalloy (Inconel 718). The results showed that fabrication variables, namely, sintering temperature and time, exerted a strong influence on the microstincture and mechanical properties of the sintered body, which, however, did not make much difference in wear resistance of the tools. High hardness of the tool containing TiC particulates exhibited good cutting performance. Extensive crater wear was observed on both monolithic and TiN-containing silicon nitride tools after cutting the hardened alloy steel. Inconel 718 was extremely difficult to cut by the current cutting tools.
