Syntheses of Thermotropic Liquid-Crystalline Copoly(ester amide)s Containing a Flexible Spacer in the Main Chain and Their Structure Interpretation (Thermotropic copoly(ester amide)의 합성과 구조해석)

  • Syntheses and liquid-Crystallinites of thermotropic copoly (ester amide)s were investigated. The three components melt polycondensation of 4,4'-dicarboxy-$\alpha$, $\omega$-diphenoxyalkane as an A component, 4-4'diacetoxybiphenyl as a B, and p-N-acetoxy-aminobenzoic acid as a C gave the thrmotropic copoly(ester amide)s containing a flexible splacer in the polymer backbone. Diacetylated hydroquinone, methyl hydroquinone, chlorohydroquinone, and phenyl hydroquinone were used as anther B components. A polymer(6BPAB) having 10 mol% of C component and hexamethylene space. showed a typical nematic texture between $245^{\circ}C(T_m)\; and\; more\; than\; 360^{\circ]C(T_i)$. The melting points of the members of this series of polymers increased with decreasing methylene spacer. The polymer structure and mesomorphic nature were examined by solid and solution ^{13}C-NMR4 spectroscopy, cross polarizing microscopy with a hot stage, and X-ray diffactometry.

  • Microstructures and mechanical properties of VIM/VAR/VAR-processed Ni-based Alloy718 ingot were investigated. Vacuum arc remelting(VAR) results in chill grain zone, columnar grain zone, and equi-axed grain zone in the ingot due to the difference in local solidification processes. Different grain structures of the remelting ingot result in the different hot workability for the given cogging conditions. Experimental results on microstructural inhomogeniety and material flow behavior under billet cogging conditions were presented, and their potential effects on the billet cogging process are discussed.

  • Synthesis and liquid-crystallinites of thermotropic polyamides and copolyamides were investigated. Thermotropic polyamides and copolyamides containing a flexible spacer in the backbone were obtained by the two or three components melt polycondensations of 4,4'-dicarboxy-${\alpha}$${\omega}$-diphenoxy alkane as an A components, 4,4'-diacetoamido-3,3' dimethoxybiphenyl as a B, 1,4-diacetoamido-benzene (diacetylated p-phenylenediamine) was used as another amide-group-forming minomer. The content of the amide groups in the thermotropic polyamide and Copolyamide widely varied depending on the structure of the amide-group forming diacetoamido monomers. A polymer (9CLDI) showed a typical nematic texture between 218$^{circle}C$ ($T_m$) and 345$^{circle}C$($T_i$) The melting points of the members of this series of polymers increased with decreasing methylene spacer. The Effect on the Strength According to Carbon Content of Kovar Steel (코바강의 탄소첨가량에 따른 강도에 미치는 영향)

  • Ni alloy steel is able to use during long time because of good acid and corrosion resistance. So, it's research has focused on developing the alternative alloy which is economically feasible. Recently, consumption of Kovar steel is gradually increased in field of the jet engine and the gas turbine because of its low thermal expansive characteristics. The specimens of Kovar steel(29%Ni-17%Co) contain 0.00%C, 0.03%C, 0.06%C, 0.10%C and 0.20%C, respectively. Ingots are manufactured by VIM(vacuum induction melting furnace) and then specimens are made by automatic hot rolling after heat treatment. Strength of Kovar steel according to carbon contents is estimated by hardness, tensile and impact test. Hardness of the 0.20%C specimen is more improved approximately 14.4% than one of base metal. Its strength increases 32.4% of a base metal, and its impact energy is also enhance 11.5%.

Effect of Natural Convection on the Heat Transfer in a Latent Heat Storage System (잠열축열시스템의 축열과정에서 자연대류의 영향에 관한 연구)

  • Heat transfer characteristics of a low temperature latent heat storage system during the heat storage stage was examined for the circular finned tubes using fatty acid which shows the big density difference during melting as phase change materials. The heat storage vessel has the dimension of 530 mm height, 74 mm inside diameter and inner heat transfer tube is 480 mm in height and 13.5 mm outside diameter. Hot water was employed as the heat transfer fluid. During the heat storage stage, it was found that both conduction and natural convection were the major heat transfer mechanism. It was also found that the effect of natural convection on the heat transfer was more significant for the unfinned tube system than that for the finned tube system. The experimentally determined overall heat transfer coefficients were in the range of $50{\sim}250W/m^2K$ and the correlation for natural convection heat transfer as a function of Nusselt and Rayleigh number was proposed.

붉나무열매의 성분연구 제1보 -유기산에 대하여

  • The fruits of Rhus javanica L. distributed widely in Korea were extracted with cold water, the filtered clear liquid was evaporated and from the residue large colorless columns, M.P.about 180.deg., were obtained by recrystallisation from hot water. On being incinerated it left a considerable amount of solid residue consisting of calcium. Its aqueous solution which had a strong acid reaction was acidified with sulfuric acid, the precipitate, CaSO$_{4}$, was filtered off, the filtrate was evaporated and from the residue colorless needles, M.P.98-100.deg., were obtained by treating with alcohol. It was identified to be malic acid by determining the mixed melting points of itself and its p-bromphenacylester with authentic specimens. Thus the original substance was proved to be a kind of Ca-salt of malic acid.

  • Cr3C2 material is characterized by high chemical stability and poor sinterability with low strength [50~150MPa]. In his study, low melting temperature nickel powder was used to improve sinterability as well as strength. In addition, molydenum particles were added to the Ni-bonded Cr3C2 cermet pseudomatrix to increase resistance to fracture. The specimens made by hot-pressing under vacuum and strength was measured by 4-point bending. Indentation cracking and fractographic examination were conducted to study the interaction of the indentation cracks with the reinforcing particles. Toughening mechanisms and failure will be discussed in terms of crack/particle interactions and compared with previous works.

  • [ $SF_6$ ] gas that is used as a protective cover gas for Mg and Mg alloys during melting and casting has extremely high greenhouse effect. CaO added Mg alloys could maintain their original mechanical properties and original abilities such as fluidity and hot tearing susceptibility. The ignition temperature increased with increasing CaO addition under ambient atmosphere and nitrogen atmosphere. The minimum amount of $SF_6$ gas decreased by 0.13 wt%CaO added AZ91D Mg alloy in the sealed condition.

  • For the aluminum material of the thick-thickness more than 100mm Penetration depth Electron beam welding is effectively applicable with a characteristic of high energy intensity. But Al 6061 alloy has high crack sensitivity due to minor alloys, which are silicon, magnesium, copper etc. With a sample block of 135mm thickness EBW test was performed in vertical position. As tensile strength has $210{\sim}220N/mm^2$ with weld area broken. Bend test shows low ductility with fracture of partly specimens. Chemical contents of alloys show no difference between weld and base metal. Defect in middle weld area figures out typical hot crack due to low melting materials. Micro structure of weld area has some difference compare to HAZ and base metal. As a result of EBW test for Al 6061 alloy, it shows that weld defect could be occurred even though establishing of optimum weld parameter condition.

  • Aspheric polymer lens fabrication using isothermal compression molding is presented in this paper. Due to increasing definition of an image sensor, higher precision is required by a lens which can be used as a part of an imageforming optical module. Injection molding is a factory standard method for a polymer optical lens. But achievable precision using injection molding has a formidable limitation due to the machining of complex mold structure and melting and cooling down a polymer melt under high pressure condition during forming process. To overcome the precision requirement and limitation using injection molding method, isothermal compression molding is applied to fabrication of a polymer optical lens. The fabrication condition is determined by numerical simulations of temperature distribution and given material properties. Under the found condition, the lens having a high precision can successfully be reproduced and does not show birefringence which results often in optical degradation.
