In general, the estimation of optimum yield for the radial collector well is determined by the empirical equation or numerical modeling, in which hydraulic conductivity of the aquifer is a main influence factor. Hydraulic conductivities of 164 soil samples collected from boreholes and horizontal wells (average length: about 50 m) installed during well construction in the Anseong stream were drawn in two-dimensional map by the Kriging method and utilized in this study. Hydraulic conductivity analyses by Representative Elementary Count (REC) indicated the average hydraulic conductivity is similar to that of the pumping test when the number of samples reaches about 1,000, which correspond to 1,000 ㎡. Pumping test was also conducted at 1 pumping well and 13 observation wells to estimate hydraulic conductivities at each observation well. REC analysis indicated that the average value of hydraulic conductivity calculated from at least four observation wells is valid as a representative value. The overall result suggested that multiple observation wells or multiple pumping-observation well systems that are located within the range of horizontal wells should be utilized to properly estimate the representative hydraulic conductivity values and the yield of a radial collector well.
Well production by a riverbank filtration facility with multi-radial collector well systems in Jeungsan-ri, Changnyeong gun, Korea was evaluated. In this study, the drawdown at collector wells due to pumping and groundwater inflow rates along the horizontal arms of the collector wells were computed through numerical simulations. Sensitivities of the well production to hydraulic conductivity and well flow coefficient, which represents the resistance to the flow from the aquifer to the horizontal arms, were analyzed. Simulation results showed that, with given proposed pumping rate conditions, the drawdown in the caisson exceeded maximum drawdown constraints in the study site and the adjustment of the pumping rate at each well is needed. The drawdown is affected by the hydraulic conductivity of the main aquifer and the well flow coefficient, which means the profound field investigation of the study site is needed to accurately estimate the efficiency of riverbank filtration through radial collector wells.

To contribute towards more accurate estimation of the virtual inertia coefficient for the horizontal vibration of ships, three dimensional correction factor $J_H$ for the added mass of finitely long elliptic prismatic bars in horizontal vibration in a free surface of an ideal fluid are calculated. In the problem formulation Dr. T. Kumai's quasi-finite length concept[1,11,12] is employed. Now that, in Dr. Kumai's work[1] for the horizontal vibration the mathematical model was a circular cylinder, the principal aim of the authors' work is to investigate the influence of the beam-draft ratio B/T on $J_H$. The numerical results of this work are shown in Fig.3 graphically, from which we may recognize that the influence of B/T on $J_H$ is remarkable as much as that of the length-draft ratio L/T(refer to Fig.1 also). In Fig.3 the curves for B/T=2.00 are of those based on Dr. Kumai's result[1]. On the other hand, the experimental data obtained by Burril et al.[9] for the horizontal vibration of finitely long prismatic bars of various cross-section shapes are compared with the theoretical added mass coefficients defined by combination of the authors' $J_H$ from Fig.3 and two dimensional coefficients $C_H$ obtained by Lewis form approximation for the corresponding sections. They are in reasonable correspondence with each other as shown in Fig.2. Finally, considering that the longitudinal profile of full-form ship's hull is well resembled to that of an elliptic cylinder and that the influences of other factors such as the sectional area coefficient and the shape of section contour itself can be well merged in the two dimensional added mass coefficient, the authors recommend that the data given in Fig.3 may be successfully adopted for the three dimensional correction factor the added mass in the horizontal vibration of hull-form ships.

The purpose of this experiment is to determine the relations between numbers, arrangements and pumping rates of wells. In this experiment, well pipes were vertically set up in an artificial water-bearing sand layer of homogeneous quality. Wells were arranged in different ways and their number was varied in order to observe the variation of pumping rates. Sands were filled in a square tank, $183cm{\times}91.5cm{\times}91.5cm$ so as to secure a water-bearing layer. Water was constantly supplied from a supply tank located at an end of the tank. The number of well pipes was varied from one to four. Well pipes were connected by a horizontal header pipes were connected by a horizontal header pipe located above them and one pump was used. Pumping rates were measured, when they were arranged in longitudinal and lateral directions, They were also arranged in a square and triangle. The main results thus obtained are presented as follows: (1) When well pipes are laid out in a longitudinal line, i. e., in a flow direction, the ratios of pumping rates of one-pipe well and wells 2-, 3- and 4- pipe t, are 1.903, 2.506 and 2.66, respectively. (2) When well pipes are laid out in a lateral line, i.e., in a perpendicular direction to flow, the same ratios as (1) are 1.912, 2.527 and 2.88. (3) When four pipes are laid out in a square and three pipes are laid out in a triangle, pumping rates are deereased, Comparing with the cases when pipes are laid out in a straight line.
This paper describes the method to measure of the vibrational power transmitted from the vibration source to the supporting structure in the horizontal direction. Generally, it is impossible to measure horizontal forces at the coupling points. However. the vibrational Power transmitted in the horizontal direction can be measured by using indirect method that is based on the mechanical impedance and velocities at the coupling points. We proposed the method to estimate the vibrational power when the vibration source and supporting structure cannot be separated. In this paper. the vibrational power transmitted in the horizontal direction is also estimated by using this method. The estimated and measured results of the mobilities at the coupling point and vibrational power in the horizontal direction are compared. It is shown that the estimated results agree well with the measured results. For the supporting structure with multiple coupling points, the other coupling points should be considered for measuring the vibrational power transmitted through one coupling points. We examine the effects of other coupling points and measure the vibrational power without considering the other coupling points.
Ventilation of the marine engine room is very important for the health of the workers as well as the normal operation of machines. To find proper ventilation conditions of this engine room, numerical simulation with standard k-${\epsilon}$ model was carried out. In the present study, the marine engine room is separated to two floors with porus horizontal partition and considered as a closed space with a heat source and forced ventilation ducts. The porosity of horizontal partition is found to be important. For the engine room with 2 supply ports & 2 exhaust ports, the increasing of the porosity of horizontal partition is effective to reduce the recirculation flow zone in the second floor. When the engine room is ventilated with three supply air ports & one exhaust port, the increasing of the porosity of horizontal partition is effective to reduce the recirculating flow zone in the exhaust air area, but there is a possibility of local extreme heating at the lower side of engine near bottom.
Leachate flow behavior due to intermediate cover soil of low hydraulic conductivity and the applicability of pumping method for reducing the leachate level in the landfill are analyzed with the numerical flow model, MODFLOW. Using the hydraulic conductivity and storativity data obtained from the field pumping and slug tests(Jang and Cho, 1999), the hydraulic condition within the landfill is validated. The optimum rate of pumping, the radius of influence, and the efficiency of horizontal drain are analyzed for reducing the leachate level in the landfill. From the results of the analyses, the barrier effect that the buried cover soil of low hydraulic conductivity prevents the vertical movement of leachate flow through the cover soil, which is found from the in-situ geotechnical studies(Jang and Cho, 1999), is identified again. Also, the installation of horizontal drains to the pumping well can increase the pumping rate from 120 ton/day per a well to 300 ton/day. The length of horizontal drain did not influence significantly on the drawdown-time curve of leachate in the landfill.
Let L(M) be the bundle of all linear frames over a smooth manifold M, $u$ an arbitrarily given point of L(M), and ${\nabla}:\mathfrak{X}(M){\times}\mathfrak{X}(M){\rightarrow}\mathfrak{X}(M)$ a linear connection on M. Then the following result is well known: the horizontal subspace at the point $u$ may be written in terms of local coordinates of $u{\in}L(M)$ and Christoel's symbols defined by ${\nabla}$. This result is very fundamental on the study of the theory of connections. In this paper we show that the local expression of the horizontal subspace at the point u does not depend on the choice of a local coordinate system around the point $u{\in}L(M)$, which is rarely seen.

The single layer latticed domes have various behaviors with each geometrical shape and scale, and they are affected by vertical component as well as horizontal component of the dynamic load. And they represent very different earthquake responses under each ground acceleration compared with another structural systems. Generally, all of the members of latticed domes undergo three dimensional deflections if they are subjected to arbitrary one dimensional horizontal load under earthquake motions. And their response characteristics are very different to their shapes, rise/span ratios, and damping mechanisms. In this study the .earthquake response behavior is verified according to the factor of each shape, rise/span ratio, ana damping ratio of latticed domes, which undergo horizontal and vertical earthquake motions by numerical approaches.

Telematics services include automatic location tracking for emergency rescue, which is available for use in case of a car accident due to falling off roadways. This paper presents a simulation study on how far a car will fall before it hits the ground if it drops off of a roadway due to an accident or a natural disaster. The greatest horizontal distance the falling car can travel is presented in this paper, based on the assumption that air resistance as well as the direction and degree of acceleration due to gravity is negligible. This paper also presents the depth of the dent caused by the car sinking into the ground, the time it took for the car to fall free, and the velocity at which it travelled and horizontal distance it traveled. In this paper, the damage done to cars that crash into the ground and the dangers thereof are graphically represented.
