  • The size and main ingredient of hot particulate generated during the nuclide experiment in hot cells of nuclear facilities were 0.5300 $\mu$m and UO$\_2$. A cyclone filter equipment which consists of a cyclone and Bag/HEPA filter was devised to remove hot particulate generated during the nuclide experiment in hot cells of nuclear facilities. The experimental conditions to maximize the collection efficiency of hot particulate were suggested through experiments done with the cyclone filter equipment. With the large size of simulated particulate, the collection efficiency of the particulate was high. When the size of simulated particulate was more than 5 $\mu$m, the collection efficiency of the particulate was more than $80\%$ and when the size of simulated particulate was less than 1.0 urn, the collection efficiency decreased by less than $70\%$. If the inflow velocity of simulated particulate was increased, the collection efficiency of the particulate was also increased. When the inflow velocity of simulated particulate was more than 12m/sec, the collection efficiency was higher than $70\%$, but after 17 m/sec inflow velocity, no change observed. The collection efficiency of the simulated particulate can be enhanced with the length of vortex finder inside the chamber. With the length of vortex finder, 7.2cm, the observed collection efficiency of the particulate was the maximum. Moreover, when the sub-cone was attached under the cyclone, the collection efficiency of cyclone increased $2\%$. It was found that effect by attachment of sub-cone was not serious.

  • We designed the hot wind tunnel to reproduce the conditions of utility boiler and carried out its performance test, in order to investigate the particulate two-phase flow behaviour, the fouling and heat transfer characteristics to the heat exchanger. The hot wind tunnel introduces the control system to control the temperature in the test section. The particle is injected into the hot gas stream. The fouling probe (cylindrical tube) is positioned normal to the particulate gas-particle two-phase flow and cooled by the air. The temperature of gas and cooling air, and temperature in the fouling probe are measured as a function of time, giving the local and averaged heat transfer and fouling factor. The shape of particulate deposition adhered to the fouling probe is also observed.

  • When PFC(Perfluorocarbonate) decontamination technology is applied to removal of radioactive contaminated particulate adhered at surface during the operation of nuclear research facilities, it is necessary to develop a filtration equipment to reuse of PFC solution due to high price, also to minimize the volume of second wastewater. Contaminated characteristics of hot particulate was investigated and a filtration process was presented to remove suspended radioactive particulate from PFC decontamination wastewater generated on PFC decontamination. The range of size of hot particulate adhered at the surface of research facilities measured by SEM was $0.1{\sim}10{\mu}m$. Hot particulate of more than $2{\mu}m$ in PFC contamination wastewater was removed by first filter and then hot particulate of more than $0.2{\mu}m$ was removed by second filter. Results of filter experiments showed that filtration efficiency of PVDF(Poly vinylidene fluoride), PP(Polypropylene), Ceramic filter was $95{\sim}97\%$. A ceramic filter showed a higher filtration efficiency with a little low permeate volume. Also, a ceramic of inorganic compound could be broken easily on experiment and has a high price but was highly stable at radioactivity in comparison of PVDF and PP of a macromolecule which generate $H_2$ gas in alpha radioactivity environment.

  • Alumina($Al_2O_3$)-Titanium Diboride($TiB_2) particulate composites were fabricated by hot pressing of the powder mixture that was prepared from Self-propagating High Temperature Synthesis (SHS) product and commercial powders. Their propeties were examined in order to find feasibility of using SHS for making the high performance ceramic composite. $TiB_2 particles obtained by grinding the SHS product were finer than the commercial powders. Hot pressed sample containing the SHS products exhibited higher strength than the one prepared from the commercial powders.

  • This paper deal with vehicle fire caused by damage of diesel particulate filter (DPF) on diesel passenger vehicles. In order to reduce particulate matters included exhaust gases, a DPF in the exhaust system were installed diesel vehicles. A DPF was broken by excessively trapped particulate matters, regeneration error with a malfunction of ECU and defect of suction system such as swirl valve. If the DPF was broken, hot exhaust gases was released to the bottom of vehicle and released hot exhaust gases lead to occur the fire through combustible materials around the exhaust system. When a fire happened in the diesel vehicle caused by damage of DPF, silicate inorganic compounds were attached to the exhaust ventilation pipe and muffler. The silicate inorganic compounds were created by DPF combustion consisting of raw material ceramics. If the silicate inorganic compounds attached to the tail pipe in the diesel passenger vehicles, its fire cause will be assumed damage of DPF.

  • PFC(Perfluorocarbon) decontamination process is one of best methods to remove hot particulate adhered on the inner surface of hot cell and surface of equipment in hot cell. It was necessary to develop a filtration equipment to reuse the PFC waste solution generated on PFC decontamination due to the high cost of PFC solution and for minimization of the volume of second waste solution. The filtration equipment was developed to remove hot particulate in PFC waste solution. It was made suitable size and weight in consideration of hot cell gate and crane. And it has wheels for easy movement. Flux of the filtration equipment decreased with particulate concentration increase. It consists of pre-filter($1.4{\mu}m$) and final-filter($0.2{\mu}m$) for protection of the flux decrease along filtration time. It treatment capacity of waste solution is 0.2 L/min.

  • In the present work, hot workability of particulate-reinforced Al6061-20%SiC composite produced by direct hot extrusion technique was studied. Uniaxial hot compression test at various temperatures and strain rates was used and the workability behavior was evaluated from the flow curves and the attendant microstructures. It was shown that the presence of SiC particles in the soft Al6061 matrix deteriorates the hot workability. Bulging of the specimens and flow lines were observed, which indicate the plastic instability during hot working. Microstructure of the composites after hot deformation was found to be heterogeneous, i.e. the reinforcement clusters were observed at the flow lines. The mechanism of deformation was found to be controlled primarily by dynamic recrystallization.

  • The mounting technology of ceramic candle elements utilizing disk spring was tested in a hot bench unit. Seven SiC candle elements were fixed in three groups by 2, 2, and 3 elements per group. And its performance was investigated in a hot gas stream using oil burned-exhaust gas. The experimental results showed that this mounting method gave a good performance enough to be useful for the particulate removal in the integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC). Some operational characteristics of the groupfilter were observed.

  • PFC(Perfluorocarbon) decontamination process is one of best methods to remove hot particulate adhered at inside surface of hot cell and surface of equipment in hot cell. It was necessary to develop a particulate filtration equipment to reuse PFC solution used on PFC decontamination due to its high cost and to minimize the volume of second wastewater. Contamination characteristics of hot particulate were investigated and then a filtration process was presented to remove hot particulate in PFC solution generated through PFC decontamination process. The removal efficiency of PVDF(Poly vinylidene fluoride), PP(Polypropylene), Ceramic(Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ filter showed more than 95$\%$. The removal efficiency of PVDF filter was a little lower than those of other kiters at same pressure(3psi). A ceramic filter showed a higher removal efficiency with other filters, while a little lower flux rate than other filters. Due to inorganic composition, a ceramic filter was highly stable against radio nuclides in comparison with PVDF and PP membrane, which generate H$_{2}$ gas in e-radioactivity atmosphere. Therefore, the adoption of ceramic filter is estimated to be suitable for the real nitration process.
